Title: Snotgirl #1
Post by: irishmoxie on April 29, 2016, 04:04:09 PM
Kinda excited for this comic. It's by the artist from Scott Pilgrim. Hopefully it's another girlie comic that gives us a break from superheroes and dystopian societies.

There's a preview with a few frames in the latest Image+ and Previews magazine.

I enjoyed Luna the Vampire and Jonesy but looking at the upcoming Previews not a lot of new girlie comics series are coming. Those must have not sold well. :(

I'm finally up to the last Scott Pilgrim book. I love the art. I also loved his book Seconds.

I'm a bit behind here (   :-[   ) as I just read Snotgirl #2, but one thing that really grabbed me was Laura Allred's coloring of the book.  The pages varied from brights to hues of pink, purple, or green, then darks, then back again depending on the characters present or mood that needed conveyed.  Even if you're not reading the title, flip through a copy at your lcs if you have the chance.  Seeing just cover images online don't do the book justice imo.

I'd like to see Bryan Lee O'Malley draw something written by someone else. I don't care all that much for his writing, but I like his artwork. I also liked the artwork in SNOTGIRL (I've forgotten the artist's name at the moment), but again, cared even less for O'Malley's writing than I did on Scott Pilgrim (I liked the movie version better, story and dialogue-wise).

I dunno. THE UNSTOPPABLE WASP seems pretty girly. So does the TP I got this week of ZODIAC STARFORCE Vol 1: BY THE POWER OF ASTRA - but I haven't actually read it yet. Oni Press seems to publish a lot of girly stuff, so look there - BY NIGHT and OVER THE GARDEN WALL are a couple that spring to mind. Maybe I'm not the best arbiter of what is or isn't girly; it's just my subjective impression. Personally, when I see the word spelled "girlie", I think of it as old-school derogatory, like 'girlie magazines' (porn) or "Listen here, girlie!".

...Well, I think of " girly " as like Bettie Page. old-school pin-ups ma...girly shows ". " Girlie ", contrastly, makes me think more of " girl-LIKE/more aimed at ' girls ".

Exactly reversed for me.
