  • DeCarlo Rules: It's crazy that ACP hasn't reprinted those 2 issues as a double-size one-shot. Or the lead story in a TP collection of vampire stories (including "Twilite" and others).
    November 04, 2018, 03:21:35 am
  • irishmoxie: That's crazy about those Betty and Veronica issues being worth so much. They're only about 6 years old. I'm pretty sure I have copies of them.
    November 04, 2018, 01:36:00 am
  • DeCarlo Rules: On a relatated note, the real FIRST Vampironica appeared in Larry Welz' underground comic Cherry Poptart #1 [link]. That can be had right now, CGCed at 9.4, at the Buy-It-Now price of $280 on ebay. Although the book had several subsequent printings, only the first printing ($2 cover price) contains the Vampironica story. Much, much scarcer than B&V #261 & 262, but then far fewer people seem to be aware of its existence. It may not be the same Vampironica as the one that appears in her own comic book from ACP, but then you can easily make the argument that neither is the Vampironica from B&V 261-262.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Yes, I mentioned this a while back somewhere around the time Vampironica #1 was first solicted or shipped. I even mentioned it to Dan Parent and told him if he still had copies he should get them CGC'ed.
    November 03, 2018, 04:33:03 pm
  • rusty: Apparently Betty and Veronica #261 and 262 (1987 series) are popular now due to Vampironica.  Somebody actually purchased a copy of #261 for $299 on ebay recently.

New sig... too much? Still mulling it over, might have been a tweak or two too many in manipulating the bits'n'pieces.
The coloring makes me think of Mr. Goodbar candy. Your mentioning "bits'n'pieces" then makes me think of Sugar Babies.   :)

Hmm... I see what you mean. I was looking for an effect similar to a brightly-colored comic book title logo with an equally-bright contrasting background, but I may have overdone it. That yellow is a little intense. I may experiment with some other colors, but will probably keep the red lettering.

BETTY #38, 39, 43, 45, 48 - Not too much to say about these. I'd read a few of these issues before, including #45 (which has the ultimate Betty/Reggie story, "For One Brief Moment"), and oh, those crazy Bob Bolling 'Betty Cooper, Super Sleuther' stories! I always keep an eye out in these BETTY issues for the Kathleen Webb stories, since I consider her to be the defining writer for Betty (at least since the late 1980s). Doug Crane seems to be the artist most consistently assigned to draw Betty stories. On average, the VERONICA comic is a much stronger series, but that last batch of issues I read was closer to what I've grown to expect from typical issues of BETTY. I'm thinking of ordering a bunch of BETTY'S DIARY issues, as that title seems (based on the few issues I have read so far) to be a much better book on average than BETTY for Betty stories.

I don't recall off the top of my head, but was there a more consistent writer for Betty's Diary?  Those issues do seem to standout when compared to the Betty solo title.

Kathleen Webb. She is pretty consistent with at least one  story (more often 2, sometimes even 3 or 4... but I don't know if some of the latter are really longer stories with shorter chapters) in nearly every issue of Betty's Diary in GCDb that is indexed so far.

Everything's Kevin Keller #1
Kevin Keller #1
Kevin Keller #2
Kevin Keller #2-The Prom Special

Not trying to be too nit-picky here, and if you want to list whatever cover variants you happen to own, that's fine. I'm not sure what that has to do with reading the comics, though. Did you really read Kevin Keller #1 with the "Everything's Kevin" variant cover for 12 minutes, and then pick up Kevin Keller #1 with the regular cover, and read that one for 12 minutes also? (Same applies to KK#2 and the two covers.) Maybe that's not what you meant, but that's what it sounds like when you list them that way. So essentially you'd be reading the same story for 12 minutes twice in a row, unless maybe you just looked at the cover for 12 minutes (doesn't seem likely that that's what you meant).

I mean, I noticed earlier that you'd list whatever variant covers you happened to own, and say you read this one or that one, but I just thought "Well, I guess she just likes reading the same story over multiple times, even if she already read that issue with a different cover a few days or a couple of weeks ago." But now when I just see you listing cover variants of the same issue at the same time, I'm not sure if that's what you're really doing or what.

I don't time the comics but I only see how many I read in a hour. I time my digests.

That's not what I'm asking though. I mean when you list Everthing's Kevin #1 and Kevin Keller #1, those are the same comic book issue with two different covers. So did you read the same interior story twice?

Each Kevin #1 was different stories, one was about meeting Kevin & the other was Kevin & the gang at a parade. Jughead & Kevin stuffed their faces with pies & threw up. And we met Wendy & William in that issue Kevin's childhood friends.

Since you seem determined to dodge the question, just forget it then.

I read my digital copy of Archie #14 which was good but I think the one before it was better. I thought we would see Jason Blossom again but he wasn't in it. But in this issue Veronica has the upperhand & puts Cheryl in her place for now. There's no Betty or Reggie in the issue.
