  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

The 1989/1990 Titles That Failed
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:09:29 PM »
There were tons of titles that were released in the 1989/1990 fiscal year.  To some, 1989 marked a time of change for the Archie Universe, and at least nine new titles emerged that year.

Unfortunately, only two (Jughead's Double Digest and Veronica) survived.  The others either died a quick death (Faculty Funnies) or they stretched out for three or four years before people stopped caring. (Archie 3000!)

I know this has been discussed in the "forgotten title" thread a bit, but I don't think people mentioned which ones they liked the best, if any.

I've given the choices, and I've voted accordingly for my pick (which would be Jughead's Time Police, since I'd always liked those stories).  Which title from 1989/90 would you like to resurrect?

it was hard to pick between Archie 3000 and Jughead's Time Police cause both dealt with futuristic things
and Archie Comics i thought did good in the future area
but i picked Archie 3000

I voted for "Dilton's Strange Science".

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

I've gone on record as saying I enjoyed Jughead's Time Police in other threads... so I'll do it here too.  :)

Both New Archies/Archie 3000 never did much for me.

I'm reading Dilton's Strange Science tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll see how those are.

I have Faculty Funnies, and a few of Archie's RC racers but haven't read them yet. I fail to see any market potential or lasting power with either of these titles, but that's just me. YMMV, of course...

I chose Time Police, but I applaud Archie for trying different takes on their characters. Jughead's Diner was good in that it introduced some wacky characters. RC Racers seemed like it was trying to promote the cars so that was weird. Strange Science and Faculty Funnies was good because it gave the other characters a chance to headline a story. Archie 3000 had Dan Parent on it and I'm not too keen on him and New Archies just tried too hard to be hip.

I think I'd like to add that Archie's R/C Racers showed the most potential, and the first three issues were really good.  But, then in issue #4, states were skipped, and the plots became WAY too outlandish...even for Archie standards.

To be honest, the series started really strong...but the way it ended was a HUGE disappointment.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about any of those titles to really have an opinion. I have seen reprints of Archie 3000, Jughead's Diner and Jughead's Time Police (not sure where I saw the Jughead's Diner reprint; the other two were in double digests within the past year), and vaguely remember the New Archies TV show (I still have a couple of videos of the show that my parents bought for me back when the show was popular).

Jugheads Diner was the worst of the bunch.  I clearly remember all of them.  I remember loving Diltons Strange Science... so I chose that one. :D

Archie 3000 was fun to write for!  Wish I could have written more stories for it, but I suppose there's nothing stopping me from writing futuristic stories now.... ::)

I didn't even know you were a member here Kathleen :)

I don't think any of us did. She posted twice last year but gave only her first name. This is a pleasant surprise. :)

Kathleen, I know this is a bit earlier than the titles that we're discussing in this thread, but I want to tell you how much that I love "Betty's Diary". It's different than the typical Archie titles. Is there any chance that maybe there could be a mini-revival of it in the form of 1 new Betty's Diary story in each issue of "Betty"?

I personally would like to see more "Betty Cooper Super Sluther" stories, although I don't think that's ever been its own title.

Tuxedo Mark, glad to hear you enjoyed the Betty's Diary book.  It was one of my faves to write for, and I miss it.

Victor Gorelick does accept the occational Betty's Diary story for the Betty book, as long as I don't do too many of them.  Right now there are no plans to revive it in its own title or include it in the Betty book on a regular basis.

I liked the few issues of Archie 3000 that I read.  I think I have all the issues from all those odd titles.  I need to take some time and read them.  I bought most of them from an ebay seller about 5 or 6 years ago but I have them stored away.
