WORLD OF ARCHIE JUMBO COMICS DIGEST #60

Take a trip to the Middle Ages with Archie! A snooze on the beach turns into an adventure in history. As it turns out, being a teenager wasn't that much different centuries ago! Well... minus the fact that a sports competition featured horses... and swords... and was definitely a lot more dangerous! Get ready to get Medieval with Archie and the gang in "A Knight to Remember," the entertaining lead story to this JUMBO-sized comics digest!

Script: George Gladir
Art:  Jeff Shultz
Cover: Fernando Ruiz, Bob Smith, Rosario "Tito" Peña
Ship Date: 6/8
On Sale Date: 6/22
256-page, full color comic
$6.99 U.S.

AND it's not a "new" lead story, it's an "entertaining" lead story. Scripted by a writer who is no longer among us, and drawn by an artist whose last new work for ACP appeared more than 6 months ago. GCD lists at least a couple of stories by Gladir titled "A Knight To Remember"... I wonder which one this is?

Of course, that full-page ad still appearing in the digests does say "NOW featuring NEW stories in every Comics Double Digest!" ...so I guess, technically, a Jumbo or Annual digest isn't a Double Digest... !  >:(

OK... so now we're down from 240 pages of new stories 'In The Traditional Archie Style' to 235 pages per year (so far) ...

There better be special sections in there for LIFE WITH ARCHIE, ARCHIE 1, and FROM THE VAULT.  :tickedoff:

My understanding, as of the last time I was at Archie which was a couple of months ago, was that the plan going forward would be that there would be ONE new digest a week and that digest would contain ONE new FIVE page story. (No more of those luxurious six-pagers, Folks!) These stories will ALL be written by Dan Parent. You might see an occasional story written or drawn by someone else, but this might just be an old "inventory" story.

Keep in mind that at the end of last year, a number of digests were put together but at the last minute... for "reasons"... they were pulled and never saw the light of day. Those new stories intended for those books, since they were technically never used, are being filtered into the new digests now. This is why you might still see a "new" story by me from time to time even though I haven't done anything for Archie in months now.

As for the story in this book, I couldn't tell you if it really is new or not.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels like this, but I hate Archie 1 and Archie 3000. I'd prefer modern Archie, you know, mostly our time...? :) Dinos and flying cars just ain't my gig, you know...? :)

Hey, it's only 12 pages, SAGG. If I can put up with that much Little Archie in FIVE different digests, you can certainly sacrifice the 12 pages in a single digest. (To say nothing of when my regular Sabrina reprints get replaced by -UGH!- "The Animated Series"...  >:( )

But more to the point here, how do you feel about not having a NEW story in the digest?

Deb

It's a shame, but understandable, since Archie is a small company that is probably really stretching their budgets pretty thin between the reboot books and the Riverdale pilot.  At least we'll get to see the stories that were shelved for whatever reaaon, but it still isn't a good thing for any of the classic Archie artists.  Or it could be a blessing in disguise, giving them a chance to do something new for a change, and not have to worry about whether ACP is going to be there or not from day to day.
The thing I wonder is if they are phasing out the 1000 page books and Giant Digests, as they just seem to pile up at our local Barnes and Noble, and I'm sure they'd rather focus on trades for the new Riverdale books now that the first one has released.

Okay, this is tricky. I WANT a new story in the digests, but I don't HAVE to have one in EVERY digest. I can stomach the classics easily in ALL the digests. As for Little Archie, it depends on the artist. Bolling? yes. Taylor? Eh, hit or miss here and there.... ;)

feel like if they were to go more digital they'd have better luck.  Plus, less cost per page.  Who knows... 512 page digest anyone?!

I preordered it, are you going list the other comics that coming out?
