Title: Cheryl Blossom
Post by: JonInIowaCity on April 08, 2016, 09:26:11 AM
I was thinking. Outside of Sabrina and the Pussycats, we haven't seen a relaunched version of Cheryl Blossom. I think most of the others have shown up by now -- even only in cameo.

What do you think a relaunched version of Cheryl Blossom would be like?

Batton Lash seemed to be off in his own little pocket dimension of the Archie Multiverse, and nothing he devised for the mythos seems to have been taken to heart by any of the other Archie writers and acknowledged or incorporated in any way. "The Missing Chapters" seems to have been the last of his work for Archie, as well. In fact, as far as I can tell, Archie Meets The Punisher, "House of Riverdale" (a.k.a. Archie's Haunted House), and "Freshman Year" and its sequel "The Missing Chapters" seem to comprise the entirety of his work for ACP.

I suspect Lash's main connection with ACP was through a previous editor who is no longer employed by the company.

And she shouldn't be a forgotten character because she is one of the most interesting and exciting characters in the Archie comics world.

Her series is what got me into Archie comics in the first place! I miss the "Cheryl's fashion" pages that came with some of her issues. I'd like to see the Freshman year one as well!

I just like Cheryl Blossom when she is involved in any story. It doesn't matter what Title it comes from. Her character always spices up a story no matter if she is a side piece to the story or a central character.

In your dreams, or perhaps somewhere in Batton Lash's notebooks from 2010. Mr. Lodge was right when he said:

I asked about "Cheryl Blossom: Freshman Year" on Riverdale Podcast, and Jonathan's guess was it was nothing more than a gag to end the story and was never under serious consideration.

Too bad, though, because I would have loved to have read it.

Cheryl was to appear in the original "Freshman Year" and even made it onto an early version of one of the covers before being tossed out. You can see it in my Cheryl Blossom album. It's a photo in Archie's locker of Archie and Cheryl studying (each other).

I think sometimes they throw those kind of teasers out at the end of a story to see whether it generates any letters from the readers. Sales of the current storyline and letter responses would then dictate whether a followup would be considered.
