Archie #20 the main cover looks the best. The Archies One-Shot Jaime Hernandez & Audrey Mok are 2 I will be the two I will be getting, I preorder those on December 23 2016. I preorder Betty & Veronica By Adam Hughes Volume 1 from Amazon back on November 15, 2016. Jen Bartel's cover of Josie & The Pussycats #7 looks the best. Sandy Jarrell's cover of Jughead #15 will be one I'm getting. And of course all the Reggie & Me #5 look great. I'll get those. I have a subscription to Riverdale , I like Francesco Francavilla & Michael Dooney's covers.

When is Betty and Veronica Issue #3 coming out? How can they release a trade without that issue?

All of the new 5-page lead stories in the digest titles have had a monthly theme for the last 3 solicitations. The March digests all feature "storybook" tales, April's digests have an "international" theme, and May's digests all have a musical theme. I wonder what they're thinking with this? I suppose those 5-page themed stories could add up to a single floppy comic if they wanted to reprint them, but that seems really unlikely. I guess maybe they're hoping it will encourage a few people to buy every digest title that month, if they didn't normally get them them all?

They can't. So that TP solicitation will be cancelled unless B&V #3 comes out the month before the TP is due out. They've been doing the same thing right along with solicitations for the Afterlife With Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TP collections, and they've cancelled those solicitations a number of times. Cancelling solicitations is no big deal to ACP. They do it all the time, and think nothing of it. It's just become part of their normal standard operating procedure.

Exactly I'm more interested in getting all the titles those months when I usually don't. Especially international and musical.

Sandy Jarrell's cover of Jughead 15 is amazing.  I love the "Road To Ruin" homage on the Pussycats record.  I wanna shop at Riverdale Records!

Exactly I'm more interested in getting all the titles those months when I usually don't. Especially international and musical.

Even though low sales leading to the cancellation of Archie with #666, and B&V with #278 in 2015 demonstrates that the idea of a floppy comic reprinting the new Dan Parent 5-page lead stories from the digests probably isn't workable, ACP could still possibly offer a series of one-shots (or maybe an ongoing series) as a digital exclusive, collecting those new lead digest stories. Maybe an ongoing DE under the umbrella title of CLASSIC ARCHIE would generate some interest in digital subscriptions (or possibly even garner a few new all-access subscribers for Archie Digital). There are a lot of people who might not want to buy a whole $4.99-$7.99 digest issue just to get the one new 5-page lead story if they didn't care for the selection of reprinted stories that might buy something like that.

They did this for all the 2015 lead stories.

They did this for all the 2015 lead stories.

I remember that, but it was a single collection with all of 2015's new lead stories... and I'm not sure it was entirely clear from the description exactly how that collection differed from other digital exclusive collections. Apparently they didn't do a similar one for 2016.

I was thinking more like a series of digital singles, where they made it clear where the stories were coming from and that there would be a new one every month, and they could offer it for maybe $2 for four 5-page stories. Now that the new lead digest stories have a monthly theme to them, it sort of makes sense.

I can't wait for Reggie & Me #5. I wish there was more than 3 covers. Thomas Pitilli did a beautiful Reggie cover which was put on a Archie cover because th s t was before the Reggie title came about. It was actually his first Reggie he ever did. I wish there was more than 5 issues to this series.I wish we can have a petition saying we need more Reggie & Me issues. Because when I first heard about it I thought it just be a regular comic, hey if Joise & The Pussycats can have a comic why not Reggie?

I am going to buy the Archie one-shot. Since it is a one shot and won't have to play catch up on anything. Also that all I have allocated for comics for the month any way.

May seems to have a really good selection of comics.

Something I've been noticing over the past few years is that the Digest covers never really seem to have jokes anymore. Usually it's just images of the main cast looking extremely cartoony and Barbie-like, frolicking in the snow or the leaves or the water or the flowers. Everyone always has a massive, slightly unsettling smile on their face. The covers used to attract me because of the jokes, and the ones that do still have jokes are always my first pick over these extremely happy ones. Has anyone else noticed this?

Somebody had mentioned the same thing about a year or so ago -- in actuality, I think the last word balloon gag cover was back in October 2016:

(https://www.archiefans.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fd1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net%2Fn_iv%2F600%2F3599051.jpg&hash=e694f0d050a31d38a33518093b2af323b3aae613)

But you're right -- these used to represent the majority of covers, and now they're in the distinct minority. More often than not, when it's a gag it's simply a visual gag, with no verbal commentary by the characters.

I don't know if it's because Dan Parent (now that he's the sole cover artist left) just has a preference to just do iconic character images, but I suspect it's more likely an editorial directive so that ACP can build up a stockpile of infinitely REusable cover images.

I don't know what year this comes from, but Archie's Funhouse only got started a couple of years ago, so this is a pretty modern Digest cover. This is a pretty funny joke. It isn't a crazy original concept, and the art isn't anything that hasn't been seen before. But the joke is funny, the characters are recognizable, and the cover does a job of getting the vibe of the comics across. Compare that to three of the Digest covers from the upcoming May...

They're basically all the same thing; only one has speech and I'm not even sure what the joke is. I know which comic I'd rather buy.

Yes. It's a Dan Parent cover. It was Dan's idea to play matchmaker for Archie & Valerie, and he wrote the original story where the two songwriters gazed deeply into each others' eyes and were bitten by the love bug.

Archie's Funhouse #20 is from July 2016. Jughead & Archie #22 is from October 2016. Both covers were drawn by Fernando Ruiz some time ago. He turned in his final work for ACP over a year ago, so in all likelihood he'd gotten far ahead on covers for these two particular digest titles, and they had been drawn and sitting awaiting publication for some time. This is because as 2015 began, both of those particular titles were being published at the frequency of 10 times per year. Sometime around the Fall of 2015, both of them were reduced in frequency from the former 10 issues per year to only 6 issues per year, which accounts for Fernando's work still appearing on those digest covers long after he'd received his last paying work from ACP.

As I mentioned before, it seems very likely that the digest editor decided that it might be a good idea for covers to become less specific and more generic. If you look carefully at some of the collected 1000 Page and Giant Comics digests, you'll see that those are now mostly all Dan Parent covers as well, recycled from images used on previous covers. If it's a joke cover, it can't be used this way again, because readers will remember the joke and realize that they had seen the same cover before. Worse still, they might not buy it if it looks familiar, thinking that they already own or have read it because of that. They're just trying to save money, and are probably building up a big file of seasonal and themed images that can be recycled (once they have enough of them) over and over for years.

On the left, from November 2016. On the right, from February 2015. Recycled (or re-scooter'ed) after only 20 months.

I would say it was about the best Little Archie comic I ever read. It's more of a thing like where I'm just into all those Franco & Baltazar comics: Itty Bitty Hellboy, Tiny Titans, Super Powers, Super Pets, Aw Yeah!, Action Cat, whatever.

What can I say. LA just never really appealed to me. For whatever reason, I just like Franco & Baltazar. You know who they are, right SAGG? You must have seen or read their stuff, right? So to me, it's not Little Archie that has anything to do with me reading it, it's all Franco & Baltazar.

Hey, you gotta give those guys their due. They sort of built their own little micro-empire from scratch. It's literally "all them", None of those books is some previously-existing title (hey, come to think of it, Little Archie is the first one!)
