  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)
    May 21, 2012, 07:23:13 AM
  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

Hey, here's another example I found...this is from '79.

Nowadays $3 couldn't buy you a small popcorn at the movies, let alone seeing a 6-hour cartoon feature!

...How about the idea of a local movie house , on a walk-up part of the street , ( probably ) with just one screen ?
Then again , Riverdale doesn't have fast-food franchises either , just a locally owned soda shop where ( As I have pointed out previously . ) underage kids have tabs !!!!!!!!!!!

I remember a 1999 or early 2000 story (I forget where) where everyone was making a big deal about the "new millennium" (which it wasn't). Reggie insists it's no big deal, and nothing will change. The gang (with Dilton's help) start showing off a bunch of hi-tech stuff.

Reggie was right, though. The others cheated. :P

Also, there was a Cheryl story called (I think) "Kiss of the Century". Cheryl, Betty, and Veronica were each hoping Archie would choose them as his first kiss of the new century (which it wasn't). Archie made some phone calls, and that resulted in this:

"Happy New Year"

...Is that Dilton & Cheryl ? WOO HOO HOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+ Betty &...Kevin??
Oh , and speaking of topical jokes , I , just now , saw a gallery joke relating to the 1970s gas shortage...And I saw before a ( presumably ) early-60s one relating to the " green stamps " craze then !!!!!!!!!!
I suppose there may be a few lesser-known/regional places that still have something like that on an offering ???

Here's another example:

In the age of Photoshop, it's no news to any of us that pictures can lie.  Just think of all the mischief Reggie could get into with digital imaging tools, as opposed to just scissors and tape.
Wait, is Reggie actually holding the "Run Reggie Out Of Town" sign?

I think that photo was just taken at a weird angle. He appears to be standing behind that sign, probably standing on a hill or steps above the person who's actually holding that sign (who isn't visible in the photo).

Upon a closer look, I realized Reggie's arm is in the wrong place to hold the sign to begin with.

It still fails to explain why Reggie is SMILING at a rally to run him out of town, not to mention another guy holding a "Reggie is a Fink" poster with a big grin on his face too. I say it's explained more by the "Rule of Funny", ie. it works for the joke.

Simple. Reggie's smiling because someone's taking a picture and he's in it. Reggie's an egotist and a ham. If he sees a camera pointed in his direction, he's going to smile.

I just found this randomly in the gallery.  Made me LOL.  I don't think this was part of the punch line but it sort of is now for unintended reasons.

Looks like this is an 80's cover, so I'm assuming the "gay 90's" refers to the 1890's.  Honestly, I never heard the 1890's being referred to as the 90's and I was alive, albeit under 10, during the 80's.  Also obviously the connotation of gay here is very defunct.  I think if someone opened a "Gay 90's Ice Cream Shop" today it would get a different reaction.  XD

Edit:  I went to wikipedia to research this, and it says the first soda shos opened up in 1903.  Really, WTF is going on here?  I'm so confused.  O__O

Yeah, I think the connotation used would be the idea that the word gay in this case means happy and carefree.

Of course...with celebs like Ellen DeGeneres and k.d. lang having come out in the 1990's themselves, maybe the term could apply for the 1990s too!
