  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Review of Archie #628: Archie Meets KISS #2
« on: January 17, 2012, 04:22:50 PM »
Why I am worried that Gene Simmons is going to logon to this forum and flame me after this?  The guy not only has a long tongue, it’s acidic as well (metaphorically speaking).  That “interview” he did on NPR once is still seared into my brain.  I’m no feminist, in fact I think women are evil, but after listening to Gene give Terri Gross the business, at least I know I’m not a misogynist.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about, count yourself lucky.

Okay, I’ll get to get to it here.  If you bought the first issue of this team-up as a curiosity, you can safely stop there.  If you’re buying this as a gift, as I did, succeeding issues should only be bought out of the goodness of your heart.  If you’re a member of the KISS Army, you’re no doubt logging on to this forum to flame me.  And who can blame you, given that you people actually got a cameo in this?

To be blunt, the art is fairly pedestrian, except for this priceless money shot:

(I admit, I loved this.)

The story, such as it was, is breaking down into incoherency.  This is a product of padded out, “trade-baiting,” and working with celebrities (or would it be licensed characters in this case?).  The jokes fall flat and the action is just hysterical running around.

The best character in this issue is, of course, Salem, Sabrina’s cat.  He’s a dynamic, smart, cat-of-action, and I’m not just saying that because of my furry little animal bias.  Sabrina herself has still got that schoolgirl outfit going for her.  This should be part of her standard look from now on (except for those platform shoes).  Some small props for the redesign of the classic monsters, who are the villains.  It’s just that the story’s too mucked for them to really be worthwhile.

So much for that.  I didn’t buy this for myself, but it was my money, and I’m not feeling good about this purchase.

I listened to this interview after you mentioned this.   To be fair, all I got from Terri Gross is, "I'm going to ask you the most obvious questions possible to mock and belittle you from my position of supposed intellectual self-importance over your silly costume wearing rock band."  The only time when she provided any value was when she asked about his Jewish background.  Although, she started the interview by trying to subtly mock him by pretty much asking, “Did you use make up to hide the fact you’re a Jew?”  She obviously was trying to challenge his masculinity too with all the focus on makeup, fishnet stockings, etc.  It's just odd to me when some people that are supposed to be against bias still utilize it in subtle ways.

Unfortunately, instead of playing it the smart way like I don't know someone from a band like Devo would if the interviewer with the huge ego was trying to belittle them over their outfits or onstage personas, he takes the bait and tries to antagonize her with gender based insults directed at her assumed feminist position, which of course will end up making him look a hundred times worse and like a total caveman.  If he would have stuck with just explaining why she's as much as a joke as he is instead of all that really sexist junk, I would have totally been with him.

As for the Archie Comics issue, I don’t know.  I guess this is for fans from the 70’s or something.  I listen to music much older than I am, but I can’t really relate to KISS at all. It seems to be one of those things you need to have grown up with or something.

Even if the interview was just headgames between the two of them, it was damn uncomfortable to listen to.  I used to listen to the show, Fresh Air, every evening and heard this interview when it was first broadcast.  I looked up her name before I posted this, to see if I got the spelling right, and Gene Simmons came right up with it.  The poor woman, this is only thing she's known for.

I don't feel sorry for her really.  She kind of came off as an elitist snob with an agenda, and Simmons totally pounced on it.  This was supposed to be an interview, but to me it seemed like she was trying to deconstruct him to his face like she was writing a academic journal article with all this focus on makeup, cod pieces, magic, him being a Jew, etc.  It was very thinly veiled.

Don't get me wrong, I think he is a pig.  Not for having a lot of sex or portraying a sexual image, but yeah, I really don't like guys that think of women like that.  However, he's an entertainer with an over the top counter-cultural persona.  He's not a politician.  So of course he's going to stick it to you like that.  This would be like interviewing Eazy E when he was still alive and expecting to have a serious discussion about race issues or something.  It's just arrogant.
