  • BettyReggie: I have Riverdale season #1 but I have to wait till I get new DVD player to watch it.
    August 17, 2017, 09:37:16 PM
  • Tuxedo Mark: Picked up "Riverdale" on DVD. Ripped the first disc to my hard drive and am gonna start reviewing episode 1 tomorrow. :)
    August 17, 2017, 07:51:23 PM
  • Vegan Jughead: Thanks DCR!  That's awesome news.
    August 17, 2017, 06:11:20 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules: You won't have to wait longer than next Wednesday, Vegan. The Best of Josie is on Diamond's confirmed shipping list for next week.
    August 17, 2017, 02:42:59 PM
  • Vegan Jughead: Good point on the pricing.  The new Josie and the Pussycats trade is only $9.99 and I can't wait for it.  I can't imagine they're moving many digests at retail.  The hardcore geeks like us subscribe but I doubt our numbers are large.
    August 17, 2017, 10:01:49 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: @Vegan - That investment capital helped pay for Adam Hughes, and printer's bill, plus they resurrected a few of their old cancelled solicits on trade paperbacks that the work had already been completed on.
    August 17, 2017, 09:45:09 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: I'm going to take a wild guess and say that ARCHIE AND ME DIGEST must contain a new 20-page story. But why wouldn't they advertise that fact? It's baffling trying to guess what they're thinking.
    August 17, 2017, 09:37:32 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: So Double Digests are 160 pages for $5.99, but ARCHIE AND ME DIGEST is 128 pages for $6.99? Yet somehow a 416-page trade paperback is priced at $9.99?? Or $12.99 for 104 pages of Adam Hughes reprints. I guess they must be using the old "dart-board pricing" method!
    August 17, 2017, 09:28:34 AM
  • Vegan Jughead: Archie November 2017 solicitations: Digests are up to $5.99!  Annuals are $6.99 so I guess Jumbos will be $7.99?  No one is paying that.  Subscribe or don't bother.  [link]
    August 17, 2017, 08:32:09 AM
  • Vegan Jughead: DCR and Downloader, remember they also got that investment capital last year.  I think it was for a few hundred thousand dollars.  I don't know how long that will last, but I'm sure they're using that.
    August 17, 2017, 06:46:26 AM
  • BettyReggie: I saw the November 2017 Solicitations. Fiona Staples is doing a few covers. I can't wait to see what they look like though because they didn't show them yet.
    August 17, 2017, 06:06:23 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: @The Downloader - What cash flow they have is coming not from the floppy titles, but from the digests and trade collections. They're just spewing out different one-shots and short-run series to see if they can find something that will last.
    August 17, 2017, 01:20:05 AM
  • The Downloader: How can ACP continue to push out new titles, when they dont have the money to back it up?!
    August 16, 2017, 05:40:53 PM
  • Tuxedo Mark: Crap, I just remembered I forgot to pick up "Riverdale" today.
    August 16, 2017, 03:15:05 PM
  • BettyReggie: I asked Adam Hughes on twitter who is working on B&V #4 . He said Rachael Stott is working on it.

  • Vegan Jughead:
  • OK, if you find it pass it along.  They did actually record a bunch of surf instrumentals including one Dick Dale cover, but I don't think their hearts were in it.
  • August 04, 2017, 09:50:02 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • I don't know if I can find the quote now, but I'll try to look. It was also mentioned that they weren't really into surf music (of the Dick Dale type)... I think the Capitol Records guy was trying to tap the same audience as those American-International beach party movies.
  • August 04, 2017, 09:04:38 AM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • I've never heard that, DCR, but I'm not saying it's wrong.  I've always heard that Dennis was a surfer and a beach bum and Brian started writing songs about it.  It wouldn't surprise me though, if Capitol nudged them along.  As far as the cars, I think Brian was interested, but almost all their car song lyrics were written by an LA DJ named Roger Christian who would write poetry about cars and Brian would put them to music.
  • August 04, 2017, 06:49:09 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • I read a quote from one of them (can't remember which now) that said the name Beach Boys and the concept of composing songs around the theme of surfing and cars was the idea of someone at Capitol Records, because that had the most commercial appeal, and the band just went along with the idea.
  • August 04, 2017, 03:19:37 AM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • The Beach Boys are my favorite band.  Dennis liked surfing and actually surfed but that's true of the rest of them.  I like money too (but not as much as Mike Love)!
  • August 03, 2017, 09:18:44 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • Maybe that explains why the Beach Boys didn't actually even [l]like[/i] surfing or cars. (But they liked the money.)
  • August 02, 2017, 12:49:29 PM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • Unfortunately, "surfer dudes" in movies might be the most accurate depiction in film.  They're EXACTLY like that.
  • August 02, 2017, 09:51:09 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • I guess I just always assumed that the "surfer dudes" you see in movies and TV shows were about as accurate a depiction of real surfers as the bikers in biker movies (like, not at all).
  • August 02, 2017, 08:55:31 AM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • You're cracking me up, DCR.  Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm sure eventually I'll end up in the southeast where there ARE beaches, but seem to be relatively few surfers and the ones that are there don't have that annoying surf drawl when they talk.
  • August 02, 2017, 07:48:36 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • What's the problem? There are over 20 states to choose from that are nowhere near any beaches where you'd be bothered by surfers. It doesn't seem likely that there will ever be an Archie-Con, so no help there.
  • August 01, 2017, 06:15:47 PM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • DeCarlo Rules, I don't go to Comic Con.  It's almost impossible to get tickets and since I only care about Archie, it isn't worth the hassle.  I wasn't complaining about living in San Diego.  It's great.  Surfers annoy me regardless of their location.  Ha ha.

  • But look how convienient it is for you to get to San Diego Comic Con. You don't even need to rent a hotel room. You gotta take the bad with the good.
  • July 31, 2017, 12:03:58 AM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • OK, I know nothing about it really.  Thanks for educating me.  I live in San Diego and surfers annoy me.  I wish I lived where there weren't any.
  • July 30, 2017, 07:08:14 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • Oh, and just to be clear I'm talking about where good surfing beaches exist on US coasts, not which are the most popular or crowded with surfers, because the latter is more a function of population density and accessibility of roads, local weather conditions throughout the year, etc.
  • July 30, 2017, 04:25:40 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • Yes, there are actually good surfing spots in Washington and Oregon. And believe it or not, even in Michigan and Alaska! Don't forget the "Northwest Coast" includes everything north of San Francisco. The Pacific coast is just generally better than the Atlantic coast, but really all you have to do is look at the contours of both coastlines, and compare what it lookc like north of SF to what it looks like north of Maryland.
  • July 30, 2017, 02:31:55 PM
  • Vegan Jughead:
  • Ha ha.  Good one.  Do you really think the NE is less of a surf spot than the Northwest?  I'm seriously asking.  I don't think of Washington as a surfing hotbed, but maybe it is I don't know.
  • July 30, 2017, 12:58:57 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • Or to put it another way, if it's not far, not hard to reach, and you can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach... then you're statistically luckier than most of your fellow Northeastern surfers.  ;)
  • July 30, 2017, 08:39:27 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules:
  • I didn't say there weren't *any* good surfing spots on the northeast coast, just a lot fewer. If you're dividing both coasts into north and south -- the Northeast would rank last out of the four.
