  • DeCarlo Rules: It's crazy that ACP hasn't reprinted those 2 issues as a double-size one-shot. Or the lead story in a TP collection of vampire stories (including "Twilite" and others).

  • irishmoxie: That's crazy about those Betty and Veronica issues being worth so much. They're only about 6 years old. I'm pretty sure I have copies of them.
    November 04, 2018, 01:36:00 am
  • DeCarlo Rules: On a relatated note, the real FIRST Vampironica appeared in Larry Welz' underground comic Cherry Poptart #1 [link]. That can be had right now, CGCed at 9.4, at the Buy-It-Now price of $280 on ebay. Although the book had several subsequent printings, only the first printing ($2 cover price) contains the Vampironica story. Much, much scarcer than B&V #261 & 262, but then far fewer people seem to be aware of its existence. It may not be the same Vampironica as the one that appears in her own comic book from ACP, but then you can easily make the argument that neither is the Vampironica from B&V 261-262.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Yes, I mentioned this a while back somewhere around the time Vampironica #1 was first solicted or shipped. I even mentioned it to Dan Parent and told him if he still had copies he should get them CGC'ed.
    November 03, 2018, 04:33:03 pm
  • rusty: Apparently Betty and Veronica #261 and 262 (1987 series) are popular now due to Vampironica.  Somebody actually purchased a copy of #261 for $299 on ebay recently.

All About Archie / Life with Archie (Warning: Possible Spoilers)
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:30:32 pm »
I just finished reading it through Comixology in the volumes. I'd recommend using the Unlimited service to just "borrow" a published book, then when you finish it, "return" it. You'd pay a monthly fee. I think it's worth it, but I digress. On to the story, or in this case, stories, since there are two of them, with Archie either marrying Betty (AMB) or Veronica (AMV).

Both universes had good stories in the soap opera style, if you're into that sort of thing. LWA was unique in that it showed The Gang & Co. all as adults, not as a dream, but as actual, real stories. I found myself referring the AMB universe as the more realistic storyline, though the AMV one may have been the more exciting storyline with the Fred Mirth angle. However,  I wonder what happened to him? Did he vanish from the face of the earth? Dangling plot device unanswered.

That little crossover between the two stories was interesting, but I had some confusion because Archie seemed to be all over the place as he and his other self switched places. Seeing Ambrose was nice, but having him as the "connection" between the two realities was strange at best, but I  guess the writers had to explain how the realities merged. I think I'm glad he settled in the AMB universe. He seemed far better a fit there.

I'm speeding it up a bit to the end, obviously with Archie's death as the main plotline. I noticed that the writers shrewdly "merged" both universes because I couldn't tell which one was which. Maybe it didn't matter, which was the point.

I've obviously skipped several points, which I hope others here will chime in on. What do you guys think? Thanks....

All About Archie / Re: Story Jumps In Newest Archie Jumbo Digest
« on: February 18, 2018, 07:44:11 pm »
Sounds like a printing error.  I checked my copy of #286 and assume that you are talking about the Ski the World story.  In my digest, Page 10 is on the back of Page 9 and then the story ends on Page 11 with a little END box in the last panel.  The back of that page starts The Andrews Family Tree story.
I'll have to read again. I didn't see page 10 or 11.....

« on: January 24, 2018, 04:50:18 pm »
Well, I couldn't find a copy of the one-shot, but unless they actually SHOW Jughead transforming into a werewolf, I'm gonna say he's not (despite whatever the covers show you); it didn't happen ONCE in issues #1 or 2.
Comixology has it on digital, if you prefer it....

All About Archie / Re: That's It!

No more Archie and Me digest!  >:(  Why? Those stupid Archie Babies! I hate them!  >:(  I'd sooner read Katy Keene than that drivel!  :tickedoff:

I guess they must have figured -- it worked for Disney Babies and Baby Looney Tunes, so why not?

But I totally agree -- of all the many creatively bankrupt concepts ACP has ever generated, Archie Babies has to rank as the absolute worst (and this from a company that brought out comics based on Koosh-Kins...) Yes, I am done with Archie and Me Comics Digest.

The Archie-centric digest titles (as opposed to B&V) have really reached a nadir lately. They have they dropped any variety or reprints of interesting or little-seen series, apart from the drivel mentioned above. I guess they must really be desperate, since they've re-instituted the free digital comic giveaways after two years, with no fanfare whatsoever. These are apparently now under the title Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest.
Now, here I could go for the free stuff. Is the free digital on their site?

This is from Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #285, the first digest issue to appear in 2018.

