Title: Makeout Locations in the Comics?
Post by: Tytalus on September 29, 2017, 03:01:52 PM
Hi everone,
I'm writing a Riverdale fanfiction and am looking for some iconic locations for characters to sneak off to and make out. Whether the old comics or the current generation I don't mind. I'd love to know if there are there any?
Thanks. :)

Very few, actually. Archie Comics characters rarely attempt to "make out". They kiss (with great enthusiasm, I might add) accompanied by orbiting hearts around their heads, or heart-shaped irises in their eyes. A particularly enthusiastic kiss might be accompanied by a sound effect like *SMERP!!* Most of these kisses take place spontaneously, rather than surreptitiously and sneakily, or in some private secluded spot. The most common semi-private place that an extended kissing session might take place is on the couch in the family living room, after the parents have gone to bed or are out for the evening (it helps that most of the characters have no siblings living at home with them).

Thank you for the information. Too bad here are no locations but I can just make up my own.😎

...You know, this reminds me of a story from some years ago, IIRC in Betty and Veronica Spectacular...that showed the Coopers leaving either Archie and Betty alone in the house or alone as they went to bed - But the story showed the gang immediately showing up at the Coopers' door, rather indicating that ACP's theory was that the Coopers (or Andrews) trust thir children, but in practice being really alone in the house never happens for very long! ???
As for Veronics, it appears that the Lodges have live-in servants on-site at all times...But has that ever been absolutely spelled out :o ?

They do get vacations and days off, since that's an occasional plot device in stories. But I think you can take it as given that there's always a domenstic staff at the Lodge Mansion. There was a story I read just recently where Mr. & Mrs. Lodge took an overseas trip with Veronica, and Veronica asked Betty to come over to the mansion and pet-sit her little dog, since she couldn't bear to leave it at a kennel. At first Betty is excited thinking it's going to be like a vacation for her being waited on hand and foot by the Lodge household servants, but she quickly tires of it after they're constantly asking her if she wants or needs this or that, and by the time the Lodges return home, she can't wait to get back to her normal life at the Coopers' house. Then there was another story where she was house-sitting the mansion for some reason, and she felt sorry for the household staff because they just seemed so subservient, so servile, and she winds up thanking them for every little thing they do for her, and eventually she feels sorry for them since it seems like they're constantly working so hard to please, and she winds up giving them all a few days off. When the service staff come back just before the Lodges return and Betty has to go home, they throw a little farewell thank-you party for Betty because they aren't used to being treated so nicely!

Passion Point. It's a makeout location up on a small hill or something, I think. Jughead was once forced by B&V to take a girl up there on a date; the girl logically believed they were there for some intimate time, and when Jughead refused to pucker up, she chased him all around the place.

Wasn't "Passion Point" also a makeout spot on HAPPY DAYS? I admit my memory of the show is a little fuzzy after a few decades, but it immediately seemed to ring a bell. I don't recall ever seeing it in an Archie story, so I guess my memory was from the show.

I think that was Inspiration Point.

You might be right about that. Googling "Inspiration Point" reveals a number of actual so-named places from Santa Barbara, CA to Yosemite National Park, including at least one "Inspiration Point Christian Camp & Retreat Center", which made me chuckle at the thought of Richie Cunningham parking there with a date.

Passion Point must have been a short-lived fling in Archie Comics for me to have missed it.
