  • Vegan Jughead: Good theory.  The other reason is Thomas Pitilli sucks.  I thought most of the stories in that comic were really, really good. I wrote to Archie saying please change the artist.  Of course they didn't answer.

  • DeCarlo Rules: I have a theory about why the Riverdale comic didn't sell well, despite the obvious success of the show, and why it doesn't seem to have improved the sales of ARCHIE, either. Why buy a cow when you can get the milk for free? I can only think of a few rare exceptions where the success of a TV series or movie increased comic sales in any significant way (THE WALKING DEAD). Mostly people don't seem to want to go out of their way or make any effort to be entertained, they just want it to be right there and available.

Jughead: The Hunger
« on: January 21, 2018, 11:32:19 am »
I just read issue 2 of Jughead: The Hunger (3 if you count the "one shot").

This is a really good book and since Roberto isn't working on it, it's actually being published.

The Kennedys artwork is really good and for some reason Joe Eisma did the second half of this issue and his art is fine for this story too.

I actually thought the one shot wasn't that great but took a chance on the regular series and it's much improved over the one shot.

Good story and just enough humor.

I have no idea how it's selling but it's been a pleasant surprise.

Well, I couldn't find a copy of the one-shot, but unless they actually SHOW Jughead transforming into a werewolf, I'm gonna say he's not (despite whatever the covers show you); it didn't happen ONCE in issues #1 or 2.

Comixology has it on digital, if you prefer it....

Have to admit I only read it because I was able to easily borrow issues #1 & 2. I read them more out of curiosity than any real interest. It sure seems like they've telegraphed the fact that Jughead is NOT, in actuality, the werewolf in this series. I've never particularly cared for Frank Tieri's writing on any of the Marvel titles he's worked on over the past couple of decades, but VeganJughead got me interested enough to take a gander at how the Kennedy brothers handled a horror title. The results are serviceable enough, but by no means outstanding by comparison to any other artists working in the adventure/horror comics style. Especially when I think about how polished their cartooning has become over the last few years working in the traditional Archie house style.
