[WANTED] Archie Comics titles from 1980
« on: November 03, 2011, 11:33:17 AM »
I'm working on a project to have all the Archie Comics titles published in the year 1980 bound into hardcover volumes.

I just started collecting the books, so I still need a whole bunch of them. As far as condition goes, I'm looking for books in in shape VF or better. A little chipping on the outside edges is ok since they'll get trimmed in the binding process.

Oh, and if you're interested in the notion of having comics bound into books, Google Herring & Robinson Bookbinders (among others).

Just wondering, why 1980?

Why not?

Seriously, I think that's the year that I stopped reading Archie when I was a kid and moved exclusively over to superhero stuff. Starting there and working backwards, and maybe forwards as well with other projects like these.

1980! What a year it is: the election of Ronald Reagan, the Iran Hostage crisis, the explosive Mt. St. Helens eruption (BOOM!), John Lennon's assassination, Pres. Carter announced the US boycott of the 1980 summer olympics in Moscow, and the US men's ice hockey team scores gold in the winter olympics in Lake Placid, New York. And to say a least I was born that year.

DavidMN, not a bad idea you have to start a 80s Archies' comic collection, one year down and 9 to go.  :)  The resurgent popularity of the Archies is responsible for DIC's saturday morning cartoon "the New Archies" in the late end of the decade.

Personally, I have all the Calvin and Hobbes comics ever in print...starting with the first of 12 books titled "Calvin and Hobbes" from the very first (B&W) in Nov. 1985 to "It's a Wonderful Trip." featured the final comic on Sunday Dec. 31, 1995.

Just for the heck of it...

Here is an extremely rough cover design I did for the proposed first volume.

1980 was the year before I was born...

Though because of that, I've been looking for all Archie comics with a publication date of May 1981.  I know technically they all were released in March, but still...
