I think I'm going to quit reading the Archie digests (not the B&V digests, just the Archie ones). There's this real feeling of blandness about them right now, like they're just in a holding pattern, waiting for their time to inevitably run out. That's probably true, to a lesser extent, of the B&V digests as well, but it's less apparent to me because those digest stories seem to have a greater aggregation of my favorite artists in each issue.

They seem to be done with any pretense of growth or evolution (while maintaining faithfulness to the core style), even in the new stories -- there's a real feeling of "just keep it average and homogenized, according to what sold in the past", so there's no real "trying" on the part of the digest editors -- they've basically given up, and aren't going to bother making ANY effort. There's a real contrast there to the period between the late '90s Archie Comics (both floppies and digests) up to 2015, when they were introducing new characters, trying new things, new kinds of stories (out of that came cousin Marcy, New Kids, Kevin Keller, Harper Lodge, and a lot of fun 'what if' variant stories, and even LIFE WITH ARCHIE). All that seems to be over now, and 'classic Archie style' just seems to be in a short period of maintenance until the final shutdown.

:'(

Sorry to hear your going to quit buying some of the Digests. I received super stellar deals on Digest subscriptions in the past so I pay about 1.50 per Digest. That's at least a 75% markdown on the current cover price.  I can't find any other deal with color comics for that price point.

Can someone link to an article that mentions Your Pal Archie will be a mini series? Articles below contradict this as even Dan Parent mentions it will be a new monthly title. There will be a special variant cover for the first five issues that connect to form a huge image of Pop's Chocklit Shoppe but I have not seen where it says it will be a mini series beyond this. I know you can only subscribe for 5 issues at the Archie Comics website but I am hoping its more than that as the articles are not very clear that it is only 5.

Article 1 from Archie.com
The following is a link to the announcement at Archie comics about Your Pal Archie and it mentions it is a new comic book series. There is no mention of it being a mini series beyond special variants for the first five.  This is a main new Archie series which could last for more than 5 issues.

http://archiecomics.com/yourpalarchie/
Classic Archie is back with a fun twist in YOUR PAL ARCHIE, a new all-ages comic book series launching in July from artist Dan Parent and writer/inker Ty Templeton.

Article 2 from Comicbook.com with quote from Dan Parent
In the following article Dan Parent mentions that Your Pal Archie is a classic monthly title not a mini series but specifically mentions it as a monthly title so where is the mysterious article that mentions this is a mini series unless we are guessing. I definitely like that they are taking inspiration from Riverdale for art as KJ Apa from Riverdale is HOT!! :smitten:

Quote from Dan Parent:
"In addition to drawing lots of classic Archie stories for the digests, I've been working on the digital first series Life With Kevin, starring Kevin Keller. I had a feeling a classic monthly title might come back into the fold. So here it is!"

A series is not a monthly title if it only lasts for a few issues and is short term but referred to as a mini series which I have not seen in any articles I have read.

I also watched the unforgettable, awesome, promising, action packed and suspenseful Riverdale.

I completely agree and understand but at least the next three Betty and Veronica Digests will be the bigger editions and one Betty and Veronica Digest for each of the next three months as shown:

Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics #247 releasing September 28 will be Fall themed
Betty and Veronica Friends Halloween Annual #251 releasing October 5
Betty and Veronica Holiday Annual #248 releasing November 2
#5
Here is an explanation for no Betty and Veronica #4 or Betty and Veronica Digests in the November solicits.

There is nothing wrong here with Betty and Veronica as it is a bi-monthly title. Issue 1 came out in July. Issue 2 will come out in September and Issue 3 in November. The reason its not in the solicits for November is that issue 4 will not come out until January 2017 which will show up in the December solicits. There is also nothing wrong with the Betty and Veronica Digests as well. Up until November 2016 there will be 9 Digests released, 2 annuals, 2 Jumbos and the 5 regular Digests. Only 10 Digests are released in a year. The 10th Digest for this title will most likely appear in the next solicits in December.

As for the Betty and Veronica Friends Digest, up until November 2016 5 Digests would have been released out of the 5 or 6 released in a year. The Betty and Veronica Digests and comic should appear in the December 2016 solicits.

Has anyone bought a subscription? I have since I subscribe to all the Digests. I just hope that this project is done well and is not just copy and paste of other collections already out there but unique.

I have also added a poll to this thread for you all to vote in.

Has anyone ordered a subscription to the new Archie 75th Anniversary Digests. Below is the info from the email I received promoting a special $29.99 price for 12 issues.

-Did you know Archie is launching the Archie 75th Anniversary Digest in September?

-There will only be 12 issues and each one is 224 pages. The cover price is $6.99 U.S. and $8.99 Canada. If you bought each digest individually it would cost you $83.88 in the U.S. and $107.88 in Canada.

-Because you are a loyal Archie email subscriber, for a limited time, you get this exclusive offer for ALL 12 issues for as little as $29.99!!

General Comics / Re: How many comics have you read?

