And you should believe whatever advertisements tell you, because they would never lie to you.  :2funny:

Actually it really is a hit series.

There is no agreed upon quantitative definition of the term "hit series", so it can be used in whatever fashion the commercials consider expedient. "Look, we found 4 or 5 quotes pulled out of context from reviews, that make it sound like smart people from newspapers or magazines or websites (that you may or may not have heard of) are giving the show a thumbs-up! See, that proves IT'S A HIT!"

Music rights are usually negotiated only for a limited time, so they have to go through the process of getting rights clearances for each piece of music that appears in a movie or series all over again for DVD releases, and that can add up and get expensive, making a DVD release unprofitable. The more different musicians' rights they have to negotiate, the more expensive. This kind of thing has been going on with DVD releases of movies for a long time.

I voted for Otjer. I don't know who she is, but with a name like that she sounds interesting. Probably an exchange student or something.

Mrs. Lodge is very rarely seen.

That used to be true, from the 1940s through the 1980s, but actually Hermione Lodge has been a big presence in Veronica's life since Veronica got her own series back in the late 1980s. She hasn't been seen a lot since it's been cancelled, but Mrs. Lodge has appeared in issues of KEVIN KELLER and BETTY & VERONICA before those series were cancelled, also.

I would still prefer a sitcom (or actually a cartoon).  It would work better PG rated.

I agree with you. If they ever made a show like that, then I'd watch it.

I can't wait. 9 Hours & 29 Minutes till 9 pm we will see Episode 2 -'A Touch of Evil'.

It was a great movie when Orson Welles first made it in 1958. Well, at least they're ripping off the classics.

FUTURE QUEST #12 is the final issue of the series. Guess we'll have to wait and see whether there will be any other series that spin out of the events that created "the Hanna-Barbera Universe", but I suspect not.
No, no, NO!!  >:(  How stupid is this?! That's a great series!! Idiots....  :tickedoff:

Well, let's wait and see how it ends. Maybe the cast is just too big for an ongoing series, and it would seem forced to have those characters (apart from the common world-threatening menace uniting them right now) constantly bumping into each other. Up to now FUTURE QUEST has all been one long story (apart from a few flashback sequences), so maybe it was designed that way. Think of Future Quest as not only an introduction (or REintroduction) to these characters, but also as a "Crisis" in DC terms. So maybe they could launch other series out of it -- JONNY QUEST, SPACE GHOST, FRANKENSTEIN JR., HERCULOIDS, BIRDMAN... who knows. We may even see some new #1 issue solicited in the March Previews catalog, before issue #12 is actually out, or maybe the end of issue #12 gives some hint of more to come with some of the teams or solo heroes. Maybe the plan is even to give them ALL 12 issues each, one following after another.

SCOOBY APOCALYPSE #12 was also solicited in the February Previews, but it didn't say "Final Issue". That could be because the nature of that series doesn't represent an origin story for a whole universe of characters (haven't read it, to be honest). Scooby Apocalypse doesn't seem to be selling any better than Future Quest, from what I can tell. In fact, at my LCS, both Future Quest and Flintstones have more subscribers than Scooby Apocalypse. At first I just thought it was another series ending because of low sales, but the more I think about it, it's not really doing that bad. They have more modest expectations for these comics than they do for a mainline DC Universe title. The January Previews had this weird event-month thing with a bunch of one-shots teaming up DC heroes with H-B characters.

By the way, Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles guest-star in SCOOBY-DOO TEAM UP #22. You did get #20, with Space Ghost, right?

