  • Tuxedo Mark: I'm beginning to think AWA and CHAoS are cancelled, because Archie Comics sent me Jughead: The Hunger #1 as part of my AWA sub.

  • DeCarlo Rules: @TM - "They" is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Just him. HE's the writer of both AWA and ChAoS. It's HIS story. He only writes an issue when his muse inspires him. Plus he's kinda busy being the showrunner and one of the head writers for RIVERDALE, which ACP probably considers a little more important. And from Sacasa's POV, I know television work must pay a helluvalot better than writing comic books. Especially if they're comic books published by ACP. Could someone else write those horror comics? Sure, if ACP's Chief Creative Officer decided to assign the books to someone else. At that point sales would probably just nosedive anyway, so what's the point? Better to let other writers make up their own horror stories using ACP characters.

  • Tuxedo Mark: Yeah, I saw an article a few days ago about that. Can't they make sure that their initial two horror titles come out before they add two more?

  • Jabroniville:
  • The next issue was a pretty great one- Jughead swears off girls by writing songs about how awful women are, which makes the girls at the shows fall in LOVE with him. Eventually, Betty & Ronnie refuse to play another sexist number, and he's finally consoled by ETHEL of all people (who really got the short end of the stick with the Debbie/Joani arc).
  • November 06, 2017, 03:58:39 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • The way that I figure it is that January was a Time Marshall, and Jughead was a mere Deputy, so he probably didn't have the clearance level or Need To Know status for her to tell his about the multiverse. Although he could presumably have figured it out on his own, based on some of the Time Police missions he was involved in.
  • November 04, 2017, 02:55:23 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • I also just like to personally think about all the things in Jughead's future life that January didn't tell him about, including Sassy Thrasher, Anita Chavita, Trula Twyst, Sadie Cameron, and that one future timeline where he married Midge Klump, plus the fact that his timeline would be rebooted.  ;D
  • November 04, 2017, 02:42:50 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • The funniest part is where Jughead is realizing how many times he tried to give advice to Archie to just PICK A GIRL, and he realizes he never followed his own advice. By the time he makes up his mind to do so, it's too late.
  • November 04, 2017, 02:34:05 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • @Jaboniville - Yes, that is "The Good-Bye Girls!" from JUGHEAD #18, the story where Debbi Dalton dumps Jughead, Joani Jumpp moves to Alaska, and January McAndrews visits Juggie from the 29th Century to console him, but when it dawns on Jughead that she knows exactly what will happen to him in his love life, she realizes she can't tell him, and goes Back to the Future, leaving Jughead even more depressed about his current situation. I think the following issue was the one where he swore off girls again.

  • Jabroniville:
  • Is that story you're talking about the one where Jug gets dumped by both girls, DeCarlo Rules? Because that's a heck of an issue.

  • Today's Lesson: Some girls will dump you so they can date a dozen other guys, some will move to Alaska breaking both your hearts, and some will return to where they came from, which won't actually exist for another 900 years, before spilling the beans about Trula Twyst.

  • WORLD OF ARCHIE CHRISTMAS ANNUAL #73 reprints 2 rarely seen Time Police stories, "How Jughead Lost His Pants Saving the World" and "The Good-Bye Girls" from JUGHEAD (1987) #14 & 18, respectively. The latter story also details the meltdown of Jughead's Love Quadrangle with Joani Jumpp, Debbi Dalton, and January McAndrews.

  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • HCF Archie's Madhouse Returns almost seemed like the same story as the year before... it's not actually, just very similar. Kind of disappointing, as was the same issue of ChAoS that had appeared just a couple of months ago. FCBD is ONLY the 1st week in May every year, and there are many more publishers who participate. Also Halloween ComicFest is about evenly split between full-size and mini-comic giveaways (hard any mini-comics at FCBD any more, in fact, I think they made a new rule against odd-sized giveaways for FCBD). The best book in my opinion was Junji Ito's SHIVER (a done-in-one manga horror story).
