  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)
    May 21, 2012, 07:23:13 AM
  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

Fernando Ruiz has this thing he does where he makes all the character a bit short making them to look like they're in their freshman year or even in middle school, but back when he first started he never did that, he started doing that just recently.

One thing that really bothers me about Dan Parent's artwork is when the girls are shown in profile in a "straw-sucking" pose (even if they aren't sucking on a straw). Their faces become weird, and they remind me of...seals or walruses or something.

Examples:

Cheryl in Betty and Veronica Digest #180, "Love Is Nasty, Part 1", page 4, panel 3.

Veronica in Betty and Veronica Double Digest #157, "The Tour", page 6, panel 2.

Cheryl in Betty & Veronica Double Digest #163, "And the Winner is,..." pt. 2 page 3 panel 4.

On the cover, the girls are drawn with an upper lip, but, throughout the story, there's no line there denoting the part between their lip and nose so, it's left to the colorist to fill in. In one panel, it's not drawn in (it's not drawn in throughout the comic), and it's not colored in either. This happens quite a bit, actually. This is most noticeable in the panel where Cheryl first meets Brandon and says, "My, don't you look handsome!"

Hmmm... So many great artists....

I love Harry Lucey's work! I think he did an amazing job with all the characters, but especially with Archie.

Sam Schwartz is another amazing artist! His Jughead is awesome, and I like how he handled Ethel (even tho her sterotyped awkward girl back then still makes me cringe at times). I also like his Betty & Veronica a lot!

Dan DeCarlo is a master of course! No one can touch his Josie!

Love Fernando Ruiz's art! He does an awesome Reggie and Moose! Dan Parent's work is amazing! I love the stories he does in B&V Spectacular a lot! Bill Galvin is good, but still a little new. I look forward to more stories from him.

Two signatures I've seen on 1950's Archie's Rival Reggie comics are Vigoda and Frese. I like all the art in these 1950's issues!

Cheryl in Betty & Veronica Double Digest #163, "And the Winner is,..." pt. 2 page 3 panel 4.

It's Part 3.

Wow, good catch, Aya. Yeah, that's particularly weird. It looks more like her tongue than her (detached) upper lip.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

Foreword: When I name the artists, I'm talking about when they were in their prime.  For example, you know how Stan Goldberg looked some much different in the 70s then he does now?

Also, I'll list them from greatest to least, but still in my "Favorite" catagory.

Okay....

Archie: Harry Lucey, Stan Goldberg, Fernando Ruiz
Jughead: Samm Schwartz, Rex Lindsey, Stan Goldberg, Fernando Ruiz
Betty: Dan DeCarlo, Stan Goldberg
Veronica: Dan DeCarlo, Stan Goldberg
Reggie: Stan Goldberg, Rex Lindsey
Moose: Rex Lindsey, Samm Schwartz
Midge: Rex Lindsey, Samm Schwartz
Dilton: Rex Lindsey, Samm Schwartz
Chuck: Rex Lindsey
Nancy: Dan DeCarlo
Ethel: Samm Schwartz
Archie as Pureheart the Powerful: Bob White
Archie as The Man from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E.: (I forget who drew it.....was it Bob White?)
Josie and everyone else in her universe: Dan DeCarlo, Stan Goldberg
Sabrina and everyone else in her universe: Stan Goldberg
Bingo Wilkin and everyone else in his universe: Stan Goldberg
Hot Dog: Rex Lindsey
Mr. Weatherbee: Rex Lindsey, Samm Schwartz
Ms. Grundy: Samm Schwartz
Pop Tate: Rex Lindsey, Samm Schwartz

Am I missing anyone?

Archie- Stan Goldberg
Jughead- Samm Schwartz
Betty- Dan DeCarlo
Veronica- Dan DeCarlo or Dan Parent (long as it's not a profile shot)
Reggie- Al Hartley (really captured Reggie's vulgar sneer)
Josie & The Pussycats- Dan DeCarlo (really, any attractive female character looks best with Dan)
Cheryl Blossom- Dan DeCarlo (see above- his covers for her books were AMAZING)
Big Ethel- Al Hartley (truly giant, gawky and weird-looking)
Mr. Weatherbee- Al Hartley (just TITANICALLY fat)
Miss Grundy- Al Hartley
