  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

To Riverdale and Back Again...Again
« on: March 23, 2010, 01:01:52 PM »
Just saw To Riverdale and Back Again for the first time and really enjoyed it.  Although you can't expect everyone to duplicate the looks of the comic characters, most...especially Archie...were decent enough stand-ins for their four-color selves.  The guy who played Jughead was a darned inspired choice.  Less impressed with Reggie and Mr. Lodge, but that's as may be.

Betty does come thru as the one girl Archie could love, although I think he's still fighting it...heck, we know he is!  And the actress playing Veronica was the hottest choice around.  Still, though Ronnie comes off personality-wise as a good enough version, there's something still missing in Betty.  Spunk.  She'd be a darned good teacher and writer but she's got a truckload of guts and initiative, I think, and I don't see much of that in her version.  But she did break my heart in the library scene with Archie, and the motel room scene was classic screwball comedy.

So yeah, I enjoyed this one.  3 1/2 out of 5 stars.  Make of it what you will.  I'd rather see a series based on this one.  And maybe someday they will.

What's funny is that the actress who played Betty in that movie was Lauren Holly, who has pretty much cemented herself as the biggest star of that group, having appeared in several movies as well as a role on NCIS for a few seasons.

The actor who played Jughead was a man named Sam Whipple.  Sadly, he passed away in 2002.

It's been years since I saw To Riverdale And Back Again, and admittedly, I was too young to fully understand it.  I would like to see it again.

Sam Whipple was also a main actor on the sci-fi series, "7 Days".

I liked the casting of Reggie.

As someone else mentioned, the woman that played Archie's fiance was more like Veronica than the actor that actually played Veronica.

Christopher Rich (Archie) was on "Reba", I believe (though I never watched the series).

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

4/5 stars for me. I guess I'm just a crazed Archie fan. If I remember correctly, they were going to use that movie as "pilot" for a series, but the TV ratings didn't exactly send it over the top.

And you probably already know this, but I got stupid enough to post the whole movie on Youtube. Deleted scenes included. Along with that, I also believe Christopher Rich made a an appearance on Desperate Housewives about one or two years ago.
When it comes to food Archie Comics, I'm an expert.

I can't believe they got Mark Snow to do the music.  The guy behind the X-Files' creepily appropriate atmosphiric sounds did Archie.

I also saw this movie years ago but don't remember much about it. I'll have to rent or buy it sometime soon and watch it again.

That particular style of hip-hop was quite popular at the time. You'd never get something like that on the radio today (today they're more focused on luxurious lifestyles, crude lyrics, etc.)

yes, i was born in 1980. i lived in that era, through the 90s and so on. i'm not saying that i hate rap music. i'm saying... they (jughead and the son) shouldn't rap. but again, i get that in the context that jughead was trying to be 'cool'. i think it was sweet that he was trying to get close with his son.

I know what you mean.  I was born in '81, and was in third grade when the TV movie first aired.  At the time, I thought the Sugar Sugar rap was awesome.  20 years later, it admittedly hasn't aged well.  But, I agree with your stance that it was a sweet moment between Jughead and his kid.
