Josie & The Pussycats #8

Just read #8 and I thought it was an amazing issue.  The Pussycats and The Archies go to Tokyo.

I know a lot of y'all haven't been to hot on this series but I've loved it.  It's too bad #9 will be the last one.

At least Audrey Mok is going to the artist on Archie.  I think she'll be a big improvement on Pete Woods.

I would buy a book about The Archies drawn by Audrey Mok. But only if it were well-written and funny.

I am pretty annoyed at the whole Alan/Alexandra thing. They have no chemistry and neither of them had any interest in each other in the previous issues. Also the way Josie treats Alexandra because of it is so petty to me. Josie gave Alan up - now she likes him again because Alexandra is with him?? That stuff drives me insane.

But maybe it's just me. Maybe it's because growing up as a woman all my boy-crazy friends were constantly causing drama within our group over some 14 year old boy who had no interest in being in a long-term relationship (and honestly I can't blame the dudes lol).

Also, I am overly protective of Alexandra as a character, especially this version of her. It's probably not normal lol.

Otherwise, dang the Archie gang looks good drawn by Audrey Mok.

I see what you mean, but since I've been in love with Josie for almost 45 years (I'm 48), I think she can do no wrong!!  Ha ha.

Ha ha ha you have about 17 more Josie loving years on me Vegan, but I gotcha.  ;)   Honestly I love this series, this is the only time I have ever had any sort of disappointment towards it.

Too bad not a lot of other people are reading it. I just saw the final sales numbers for the last issue - less than 6,000 total issues sold.  :'(

DeCarlo Rules

The thing I don't like about Marguerite Bennett's writing is it's a chore to read, not an enjoyment. You can write these comics at a more adult level without quadrupling the word count (the writers get paid by the page, not by the word). It just makes the story a tough slog to get through, when it should be light, breezy, and fun. Trying to cram so much dialogue in, and off-on-a-tangent references by the fistful, does not serve the story. Those would be all right if she knew when to choose her shots, but she just crams them in on every page. The thing the new writers need to learn from the old writers is economy, and pacing -- keep the story moving. Bennett's words try to hog all the attention, when she should be letting the artist do the job of carrying the story from panel to panel.

Apart from that, I felt her reboot characterizations were a little whack. Those aren't really the characters I know.
