  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

help for a newbie?
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:18:04 AM »
Hi,  I found this page kinda by accident.  I was doing a search on Archie Comics and am trying to figure out how to price my collection.  I collected Archies in the late 80s and early 90s.  I bet I had over 1500 before I quit collecting. I also have several other things that I would think to be rare collectables but dont know how to find out their value?   When I first looked at this page I saw a forum talking about nobody being able to find older Archie comics in decent shape.  I wanted to post on that forum because 80% of my collection is dated before the 70's.....  I have someone interested in buying them but I dont think Im being offered fair price.  Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

If you visit MileHighComics.com and search for the Archie titles, the site will give you a range of prices for each issue. Mile High do seem to use the Overstreet Price Guide as the basis for most of their prices, but as they often run sales I'd expect to pay the listed price less at least 20%. The Overstreet Price Guide is, as it suggests, a price guide, but I wouldn't necessarily trust it for Archie comics as it doesn't always reflect how hard some issues are to find

Please don't go to Milehigh as they grossly overprice their inventory.  You can use this online site for a quick reference but keep in mind that it isn't Overstreet.  http://www.comicspriceguide.com/Default.aspx

If you are serious about selling your collection it will take research, time and effort.  If you truly have .10¢ and .12¢ that are in nice condition as you claim, then invest in an overstreet guide and sell to the buyer when you are done. - http://www.amazon.com/Overstreet-Comic-Book-Price-Guide/dp/1603601201/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291463235&sr=8-1

The other suggestion is to get an overstreet grading guide.  This will allow you to correctly price out the collection - http://www.amazon.com/Overstreet-Comic-Book-Price-Guide/dp/1603601201/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291463235&sr=8-1  These books may also be available in your library.

Then realize that we are in a recession but even if we weren't, very few will to pay full guide when purchasing an entire collection.  The nature of bulk buying implies great discounts.  Good luck.

Thanks alot for the help....  I am being offered around $500 for about 1000 books and I really have some rare items that I think a dyehard collector would wanna see.  I know if I sell the collection I am selling myself short but these books are in amazing condition. I have had them stored in tupperware containers and each in plastic sleeves.  Thanks again!!!

Yep, that price sounds about right.  If you are unhappy with it then take the time an effort to sell them individually.  Take pictures and scans of each one and post them with separate prices.  This all sounds like a lot of work to someone that is looking for a quick payout.  It is alot of work.  If you are looking to sell them and have a buyer, just do it and stop fishing.

In estimating value, it would be very helpful to know what the rare items are as well as a list and pictures of the oldest books in the collection.