The free digital comic is Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest #35.
Thank you, DR! Free is free!  :2funny:

All About Archie / Re: Weird Archie Comics Panels/Storylines
« on: December 29, 2017, 06:13:29 pm »

Here's one panel I just randomly found in one of my old digests, and it isn't a photo shopped one. I did a double-take when I saw it:

 https://www.archiefans.com/index.php?media/item/jugheadtrumpref.3567/

Trump seems to be mentioned, or appear, in comic books lately even more than Obama ever did (and his presence was relatively conspicuous). Indeed, there's practically an entire subgenre now of Trump comics. Here's a short list of recently noted solicitations:

ANTARCTIC PRESS:
TRUMP VS CLINTON: UNCIVIL WAR COLORING BOOK
   TRUMP VS TIME LINCOLN #1
(ONE SHOT)
HOW THE TRUMP STOLE CHRISTMAS (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP #1 (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP: A MAN-CHILD COVFEFE! #1 (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP: WORLD WAR T #1 (ONE SHOT)
TRUMP: PUTIN ON THE HITS #1 (ONE SHOT)

DC COMICS:
   MAD ABOUT TRUMP TP

DRAWN & QUARTERLY:
   THE UNQUOTABLE TRUMP GN

FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS:
   TRUMP'S A-B-C HC

IDW:
SH*T MY PRESIDENT SAYS: THE ILLUSTRATED TWEETS OF DONALD TRUMP HC

KEENSPOT ENTERTAINMENT:
   TRUMP'S TITANS #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS THE MANDELA EFFECT #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS FIDGET SPINNER #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS MARK ZUCKERBERG #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VOL 01: SICK OF WINNING
TP
Yes, President Obama had the nerve to just try and do his job in being a President, as opposed to our current Narcissistic Ninny in the Oval Office. That's why Trump gets the comics to me. Sure, Obama made the talk show circuits while President, but he did it with style and dignity. Now? It's a freakin' reality show 24/7...

All About Archie / Re: Trula Twyst (Jughead's nemesis)
« on: November 07, 2017, 03:31:44 pm »
Why? Because she's the only person capable of getting the best of Jughead?  ;D
I think she gets too much the best of Jughead. Trula seems to do no wrong with him, completely crippling Jughead, seemingly almost all the time. Then again, Jughead allows himself to let her really get in his head, and he gets riled up, which makes it worse...

General Discussion / Re: What comics have you been reading?
« on: September 22, 2017, 07:22:18 pm »
Check this one out, DR. It's on a future issue. And the story behind it is quite interesting. The Galaxy Trio apparently started out as villains, but Space Ghost turned them into good guys! I like the new subplots the writers are giving the HB superheroes....

All About Archie / Re: Betty & Veronica - Lucey vs. DeCarlo
« on: September 09, 2017, 11:33:57 pm »
They say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
I find DeCarlo's B&V more visually appealing overall. Even when the girl's facial expressions are mad or angry, they still look cute to me. When Lucey draws B&V angry--they're not so cute. Just my opinion.
I do think that Lucey's Archie seems to display a wider range of expressions than Archie's DeCarlo's, and he's good at capturing the physical slapstick-type situations.

In the bottom panel, this is NOT Betty. I remember this story....

All About Archie / Re: Your Pal Archie #2
« on: September 03, 2017, 06:37:42 am »
In the world of Archie Comics, concussions are always cause for hilarity ensuing.  ;D

I liked #1, if only for the reason of getting some new classic Archie stories again, and longer ones. I think I liked the Jughead learning to drive story better than the first part of Archie wins the lottery, but whether it's because I've gotten past the redesigned looks now or whatever, I have to say I liked #2 overall a lot better, especially the conclusion of the 2-parter. Reggie getting amnesia from a bonk on the head sounds like a real throwback to the Doyle-Lucey kind of stories from the late-50s/early-60s, which is a good thing.
I think Reggie's faking it. He's up to a massive joke on everyone.... :)

I actually don't read any webcomics at this time, though I'd heard of GPF.  I have purchased a few kickstarter collections of webcomics such as The Meek, Sorcery 101 and Widdershins.

I did buy the Batman '66/Legion comic, but haven't read it yet.  That will be part of the catch up with comics that have come in over the past couple of weeks.  I usually get caught up with comics shortly before going back to school.  I also have a ton of manga volumes and graphic novels/trades that I"m way behind on and won't be caught up on any time soon.
Yes, thank you for providing the GPF link as well. I'm just now getting here.....

News and New Releases / Re: ARCHIE COMICS FOR AUGUST 2017
« on: May 29, 2017, 06:58:33 am »
See, here's the thing we need to take into account... it's been a couple of years now since we've seen a new story written or drawn by anyone but Dan Parent. Now all of a sudden we see one credited as written by Dan, but drawn by an artist who we haven't seen a new story from in a couple of years -- Bill Galvan. Now, it's possible they may just have overlooked that one somehow when they were clearing the inventory of already paid-for work, but I don't think so. Notice that for the last six months, all of the digests released in any given month follow some kind of theme. In this round of solicitations the digest theme is "Back-To-School", which is as good an excuse as any for a story starring Dilton Doily. That indicates to me that Dan wrote a bunch of themed back-to-school stories for the digests, and drew all of them but one. Maybe he needed some help, because he's busy working on DIE KITTY DIE, YOUR PAL ARCHIE, plus the usual 5-page digest stories and covers... and he didn't draw the covers this month either. They may be old covers they just found that hadn't been used yet, but even so... I think that "How Shocking" 5-pager is a for-real, newly-commissioned art job by Bill Galvan. Either that or the credit is a typo... :(

I follow Bill Galvan on Facebook.  This is indeed new work for him.  He's been posting that he's doing covers and digest stories for Archie.
That's great! I'd love to see some new stories done by Jeff Shultz for Archie as well, not just from Super Suckers....
