  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Review of Archie & Friends #152
« on: February 18, 2011, 07:08:16 PM »
Spoilers follow.

First off, great cover by Fernando Ruiz.  Really eye-catching and fun.

Tania del Rio is the writer, who also did the manga version.  This issue in the classic Sabrina style, art and story-wise.  There are quite a few nods to current Archie continuity in the story.  Sabrina herself is placed firmly as being from Greendale.  Bill Galvan does the art.  I know I’m in the minority, but it’s just not to my taste.  The Archie gang looks like a bunch of little kids.

The story has a great premise: Jughead is worried that he has lost his mojo for excessive eating.  Still reeling from losing an eating contest to Mary Sue, err... Kevin in Veronica #200, Jughead loses a pie eating contest at the fair.  Luckily, he sees Sabrina in the crowd.  Knowing that she has magic powers (Jughead #200), he tries to get her to cast a spell on him to get his appetite back for the hamburger eating contest later.

Attempting to teach Jug another lesson, Sabrina’s spell causes him to fall in love with something other than food.  Unfortunately for her, Jughead chooses to latch onto her, causing Sabrina to flee.  Jughead wanders around proclaiming his newfound love to the rest of the gang.  Veronica is freaked out.  Given her recent experiences with guys, she must be terribly confused.  Raj and Chuck and Nancy get a little panel-time as well.  Good to see the supporting cast get some love.

Finally, Sabrina offers to go out with Jughead, but only if he wins the hamburger eating contest.  She correctly figures that he’ll go back to his true love (food) with the proper motivation.  Jug wins, goes back to normal, and immediately starts trying to talk his way out of the date.  Sabrina says, “Shhh,” and then gives him some serious sugar.  This was definitely my favorite part.  Jughead, you lucky son of gun, how dare you say, “Blech!” afterward.

Honestly though, this issue really suffers from the pacing.  The story would have read better with about ½ the pages, since too much was filler.  It’s not as bad as Marvel’s “decompressed” crap, but please don’t remind me of it.  Bottom line: I recommend Archie Comics do more Sabrina stories, but I can’t recommend this one.

Thanks for your review, I appreciate you taking the time to write about this issue! It was a lot of fun to draw a Sabrina story, she's one of my favorite characters!

I could tell.  You definitely drew her and Jughead with a lot of personality.

Actually, I might not have written that line if I'd read this new interview with Dan first.  He's obviously proud of his work with Kevin, and I certainly have a great deal of respect for his talent.

That said, come on!  Kevin out-ate Jughead!  He may as well have showed Mr. Scott how to fix the Enterprise's warp drive while he was at it.

"I dinna have the power, Captain!"
"Uh, actually you do, but I'm not fixing it until you get me another sandwich ..."

It can be replied to even years later (I like that aspect of it). It just displays a message asking if you really want to bump up an old thread. Personally, if I can find an old thread talking about whatever I was thinking of posting, I always bump an old thread rather than start a new thread.

Mark's right.  There's a thread that I started way back in 2008 that is still getting replies today!  :D
