  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Author Topic: [WANTED] Betty Digest #1+2-----Are these hard to find? Seems like they would be  (Read 2070 times)

I recently found out Betty had her own digest and there were two issues. Are these really rare and hard to track down? If someone has some extra they're willing to sell, I'd like those in my collection. It would be pretty cool to have a new title in there. :)

Also, did Veronica ever get a digest to herself?

Put me down for #2 as well.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

Veronica Digest lasted six issues in 1992

Oh cool! Thanks! I'd like to buy those too if anyone has any extra they're willing to sell.

I kind wish those digests were still around. I mean Betty and Veronica Digests do work well, but it would be nice to have the digests cleaned up a bit so 'Betty' comics would be collected in a digest and 'Veronica' ones would be collected in her own. Sometimes the digest stories get repeated so much that I swear I see the same stories in consecutive digests. x_x It would be nice to have the digests cleaned up so I wouldn't be paying for so many repeats. I know there's tons of stories out there I hadn't read yet!

With the Veronica title, the first two were called "Veronica's Passport", and basically just reprinted some of the adventures she had around the world during Veronica 1-18.

I'm lucky to have all the Betty's and Veronica's Digests, but with so few issues, I can see how they would be incredibly hard to find.

I found Betty's Digest #1 at a larger flea market in another county.

I need #2, though.

I didn't think I'd ever heard of a Betty digest, but when I saw that cover I realized actually I do have #2.  (Unfortunately it's currently in storage several states away.)

Does anyone have any idea why this was discontinued?  It seems like it would be much more viable than a Veronica solo digest.  It could include reprints of stories from Betty & Me, Betty's Diary, etc.

Thanks for the picture and the information about the Veronica digests! :)

Since these are hard to find, if ANYONE is considering selling a copy, I will take into account the rarity when discussing a price. I just think it would be really cool to have a Betty or Veronica Digest!

I'd also like to know why it was discontinued too. Like you said, there was much more material that could of been put into this digest as opposed to Veronica's. Especially since some Betty stories were like the super sluether ones (or those weird Betty Cooper, Betty Cooper ones I read about on the forums recently. Still curious to read those!). Did the digest just not have enough sales perhaps? =/

Offline Captain Hero

Both titles ended in 1997, which was a year in which a lot of digests were discontinued.  During the 1997/1998 fiscal year, we lost...

Betty's Digest
Veronica's Digest
Archie's Story and Game Digest
Archie Annual Digest
Betty and Veronica Annual Digest
Archie...Archie Andrews...Where Are You Digest
Little Archie Digest

I'm guessing that in 1997, it was a cost-cutting decision by Archie comics.  But, now that I realize it, they cut a LOT of popular books!

Offline Tuxedo Mark

Well, if you look at that list, all of the stories in those titles could easily be reprinted in Betty and Veronica Single/Double Digests and Archie Single/Double Digests. These titles were probably seen as superfluous.

That is true. I haven't gotten around to collecting older titles yet because everything seems to be everywhere and misorganized. So many titles to choose from!

Though I do wish the digests would collect the current single issues being put out right now in consecutive order. It would be nice to have an Archie digest which collected the flat issues of 'Archie' from #1-#20 or whatever number it would end at for the first digest. And keep on going as such.

That would be a great idea.  And on the subject of digests in general,
I really wish they would include writer & artist credits for every reprinted story.  It would only have to be a single line of tiny print.  It's just terrible that lots of modern readers don't know the names of, say, Harry Lucey or Samm Schwartz when they are looking at and enjoying their artwork all the time.

I like to track down writers and artists of my favorite comics, and send them an email of appreciation, and when I talked to Kathleen Webb, she said that the reason they don't print the artists/writers names in the digests on each story is because the company would then have to pay royalties every time the name is printed. =(