MICKEY'S INFERNO (Disney Graphic Novel #4) HC - Until I saw this listed in the Previews catalog, I had no idea Papercutz was doing Disney Comics. I don't know what Disney Graphic Novels #1-3 were, either. There's an ad for other TP collections on the inside that includes PLANES (a spinoff of CARS, no doubt), 2 volumes of MICKEY X (looks like some kind of Disney/X-Files mashup), and 2 volumes of MINNIE & DAISY: BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (a Disney spin on B&V?). MICKEY'S INFERNO is an Italian reprint from a 6-part serial that ran from October 1949 to March 1950 in Topolino, which makes it one of the earliest (if not the earliest) reprint of any of the European Disney material yet. It's an adaptation/parody of Dante's Divine Comedy (specifically The Inferno part), with Mickey playing the role of Dante and Goofy playing his guide through the underworld, the poet Virgil. I've never read any translation of Dante's Inferno, only seen a few adaptations, so it's hard to say exactly how faithful to the original work this is, but I'm familiar with the basic story. Various (1930s/1940s) Disney characters appear in the story in minor roles as some of the inhabitants of Hell that Dante and Virgil encounter, including Peg Leg Pete, Donald Duck, Dopey, Big Bad Wolf, Br'er Bear & Br'er Fox, Dopey and even Dumbo (...it's hard to imagine what Dumbo could have done in life to deserve being consigned to the fiery pit...)! The story is told using both traditional word balloons and a running series of caption text in every panel (one rhyming line followed by a line that doesn't, followed by a second rhyming line). I gather that's supposed to be imitative of the way that Dante structured the verse of his cantos, but it's somewhat distracting segueing back and forth between the panels and the running narrative captions (many of which include not just Dante's narration, but dialogue spoken by various characters as well). You know the translation (by Stefan Petrucca) of the original Italian comic script has to be very loose here, as some of the jokes contained in the captions contain modern references that would not have existed in 1949/1950. Makes for a bit of a slow read (I found myself reading a lot of the captions at least twice, as the meter seems very odd to me), but nonetheless I have a certain fascination with this story and Dante's imagined structure of Hell itself, as a series of concentric circles descending with each level (smaller than the last and reserved for those who have committed greater sins) toward the ultimate pit in the center where Satan himself resides. Being a Disney comic however, some of the nature of those sins is glossed over (and occasional cantos are skipped completely). I'm only about halfway through this (73 page) graphic novel at the moment.

Regardless of if you like President Trump or not, the fact of the matter is he is now the President for the next 4 (or maybe 8?) years. How about supporting him and the country?

I think I'll just try my best to ignore him. Just because he's president doesn't mean I have to be happy about it, but then I wasn't going to be happy about it if Hilary won. I'm not 'whining', but I'm not happy either.

Same applies to Mike Pellerito. He's got the job, but that doesn't mean he's always right. If I disagree with his agenda, I have a right to say so.

But yeah, pretty bored with the politics already.

KISS: The Demon had the same writer (possibly the same artist, too) as the other KISS #1, and is a prequel to the earlier series. Neither one did much for me, so I won't be continuing on this one either.

Another issue reviewed and next issue...um, let me check something...yeah, yeah. We're going places next issue. About time because we got four issues and five places to do everything in!

Well, like I said. They skipped one country entirely. Thinking about what this might have originally been projected as, I'd say this was probably supposed to run a year's worth of 48-page magazine issues, bi-monthly. That would have given an initial story arc for VERONICA & BETTY magazine of 288 pages total, over six issues, which seems to be about the right page count to fit a TP collection by comparison to the LIFE WITH ARCHIE magazine-derived TP series THE MARRIED LIFE. That would give 5 whole 48-page issues (or maybe 4 and a half, with the last half of the final issue of the arc dealing with "the return") to cover the different countries, and they could definitely cover two countries in a single magazine-size issue if they had to. Instead it got condensed down to half of that length as a muliparter for the B&V floppy comic. A little cramped? You could say.

Not that I believe that all of the magazine scripts had been written out before the plan was cancelled -- Dan Parent had probably already finished all the artwork for V&B #1, and there's a good chance Uslan already had the script finished (or close to finished) for #2. Who knows if Uslan had even had any thoughts about where the magazine might be headed after the student exchange year ended, or if that was just intended to kick it off and get the ball rolling, and afterwards he'd hand off the baton to some other writer. If the magazine had been fortunate enough to last a year and find a viable audience, it seems to me it would have gone even further off on a tangent, with V&B heading into the college experience.

Great. Can't even start a thread related to the actual comics without having that damn TV show take it over like a cancer.
We should just take our comics chat to PM since almost no one reads the actual Archie Comics anymore.

I would submit that a large part of that has to do with ACP tantalizing readers with solicitations for comics that they might publish if they feel like it, and then dashing those hopes by cancelling those same solicitations a month or two later.

Then there's the fact that the ones that actually do get published just aren't that good.
