  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)
    May 21, 2012, 07:23:13 AM
  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

I'm new!
« on: March 05, 2009, 05:19:27 PM »
Hi everybody!

I just joined.  I read Archie as a kid (now I'm 35) but currently I'm one of those people who buys the digests at the supermarket a few times a year.   :embarassed:

I can't wait to start exploring the forum!

Do we have any members who used to buy Archie Comics in the 1940s?   ;D

That's actually a pretty funny idea!

Let's think.  If we think of the very youngest Archie readers as being 6 years old (is that fair?).  Then a person buying an Archie comic in 1940 would be at least 76/77 years old.

Sort of spooky to think about how many of my comics were originally bought by people that are now dead.

It's also scary that I keep them in the basement.

It's even scarier that sometimes, late at night, when I am reading my Golden-Age comics in the basement - I hear voices...... "stoooooppppp beeeendinggg the cooovvverrrrr...." (not that I would!)
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.

Welcome to the site, RPD! I sent some applause your way as well. :) You're definitely in good company, and I can completely relate! I'm only a few years younger than you are, and did the same thing (started picking up digests at the grocery store) 'til I started missing certain digests and finally just decided to get a subscription.

Thanks Ronnie, AyaBlue, Brunette and Oldiesmann!  I appreciate the warm welcome.

Happy belated birthday, Brunette!  You're not too much ahead of me!  :)

AyaBlue - Getting them at the grocery store definitely isn't good enough!  I go to the grocery store pretty rarely sometimes, being a bachelor and all, and it would be easy for me to miss an issue.  A subscription sounds like a great idea!

RPD - Sometimes, I'll even get a comic that doesn't show up in the store 'til a few weeks later! The only complaint would be that there's the risk of rough-handling from a postal worker... but, so far, while I'm not always fond of the condition of my mail, I've been fortunate that the digests have always been pristine. :)

I remember subscribing to several Marvel Comics titles in the early '90s, and man oh man did those things get mangled!  They shipped them with a sheet of cardboard that was way thinner than a normal comic backing board and all the corners would be bent.

I'm not a stickler for mint comics, but that was too much to take!  :)

Well, I haven't really had much issue with things being squished (except by UPS), but, we've got a "communal" mailbox for the neighborhood, with tiny lil' individual mail boxes. My postage problems are usually just water damage related. The Archie digests are well wrapped though, so, no worries there. :)
