  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Review of Betty & Veronica Spectacular #87
« on: February 21, 2009, 06:30:46 PM »
While I'm enthusiastic about this issue, the wind has been knocked out of my
sails by the news of this title's imminent cancellation.  Nonetheless, the review must go on.

Why did I buy this?

The cover!  Fantastique!

What's Good?

Dan Parent's artwork really shines in this larger (than a digest) format, especially with the bold inking and vibrant colors. As to the story, casting the girls as a cross between James Bond and Batman totally works as a good fantasy-style Archie story.  It works because, even with the change of circumstance, everyone is still in character.  Not mention, the story was pretty funny, too. The two-page centerfold was, in a word, "groovy."

Disappointing?

The other half of the comic featured the sort of gag material that really has to be clever in order to be entertaining.  The last issue (#86) managed to carry that off pretty well.  This time, not so much.  However, the artwork still looked really good.

Confusion?

This may be something of a spoiler, so read on your on volition.  What was up with the ending?  What happened with the fight?  Who was the mystery person rescuing Archie?  And most importantly, “Watch for more Adventures of Agents B&V in upcoming issues of Archie comics!”  When?  Where?  Don’t hang me out to dry like this.

Overall?

Buy it, if for no other reason than so that Archie will be motivated to finish the story.

Hi jdh417,
The story will continue in BV Digest #196, out sometime in the summer. We'll reveal who rescues Archie too.

Thanks for the kind words about BV Spectacular.  It's been fun!

Thanks,
Dan

Yes indeed - I must concur.

This title continues to the the "outlier" in the Archie line-up (to use a term-of-the-day).  The unique look, stronger roles for the "girls" and the over-all art direction is different than the other titles (in a complimentary and "good" way).

No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.

Whew!  I'll be looking looking for B&V Digest this summer then.  We're  hoping the "Spectacular" look continues on somewhere.
