  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

My First Archie Experience
« on: November 22, 2011, 04:34:02 AM »
My first Archie experience was way back in 1983 when a friend gave me a very old Archie (which I still have today!).  It was a Christmas issue, with Archie dressed as Santa, pulling Betty and Veronica on a sleigh.  To this day, Archie Christmas stories have ALWAYS been my favourites, as Christmas is my favourite holiday, just as much as it's The Riverdalians :)

Yeah, I like those Christmas stories a lot, too.
I have so many Archies, I've lost count!  :D

Jughead's #1 fan.

I recall being vaguely aware of Archie beforehand, but the first issue I ever read was "Jughead With Archie #100" (where they spend all their time arguing over HOW to celebrate their issue- good ol' Fourth Wall breaking never hurt anybody). What's funny is that the Archie line is so easy to get into that it only took that one Digest to get almost completely up on every character and what was at their heart (something that Marvel and DC could do VERY WELL to realize).

It was the year of 1991, the month was April. I got my first Archie. A digest where Archie is playing a guitar and asks Ron what Mr. Lodge is listening to.

Ron says 'A blank tape.'

Took me a while to figure that out, but then I was not even close to my teen years then. :)

I must have told this story a bunch of times, but my first experience was either '95 or '96 on trick-or-treat night. One nice man was passing out comics instead of candy. He gave me a Jughead issue and the first Archie Comics story I've ever read was called "Pinch Hit Date" where Jughead takes Betty on a date when Archie can't go. I believe the cover depicted Jughead on a swinging ship ride or something.

I never started collecting Archie though until a few years later (where we lived, it was hard to find comics, and I never knew of the Beechcroft Newsstand, a local newsstand in that area, until around 2000). The first one I remember buying was a Pals 'n Gals Double Digest from a Meijer store in Hilliard. This had to have been about late 1998 or so. I bought it mainly because I recognized Jughead. Jughead and Betty are still my favorite characters to this day. From then on I collected the digests and double digests for about 3 years, until we moved to an area where I couldn't get them (with us being poor at the time, I couldn't afford subscriptions either). In the process of moving, I lost at least 95% of the books.

I put the thought of collecting them out of my mind during that time, and started HEAVILY collecting all sorts of anime and manga. I even foolishly passed up buying my friend's old digests at his comic book store for 50 cents a pop (when asked about it recently, he told me he still has those digests but he can't find them because there's a ton of comics in his house).  Fast forward about 7 or 8 years. 2 years ago, I found out that the same Meijer store was still selling the double digests. That led to me collecting them again. Now I'm at about 100 digests out of like 2,200.  :P It would be about 200 if not for losing most of my old ones.

My first book was a Little Archie Digest.  It was something that my mom picked up at the supermarket for me when I was five, and I was just getting into comic books at the time.

25 years later, I'm still a fan.

I read the TMNT comics in the early 90's.  Still probably the best thing Archie Comics has produced I think.  Although, I think Mirage had creative control.
