So what does that leave then, when you fail at... ? Nah. Too easy.

You failed at creating a working link. Just an FYI...

I'm not a big fan of Erica's work on Jughead, but I couldn't do any better and I certainly don't have a career half as cool as she does.  I WISH I had a talent I enjoyed that others were willing to pay for.

Well, somebody must like her artwork, and more importantly, some of those somebodies are comic book editors, so...  :-X
It's kind of hard for me to see it personally, because I know there's so much competition in the comic art field, and I'm seeing tons of talented folks just posting their artwork online on DeviantArt.com or elsewhere, or setting up tables in artists' alleys in conventions, yet those people still don't have work that's been professionally published, even though they seem to have gobs of talent. So I guess it's a combination of factors besides just raw talent. (Plus, her dad is C.J. Henderson, a published writer who basically worked his way up through the semi-professional levels of publishing, and he probably taught her a few tricks about hooking up with publishers.)

But beauty's in the eye of the beholder, as they say. Who can explain Betty Cooper's being smitten with Archie, anyway?  ???

Oh so you decided to say the answer to my trivia question that I PMed you De, that no one got yet. I can't get mad though because only Fernando got it and I doubt anyone else would have. Yeah, Erica's father wrote this.

And Erica and her mother were stuck with a huge medical bill when old C.J. died (she's his only child) so if Fernando can't be doing Jughead I'm glad she is. (Yeah I can guilt with the best of them too.)

It was my understanding that she already has a job, and she basically had to make time to work Jughead into her schedule.

Hospital bills aren't cheap.

Well, I wish her luck. I'm sure she'll find something she's better suited for than Jughead, though.

From the pictures of her in the article she doesn't seemed too upset about failing at life. As a matter of fact she looks pretty happy at her current life. People may not like her art work and especially on Jughead, but I can tell you one thing I couldn't have done even close to what she did and I wouldn't even have gotten a chance because I suck at art.

I don't even think professional psychologists and psychiatrists could definitely rule out clinical depression based on a few photographs where the person appears happy. I think that's what they mean when you hear the expression "appearances can be deceiving". They would probably pay more attention to what the person had to say about herself and how she answered a series of questions. Since most people don't have paparazzi following them around, it would be pretty easy to avoid having your picture taken when you were feeling down and depressed. Easier still to avoid putting the odd picture taken of you when you weren't feeling good about yourself on the internet. You just never know, some people can be really good at faking it and keeping up appearances even while they're struggling with themselves on the inside. Hopefully you'll never know about that.

She could be pulling the wool over everyone eyes but she could also be actually be happy. We don't know. I am just going by what I got to see at quick glance and that was smiling photos. I'm not a Psychologist and will never have the opportunity to ask her questions either, but I also think a person can also hide emotions very well by avoiding answers and giving other false answers. Just saying.

True enough. I guess she might be, or should we pay more attention to the fact that she titled her blog "I fail at life"? She could have titled her page almost anything, but for some reason she chose that. It might just be her idea of humor, but I sort of wonder why she would choose to present herself in a self-depreciating manner to people from the get-go. I hope she's as happy as she appears in photos, but I guess we'll never know, like you say.

I'm pretty sure that her blog title is just an effort at being ironic.

By the way, her latest "Squirrel Girl" issue (#7, which came out Wednesday) is pretty fun. It's a "choose your own adventure"-style comic book issue. :)

I'm not the biggest Erica fan, but of course you're right.  To me, it's obvious.

Well, she's a success (at least currently) as an artist, in terms of having "made it" as professional (apart from any artistic critiques), but that doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the "life" part. I can think of a number of successful (in career terms) artists who nevertheless had other problems with their lives. In fact, it's almost a cliche that people of an artistic temperament don't always get along smoothly in life. None of us here know her at any rate, so who can say what she is or isn't being ironic about.

I think you're reading too much into the name of her blog.

Either way, she's an adult. She has the power to find the right therapist or life coach to help her work through her life failures...

Her 'talent' as an artist can be very much up to debate, but she was all wrong for the Archie style. Her talent is drawing squirrels.  :)

Which is true. She's a good fit for Squirrel Girl.

Could be. In my own defense though, I have to say it's not the kind of thing I'd normally even be pondering if she hadn't thrown it out there. First impressions and all that.

I like her Jughead & Archie & Reggie & Betty. But I can't wait to see Derek Charm do those 2 issues. I never seen his style before. His covers for Jughead are great. I do follow Erica & Derek on Twitter.
