Title: Riverdale Episode 4
Post by: chancebond on February 17, 2017, 03:41:27 AM

Synopsis: Jughead discovers an anonymous buyer for the drive-in plans to tear it down and launches a battle to keep it open; Betty's friendship with Archie takes a hit after she uncovers shocking information about Miss Grundy's past. Meanwhile, Veronica confronts her mother about a suspicious meeting between her and a shady Southside Serpent; and after uncovering Betty's diary, Alice seizes the opportunity to destroy Archie's golden-boy image.

Review:  Aside from the anti gun Propaganda, this was a good episode.  The ending surprised me, as I never really thought of Jug as living at the drive in.  He homeless now.  His father is a gang banger.  Wonder what next week will be like!

This episode wasn't as bad as the last one, but it was more boring. I started dozing off and had to play it over again.

Kevin Keller is like a gay marionette. Whoever changed his character should be shot.

I would have been glad two weeks ago for the news about Ms. Grundy, but after what they did to Chuck I'm disgusted they're salvaging every character but him.

It's not anti-gun propaganda for people to react to finding the gun hidden away in a lockbox in the car of a shady person, especially when they and their friends are in the middle of a murder investigation involving a gun.

I actually like how Kevin is being portrayed. I always wished that he had a bad boy boyfriend in the comic books -- a real bad boy boyfriend as opposed to Devon who was usually just surly.

Also, I was excited to see Lochlyn Munro in this episode as Betty's dad. I've had a crush on him since I first saw him in "Dead Man on Campus" in the 90s!

I liked the episode as well,  I believe that the show is settling into a steadier pace now.  This was the first real Jughead episode we have had and they gave him a lot of background.  I enjoyed seeing Skeet Ulrich as Jughead's father, I think that was an interesting casting choice.

I had the show on but wasn't paying attention 'cause I really don't care about it, just wanna see how they are screwing the characters up. Anyway, so did that Grundy kill the real Miss Grundy or what? Or is she really the real Miss Grundy?

She's not the real Grundy, but had assumed her identity.  She's gone now.

Here are my thoughts:

Cheryl's a bitch to Veronica's mom and Veronica, but it turns out that she was right to be suspicious of Hermione.

LOL at Cheryl inviting herself to sit with Veronica at the drive-in. (And Cheryl sucking on that Twizzler / Red Vine was yummy.) I guess, for all of her talk about wanting Veronica to remember her place, she isn't ashamed to be seen hanging out with her, not even on the back of a pick-up truck.

I expected some kind of Cheryl/Veronica scene after Cheryl sent Kevin away for snacks, but nothing happened.

Why, why, WHY did Betty take the gun home with her?! (Fun fact: I wrote a fanfic back in 1999 in which Betty bought a gun and hid it in her dresser drawer, but at least that was somewhat justified - if ill-conceived.)

So Cheryl and Kevin definitely drive. Heck, Cheryl had TWO driving scenes in this episode. I guess the show really is saying they turned 16 over the summer before sophomore year. Did anyone here know any kids in that situation in high school?

So I guess Ms. Grundy is gone. I actually didn't mind the storyline, even though some people found it squicky. Then again, I ship Cybersix/Lori. Anyone remember "Cybersix"?

Jughead's a movie buff. This is consistent with his portrayal on "Archie's Weird Mysteries" - but broader. On that show, he was just into horror movies.

Betty keeps a diary. Does anyone know any teens today that keep handwritten diaries?

I get more of a bad vibe from Kevin than Joaquin. Joaquin seems like a diamond in the rough. I feel nothing for Kevin, as if he is empty inside. Maybe I just don't like his cutesy behavior so much I wonder if there's something bad behind it. There is something amoral about him.

My son is 16 and he has friends with their licenses as sophomores. Like Kevin, they borrow their wheels from their parents.

It's "Riverdale." Of course there's something amoral hidden within Kevin.

I do not get that feeling from Joaquin or any of the other characters, except Betty a little. They market Riverdale as everyone not being what they seem, so the characters who seem evil like Cheryl might turn out not to be and the characters who seem nice like Betty and Kevin might be bad or hollow inside. I also don't like Kevin and Betty now (though I like Kevin in the comics). I may be influenced, but I still get a bad sense from them.

