I'm re-reading the Mediator series by Meg Cabot. I've actually met her, she was really nice.

LOVE this series. I've re-read it too. Never got to meet her though.

Does anyone know of any B&V stories where the girls encounter magic?  Like witches, magical artifacts, or warlocks?  I know that there's one where Veronica finds a wishing pendant and where the girls find a genie, but I'm looking for something new (or old, I guess) to read.   The only stories that I seem to find are ones involving Sabrina and no offense to my favorite teenage witch, I kinda want something where B&V are in the spotlight.  Thanks in advance

There's also a lot of stories with Betty and Veronica and Sugar Plum a Christmas fairy.

Does anyone know of any classic Archie, B&V, or Jughead hypnosis stories?  I've always loved this trope, whether it was on Giligan's Island, Mister Ed, The Flintstones, or The Suite Life on Deck.  You know me, I prefer B&V stories, but I'm also a fan of Jughead.  So almost any type of hypnosis stories are welcome.  I'm just looking for something funny (and free) to read.  Thanks in advance

I'm excited for this! I think it'll be a pretty good drama! I'm a sucker for murder mystery stories. Plus the retro neon aesthetic of the promotional pictures looks super nice compared to most gritty
shows that try to go for a colorless and desaturated look.

The casting seems spot on imo! I absolutely love the pick for everyone! Ross Butler as Reggie is so great! I've talked to Ross before and he's such a sweet guy! I'm kinda disapointed it's looking like Reggie won't have a very big role in Riverdale which is unfortunate... Camila as Veronica is also amazing! She is the perfect Ronnie! I'm so ready for her and Betty's relationship! I already ship them so hard! I hope they are endgame... All the actors are so cute! I can't imagine a better casting! I love that it's so diverse! It's going to be filled with such great representation!

I'm also glad their going more for a dark humored drama rather than a straight up sitcom or something. I don't think a comedy would work very well. Most of the jokes that work in comic form
would fall very flat and most teenagers aren't really that interested in that kind of comedy anymore anyway.

I hope it's on Friday night. There's nothing on tv on Friday night.

I hope so too.  Friday is the Jewish Sabbath and thus I will be unable to watch this atrocity.

It sounds to me like this show would be decidedly non-kosher, which would mean you shouldn't watch it no matter when it airs.  ;)

Putting a show on Friday nights is usually the kiss of death. It would for sure be canceled then.

Enchanted, a Disney movie with Amy Adams, dubbed in Cantonese.

Interesting. You understand Cantonese?

If so, it would seem ironic to me, as I would think there would be much more interesting films (i.e. films made in China, and otherwise not dubbed or subtitled in English) that you could be watching. I don't know anything about Enchanted (it could be a good film), but seems like it would be easily available in the language it was filmed in, wouldn't it?

I'm trying to learn Cantonese. I've already seen the movie in English before.

Have you seen The Mermaid, directed by Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle)? That's kind of a Disney-esque story that was (I believe) originally filmed in Cantonese.

EDIT: Oops, my bad. Should have checked first -- it's actually in Mandarin.

I have see other Stephen Chow movies in Cantonese but not this one.

I never stay up for the ball drop. I'm just too tired. I don't think I ever watch it.

I didn't see any ball drop this year despite watching the live coverage of NYC. The screen just changed to 2017. Maybe they don't do that anymore?

Trying to slog through the mid 2000s Betty and Veronica stories (Issue 200 or so) to complete Betty and Veronica on comics.org. Poor Jeff Shultz. The stories aren't that great plot wise. Most of them just feature Betty and Veronica without any other characters.

Well, I've read #200. That was a pretty good story, I thought (Kathleen Webb, IIRC). I would say if they begin to get boring and repetitious after that... good possibility that they're Mike Pellowski stories?

Fun Fact: If you're reading an uncredited ACP story from the 1990s or early 2000s, and there's some minor incidental character in it named "Melanie" or "_______ Morgan", chances are pretty good that it's a Mike Pellowski story. Pellowski also wrote the Riverdale High prose novel series from 1992-1993, and adapted a bunch of them (under different titles) as the "New Look Archie Series", writing under the pseudonym Melanie J. Morgan. Since by this time he'd already written hundreds of comic stories for ACP, it's unknown why he employed a nom de plume for that series. Unless he was wary of the potential fan backlash, which in fact is exactly what ensued.

Most of them are by Barbara Slate.

Where is there a collection of Valentine's Day stories, that's what I'd like to know. New Year's, 4th of July, Easter, and Thanksgiving don't particularly excite me too much as themes for Archie Comics stories.

http://www.comics.org/searchNew/?q=archie+valentine%27s+day&search_object=all

After sifting through that list on GCDb, and eliminating the listings for covers, letters or text pages, fan art, advertisements, stories featuring The New Archies, Little Archie, and L'il Jinx, and 1-page (or less) gag strips, plus multiple reprint appearances of the same story, I pared down that listing to 15 actual stories, the longest of which is the recent 10-page "That's Some Val-entine!" (Part 3 of "The Many Loves of Archie Andrews", featuring Valerie Smith of the Pussycats, from B&VDD #239, Feb. 2016). The rest are 5 or 6-pagers. For a company that has published 75 years worth of stories about teenagers, a large percentage of which involve dating in some way, that seems like a ridiculously low number of Valentine's Day stories (one of those, by the way, is a Sabrina story). Of course, the percentage of Archie Comics stories that have been indexed on GCDb is ridiculously low to begin with, compared to other publishers like DC and Marvel, but still...

There are also some digital collections that may apply to Valentine's Day. I think one is called Sweethearts. I will look into jt closer to V day.

