  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)
    May 21, 2012, 07:23:13 AM
  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

Look at THAT! Archie No.1, and there is the yellow sky! Boy! Archie was downright UGLY back in those days!

Re:  Veronica in the Sundress, I always loved that era.  She and Betty were supposed to be 16-17 years old but Al Fagaly made them look quite a number of years ahead of poor old Archie.
I couldn't agree more, Veronic and Betty looked like movie stars next to Archie and Jug. The early Jughead looked a bit like a gangster or a punched out boxer than a teenager.
I have always thought that the early Veronica, even with the dark hair, looks quite a bit like blond bombshell Veronica Lake. Even moreso than Betty who was a Blond. I suppoose this was no accident considering the era and in which Archie and the gang came about...and of course Archie was inspired by Mickey Rooney's movie character Andy Hardy. Batman was inspired by ZOrro...nothing new under the sun.

thats a fact!

As long as we're off the track a little here's an ad from Archie #227 July 1973

Since you have a nice scan of my Archie #1 to compare, here's the actual poster (a little to big for my scanner) but check it out, they had Dan DeCarlo clean up Archies face a bit! I never noticed until Dexter Taylor pointed it out to me!

The ad does say carefully say replica, not exact replica

Interesting! They definitely altered Archie's face to make him a bit more attractive. Isn't  it interesting how different the coloring on the original and the poster are? Essentially the same colors have been used on both, but there is something so appealing about the old-style hand-cut color seperations on the ORIGINAL cover. Look at the subtle shadows on parts of Archie's pants. The highlight of a lighter blue on Jug's shoulder. Similar effects on Betty and Veronica's clothing as well. There is an odd RICHNESS to it, slightly out of register and all, that modern comicbook coloring just does not share. It just says CLASSIC comic book art!

I think it's done to make things stand out more. Imagine how different things would look if the sky was white or light blue. It wouldn't stand out as much.

Well, it's also a bright happy color and that is what the Archie line was, and still is, all about. And you probably wouldn't find a lot of other comicbooks out there using tellow as a sky  color.

Or, Riverdale is near Gary indiana, & there's a lot of air pollution.

In breaking news from CNN - the Riverdale sulpher factory has experienced what offials refer to as a level 7 catatrophic event.  Residents are warned to stay outdoors and wear as little clothing as possible in order to acclimatize to the affects.
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.