I wonder why they didn't cast someone like the Joaquin actor as Kevin, or just have Joaquin as the main gay character. The show is supposed to be diverse, but even though they changed Kevin's hair color they kept him white.

Well, Jughead said in this episode that it's been only a week since Jason's body was found, so time is moving very slowly on this series. Also, Jason's body was found soon after the school year started.

Also, Jason was shown driving on July 4.

I got my license in senior year.  Then again, I was 16 that year.  I planned on getting it a year earlier, but couldn't due to obligations in my family

My sister was in driving school at age 16, got her license at age 17 (permit at 16) and now has a car of her own. She turns 18 in march

She saved all her work money and brought her boyfriends brothers car that was for sale. She only uses it to go to school, work, and visit her boyfriend.

I enjoyed the episode. I did however think they could have dragged out the whole Miss Grundy thing a little bit more. It kind of was ended abruptly, but most likely we haven't seen the end of Grundy. Still think she had something to do with Jason's death. Lili Reinhart as Betty still amazes me every week. She in my mind is the best on the show. I also really like Cole Sprouse as Jughead. The only actor that has so far disappointed me so far and they haven't been used much is the character that plays Reggie(Ross Butler).

And they let her go that easy? pfft. She should be in jail. Also, did she say she was abused or something like that? I don't believe it. I think she was lying. What an awful character. I hope they don't bring her back.

I think she show up again because she also tutored Jason Blossom. Maybe she had an affair with him too. And maybe the relationship ended badly so she killed Jason Blossom.

I agree they let her off way too easy. She had an affair with an underage kid. I think if Betty wouldn't have said what she said she would have been reported to the authorities by Betty's Mom. I don't think you will get your wish though. She will be back.

Liked this episode way better than last week's. Mainly because it got rid of Grundy, at least for a little bit. And that's good for Archie because now he can associate with the best parts of the show: Betty and Veronica.

And...never thought I would say this, but thank you Alice Cooper. And I do like that the show is at least showing she has valid points: Archie sneaking out, The Lodges ARE criminals.

But yeah, Grundy got off easy. And I did like the end, showing she's probably not all that innocent (looking for another teenage boy in another town)

Mayor Josie's Mom Making Riverdale Great Again!

Riverdale has a gang? Lead by Jughead's dad? And Jughead is homeless. No wonder he's so surly.

I'm glad that it was some drive-thru that got closed down...I thought it was going to be Pop's again. I'm just used to it after all these years.

She very well might be lying. Or at least truth-stretching.  Mrs. Cooper was going to exploit the situation to attack Archie, so Betty jumped in and threatened to go public with freaking and entering Grundy's car and making up the story of the affair in her diary. Her mom is already freaking because of whatever happened to Polly.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Grundy again. Time will tell.

Glad to see Grundy go. The kid actors were acting circles around her. But I think she'll be back too.

They had a drive in story in the early 90's. I think it was in Archie & Friends except in that story they save the drive in.

They showed a picture of Jellybean. I wonder if we will see her again. She looked closer to Jughead's age in the pic and not a baby.

Poor homeless Jughead. I wonder if he will ever date Betty. Maybe there will be a fight between Archie and Jughead over Betty later on.

Veronica and Cheryl continue to rule as characters.

I agree this show is now settling in to itself
When they showed the Real
Miss grundy I totally squealed with joy!
I think the fake ms grundy will end up having an affair with Jason blossom too!
And make she had a history with students and her backstory was a lie that she told Archie!

I like where this is going with jughead I would love to see more of him!

I splurged for the season pass from Amazon.  I figured Archie Comics could use the money.  I am assuming Archie Comics gets money for my purchase.
Once again, I watched with the sound off and the captions on.  This time, there was very little difficulty reading the captions, and the few times there was a problem I could just go back and re-watch.  I'm certainly quite happy to miss any incidental music, I assume there was a fair amount of that.
This was actually quite interesting.  I'm certainly glad "Ms. Grundy" is gone. I saw Jughead's father is in a gang (probably divorced from his mother), another big mistake.  Also Jellybean is too close to Jughead's age here.  Actually at this point in the comics, I don't think she was even born.

Well I saw there's a video of them kissing so it seems there is going to be a romantic plot with those two.
