Title: Archie #9 and Jughead #7 --- return to Classic Archie storytelling
Post by: irishmoxie on June 23, 2016, 01:39:57 PM
Reading these issues back to back, they seem like a bit of return to form for ACP. Both are sort of a soft reboot to me and feature stories that are mostly like "Classic Archie". Especially Archie #9 which was very drama free and lighthearted compared to prior issues. I think they might be a "jumping on point" and might interest fans who have previously eschewed the reboot in favor of Classic Archie. It seems like they are listening to fans and trying to bridge the gap between Classic and reboot. Thoughts?

I tend to agree about Jughead #7, although the fact it is still serialized isn't like classic Archie and I didn't like being left hanging.

I haven't read Archie 9 yet, but I picked it up yesterday and am looking forward to it.  I love Veronica Fish's art.  I might have dropped the book if she hadn't taken over.

I didn't get the feeling Archie #9 was all that different from previous issues. It still seems more mature than classic Archie with everyone talking about their feelings and such, and Jughead was similar when Jughead exploded at Archie for wanting to peek at a girls camp. It's still focused on relationship dramas and there still aren't much in the way of gags or punchlines.
