The Crazy Betty/Villainous Veronica Thread!

Combining three threads that were here before the server purge destroyed everything of value.

As you know, back then, we had a Crazy Betty thread that showed moments on how kaka-cuckoo Betty went, from trying to kill poor Archie, to swinging a pickax at Reggie to going wild by snacking on food after the cancelation of a swim meet she was training for.  And, there was a Best and Worst of Veronica to go with it.  I added a Villainous Veronica thread, but got redirected to the Best and Worst thread.  Now that the server purge wiped everything out, I felt it's time to merge the threads together!

Post any good pics!

The "Betty is Crazy" thread was one of my favorites.

Everyone knew she was a little nuts

This idea sounds awesome but is there any way you could make it about ALL the characters acting bad instead of just Betty and Veronica?

We get that that's meant to be funny in the context of the times when it was published, but if you heard someone saying something like this in real life (unless you knew the person in question to possess a sardonic sense of humor) you'd have to question whether this wasn't a subliminal cry for help, and have the person checked out by a psychiatric professional.

No wonder these days, the girls are toned down.

No, I meant it's all in the context of the delivery. In a CARTOON, it's funny when someone gets bonked on the head with a hammer (or a film with cartoonish sensibilities, like The Three Stooges). If everything else in the story is being treated in a more realistic fashion, as is common in modern comic books, then it's no longer funny, and you're forced to view things more like if they were occurring in the real world, where hitting someone on the head with a hammer gets them sent to the emergency room (if it doesn't kill them outright). That shift in tone is why I largely don't think a rebooted Archie works. If the characters are being drawn more realistically, and the dialogue, situations and relationships are all being treated more seriously, then sticking in a scene where Archie gets flattened like a pancake by a steamroller no longer works. Come to think of it, that's trying to overcompensate, since even classic style Archie rarely went in for that level of cartoon body morphing.

This could be a mean act on Betty's part but it is also very funny.  :2funny:

I still like the frame when Archie is working at an ice cream store and the ice cream catches on fire. That's in the new Riverdale.

Here seems to be a crazy jealous Superteen Betty taking things into her own hands to save Archie from the villain Veronica. Another pretty funny one.

The Superteen stories are some of my favorite Betty stories of all time. I have scans of all but one of them, and I have most of them in reprinted versions too. In BETTY AND ME #4, there's a 13-page epic where she fights Magnet Girl, the "Maid of Mischief". I was looking at that the other day, and noticing that Magnet Girl is a redhead and a mean girl, who schemes to thwart Superteen at every turn. She looks and acts amazingly like Cheryl Blossom, but the Superteen stories were printed in 1965 and 1966, while Cheryl wasn't introduced until BETTY AND VERONICA #320 (1982). Still, we never do see Magnet Girl without her mask or learn her true identity...

Err... it's kind of difficult to explain exactly what's going on in this panel...

Only one?  :( I'm missing 3  :-[ I'll post what I know of in a separate thread (from my same list as the A-1's 〔which I haven't forgotten, but they are way more chaotic and scattered and I haven't had time to put in a presentable form yet〕)

Okay, I admit that I'm just counting the Superteen stories printed in B&V and B&Me where she's the star of the story, so I'm not counting any appearances outside of those titles with The United Three, like in LIFE WITH ARCHIE #50. I'm missing that story, as well as "To the Rescue" from B&Me #5.
