There's actually another image in the same story where it looks like Josie's putting her hand on Melody's thigh. Didn't know Stan G. was such a shipper. ;)

Technically, what that drawing shows is an illusion caused by a lack of depth perception, as it's clear if you look closely at the positioning of Josie's fingers that her hand isn't supposed to be touching Melody, only positioned in front of her from the camera's POV. I know, it's not as fun that way though. Or maybe you can use your imagination and suppose that Josie is reaching for a little pinch. (It doesn't actually look to me like Stan G was trying to slip one by, here.)

There's a well-done fan-made Melody/Alexandra shipping comic story out there on the interwebs, "Of Dumb Dumbs and Pussycats" (mature content). I can say no more.

Yeah the one with thigh is definitely due to depth perception. I just kept staring at the one above thinking what was her hand supposed to be doing?

Thanks for telling me about that story. It was hysterical. It definitely captured Melody's spirit. I'm surprised Gisele didn't draw it. It looked like her style.

Ha, I remember seeing this page years ago and thinking Josie was grabbing a handful as well. :)

I just hope Melody isn't such a dumbbell in the reboot. It's cute but she's too simple. How can she mange playing drums?

There's more to Melody than meets the eye. She's not as one-dimensional as she seems. For one thing, she's got a memory bank full of familiar quotations and aphorisms that she cut-and-pastes into entirely new expressions that sometimes have multiple levels of meaning, and other times are simply absurd (credit goes to Frank Doyle for actually devising these).

Regardless of the fact that she's not just parroting back expressions that she's heard, somehow she's creatively reorganizing those "words of wisdom" in a way that somehow seems to fit the situation, which is often absurd to begin with. It does imply that somehow she's been exposed to a lot of quotations or bits of common wisdom which she's somehow absorbed, though.

As far as her drumming goes, in keeping a beat the rhythm and timing involved is a lot more instinctual than rational. "Book-smart" doesn't help you there. You need to feel the beat and know where it goes, and be able to keep the timing without thinking about it consciously. The rest is physio-spacial orientation as far as where the different drums are located in relation to the position of your arms.

Melody being "ditzy" is, to me, what makes her so endearing. I love her character and I don't think she is too simple... I just hope they don't turn her into a brainiac all of a sudden (I wouldn't be surprised though if they turned her into one, at least on the CW show  ::) ).

The whole illusion thing is funny and at quick glance it certainly looks like Josie is copping a big feel of Melody's booty.

The other thing brought up about taking away Melody being dumb or ditzy shouldn't happen. That is a huge part of who she is. It would be like taking away the pranks from Reggie that he so loves to do against his friends. If Melody wasn't ditzy you might as well just sit her behind her drum kit and have her do nothing.