See the Digital Exclusives thread for the listing of the stories in Sweet Hearts! A Valentine's Day DE.

A lot of these are Valentine's Day themed stories. The ones that aren't are about dating.

Pep Digital #38 Archie's Sweet Hearts 154 pg.

The Art of the Heart By a Not-So-Stupid Cupid (Betty and Veronica) 5 pg. from ??? I think this is Bob Bolling or maybe Holly G.
Narrated by a Cupid like character who discusses his adventures with shooting arrows at the Riverdale gang.

Queen of Hearts (Betty's Diary) 5 pg. from Betty's Diary #24.
Love and More Love (Archie) 5 pg. from Archie #255. *not a Valentine's Day story*

Special Delivery part 1, The Chocolate Drop part 2 (Betty and Veronica) 12 pg. from Betty and Veronica #62.

Valentine Mix Up (Moose) 6 pg. from Archie's Pals 'n' Gals DD #128. Probably a Fernando Ruiz story based on the strong jaw lines.

Kissing Up! (Betty and Veronica) 5 pg. from Betty and Veronica #224. *not a Valentine's Day story*

Date Night Plight! (Jughead) 6 pg. from ?? Jughead's parents go out on a date. *not a Valentine's Day story* Looks like DeCarlo or Schulz

The Heart of the Matter (Little Archie) 7 pg. from Little Archie Giant Comics #18.

Arrow Talk (Archie) 6 pg. Lead story from Archie DD #240. So I'm thinking they did new lead stories in digests at least back to 2008.

Love Notions Part 1 and 2 (Betty and Veronica) 11 pg. from Betty and Veronica Spectacular #7. *Not a Valentine's Day story*

Sweets to the Sweet (Jughead) 5 pg. from Jughead #179 (2nd series)

Be My Valentine (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) 5 pg. from Laugh #27 (2nd series)

Hint Stint (Archie) 6 pg. from ?? Reprinted in B&V Friends DD #221.

Monsterpiece Theater! (Chuck) 10 pg. from ?? Fernando Ruiz story.
Chuck draws a portrait of Nancy for Valentine's Day and mixes it up with one he drew of a monster.

A Second Valentine's Day (Jughead) 6 pg. from ?? Fernando Ruiz story.
Jughead writes an article about a Valentine's Day for guys to receive candy from girls. A chocolate company gets ahold of the article and decides to advertise it as a real holiday.

Romance Is In the Air (Betty and Veronica) 6 pg. from ?? Slate/Kennedy story. *not a Valentine's Day story*
While out shopping, Veronica keeps getting hit on by random guys. Betty is jealous. References the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes proposal.

The Language of Love (Betty) 5 pg. from ?? Reprinted in B&V Friends DD #224.

Small Is Big (Archie) 6 pg. from Archie #554.

A Cupid Question Part 1 and 2 (Little Sabrina) 11 pg. from Sabrina # ??

Love At First Sight (Betty's Diary) 5 pg. from Betty's Diary # ??
Betty gets a crush on a guy at school and imagines what her grown up life would be like with him. *Not a Valentine's Day story*

Love Is Nasty Part 1, 2, and 3 (Betty & Veronica & Cheryl Blossom) 20 pg. Part 1 is the lead story from Betty and Veronica Digest #180. Part 2 and 3 from ?? probably Betty and Veronica Digest #181. Part 3 is titled "How's Tricks?" (Cheryl & Reggie). Part 2 is a Valentine's Day story. Cheryl and Reggie start dating and Cheryl is crowned queen of the Valentine's Day parade. In Part 3, Cheryl and Reggie continue dating and team up to pull pranks on everybody.

Story Help / Re: New Year's stories
December 31, 2016, 03:47:12 PM
I was expecting more New Year's party stories in this one in addition to the New Year's resolutions ones. The other stories in here were just random, not really about either. They were more stories about someone resolving to do something or some belief they held about themself.

Pep Digital #36: Betty and Veronica New Year's Resolutions! 106 pg.

Promises to Keep Part 1, 2, 3, and 4 (Betty and Veronica) 21 pg. from Betty and Veronica #61.

Why Fight It! (Betty and Veronica) 6 pg. from Archie Giant Series #21. *not really a New Year's story*

Confidence Man (Archie) 6 pg. from Archie #362. *not really a New Year's story*

A New Leaf (Veronica) 11 pg. from Veronica #173. *not really a New Year's story*

Kiss of the Year (Cheryl Blossom) 6 pg. from Cheryl Blossom #28.

It's Their Miserable Lives Part 1 and 2 (Cheryl Blossom) 17 pg. from Cheryl Blossom 1995 Special #3.

Decisions, Decisions (Archie) 5 pg. from Pep #288. *not really a New Year's story*

The Perfect Day (Little Archie) 8.75 pages from Little Archie Giant Comics #17. *not really a New Year's story*

Cheers for the New Year (Katy Keene and Sis) 5 pg. from Katy Keene #29.

Party Hearty (Katy Keene) 8 pg. from Katy Keene #25.

The New Year's Resolution Contest Part 1 and 2 (Archie & Friends) 11 pg. from Archie and Friends ?? Reprinted in Archie DD #148.

I collect vinyl figurines but I still haven't bought a Pop one. I'm waiting for them to make a Daria Pop. I was tempted by the Mean Girls ones but usually the Pop figures just aren't detailed enough for me to be willing to pay so much for them. If they made Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Jughead ones, I might just have to buy them. I have seem some customized Archie ones on Etsy. Hopefully with the popularity of the show, they will make them. That would be one positive to come out of the show but I want them to make them in the Classic Archie style.