For some reason this was a topic that popped into my head today, and I started to think about how I'd estimate that number, because... well, for me at least, it's a little like someone asking me how many TV programs I've watched in my lifetime, or how many hamburgers or slices of pizza I've eaten in my lifetime. Nobody (or practically nobody) keeps count of these things from the time they first started reading comics. You might know how many comics you OWN, but that not quite exactly the same thing as how many you've READ. I mean different comics, not the reading the same one over again. Then you have to ask, well what is meant by "a comic book"? Does one of those 16-page Halloween ComicFest issues count as "1 comic book" and one Archie 1000 Page Comics Digest count as "1 comic book" also? That doesn't seem right, and I have read comics in about as many different formats as there exist. But really I'm thinking of the standard format floppy comic of approximately 20-25 story pages as "1 comic book" so whatever the equivalent of that is. An Archie 1000 Page Comics Digest would be equal to about 40 or 50 standard comic books, so let's split the difference and say 45 comics. So there's the yardstick I'm going to use.

I then tried to figure out how long I've been reading comics, and how many years, and then how many weeks, that amounted to. Then I tried to estimate on average (conservatively) how many standard-size comics I'd read over that time in a typical week. Of course the average number of comics I read per week might be different now than it was at another time when I was reading more comics or less comics, so I tried to take that into account as well.

Long story short, the number of distinct standard page count comics that I've read over the course of my lifetime after doing the mental guesstimation and the math turned out to be about 40,000 -- or about 1 million pages of comics. That sounds like an exaggeration I'm sure, but after double-checking all my estimates, I feel confident that that's still on the conservative end of an estimation (it might even conceivably be 1.5 times that in actuality, but there's no way for me to be sure).

Impressive! I only wish I was able to read the huge amount of EC Comics, current Archie Comics and other material that I keep trying to get to.

Glad that you are back.
I have a grievance regarding your commemorative edition The Best of Archie Comics 75 years 75 stories.
Did you know that pages 513 to 544 are repeated in the  comic and pages 545 to 576 are missing?
Seems that somebody did not check before the print was run.
Richard.

This is probably an error with some copies. I checked my copy and these errors do not show up. Do not assume that your copy is indicative of all copies.

I really thought hard about getting the Unlimited service on my Apple App, but when it came down to it having a copy in my hand and flipping through those pages with my own two hands outweighed paying $5.99 or whatever the price is per month for a lot of comics to read. There is also the fact that a huge chunk of the year I am a Phys. Ed/ Health Teacher in a High School and although the Phys.Ed. part isn't too demanding the Health part can be at times with grading and things like that. Also in the Spring I am the Girls JV Lacrosse Coach which also takes a huge chunk of time. I just wouldn't have a lot of time during most of those months to read my share of what is on the service so I determined for myself it is not for me. I am glad to hear it is working out for others though.

You can go month to month but it all depends on how fast you read or how much you read per month.
So you can have the subscription for one month cancel it and then the next month re-open it? I guess that would work, but it could be a hassle especially if they have any type of surcharges for signing up.It also leaves the fact I love having the comics in my hands.

I completely agree that I prefer the paper copies of my Archie Comics. But there are digital only exclusives plus certain series like Sabrina and other older comics that you simply can't get in the paper format as easily so Archie Unlimited becomes very handy. Although if the app is not being used very much its definitely not worth the $7.99 a month unless you do make use of its exclusives and older collections you can't get anywhere else.

I was wrong as I was assuming that it was a 2 part story but it is indeed a 4 part story. So the next three parts will be in the next three World of Archie Comics Digests #61, #62, #63

I actually don't mind the page count these stories take as their awesome multi part stories from the past. Usually they limit the 20 page stories like Man from Riverdale to one per digest as the rest are the regular smaller stories.

Just received World of Archie Jumbo Comics #60 and they are featuring a reprint of part 1 of a 2 parter Man from Riverdale from the amazing Fernando Ruiz. Part 2 will be in World of Archie #61 coming in August!

@irishmoxie: I wonder who could tear this apart if includes so much content for the price. I am very new to Archie Unlimited but being a traditional paper comic only reader my opinions may change with more use but I hope I keep enjoying it. I think I get my money's worth just reading a few of the digital exclusives. Yes I don't get to keep the comics but the price for so much content I can read and enjoy far outweighs that fact

I just started Archie Unlimited for $7.99 a month. Does anyone know if its been lower in the past? I am traditional paper digests but I have actually enjoyed the amount of comics I can read for the price point and I am loving it so far. Its easy to choose from so many great series and there's more content than I expected. I am not sure but if this continues I may enjoy the digital experience far more than I had hoped. I don't have to dig out any old comics or books and the brightness of my iPad and colors pop through seeing it all there. Any others enjoy the value you get with a subscription. I honestly feel I can get through far more content seeing as how convenient it all is and more content keeps getting added.

Of course it does not include the current six months of Archie print comics but then that is why I have the subscriptions coming in the mail. To be able to go through such a backlog of many series, digests, digital exclusives is awesome!

I hate to admit it but I am loving the brighter color and look of the digital comics versus paper where the colors appear darker and more subdued due to the paper quality at least in comparison to the digests. I still love my paper Archie Comics but I like reading Archie in a different way now. I still need more time to decide just how much I really enjoy this new way in comparison to how I was just basically only reading the print comics and refused to try the digital comics but when the price, content and convenience is right then I just had to give this a try.

I just finished the two part story in which Archie plays Robbing Arch. Very well drawn throughout. The story could have been better in a few areas especially the ending so 4 out of 5 stars overall. Now I will be working on the two part story King of the Lost Land drawn by Fernando where Archie and the others face dinosaurs.

I just bought a subscription to Archie Unlimited and I will able to see more of Fernando Ruiz's awesome art.I have the print copies but I have to dig then out of storage. Digital comics can be so convenient at times like this.
