  • DeCarlo Rules: @Tuxedo Mark - Archie Double Digest #284 (cover-dated Jan. 2018) was the last issue to appear using the "Double Digest" logo. All issues since then have appeared under the title Archie Jumbo Comics Digest. Issue #288 is scheduled to ship Apr. 25th, and #289 is scheduled to ship May 30th. If you're searching on Amazon, maybe you need to type in "Archie Jumbo Comics Digest" instead of "Archie Double Digest". Except for Archie and Me Digest, all the remaining ongoing classic Archie digest issues in 2018 have been Jumbo Comics digests.

  • irishmoxie: I think they just want you to use comiXology. I prefer the kindle app to comiXology. Much easier to swipe through pages.
    March 06, 2018, 01:49:17 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules: Maybe there's some slight modification to the PDF files they use in the ComiXology app to adapt it to feature-specific things in Amazon's Kindle reader app, and that takes a little while for them to convert the files? Just a wild guess.
    March 05, 2018, 06:20:53 AM
  • Vegan Jughead: That's weird since Amazon owns Comixology.
    March 03, 2018, 08:20:53 PM
  • irishmoxie: A lot of times Amazon's digital comics' releases are later than Comixology's.
    March 03, 2018, 11:51:24 AM
  • Tuxedo Mark: Yeah, it's the digital version.
    March 03, 2018, 08:34:18 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: Oh, and if you're talking about the digital version, then it might have a different release date, too. Amazon's digital comics are really ComiXology's digital comics. Amazon owns ComiXology. Most publishers have a same-day-and-date print & digital release policy, but ACP's might be different, or it could just be an odd fluke.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Comic book shops gor VIXENS #4 on February 28th. Sometimes Amazon may get products on a different date, because the bookseller market is serviced by a different distribution system. Could be later, or sometimes, earlier, but usually only by a few days or a week.

The 1940s stories are in the public domain?

Copyrights on the 1940s MLJ comics were not renewed at the appropriate times, because when the renewals were due, nobody at the time imagined that there would be any future use for those stories. This is true of a lot of the Golden Age comics. Some characters which are still owned by DC Comics, like the characters formerly published by Fawcett Comics and Quality Comics in the 1940s. Comics published in the 1940s by Fawcett, Quality, and MLJ can be found on public domain comics websites. While the copyrights to those original stories expired when they were not renewed, trademark law is different. Some of the public domain comics have been removed from those sites by request of the respective trademark holders, because lawyers will always find something to contest, and even if some of the people hosting these sites are technically well within their legal rights, they don't want or need (and can't afford) to contend with some legal harassment.

Just in case anyone didn't see my reply to the other topic about the issues, everything should be fixed now. The post form being broken was due to a server setting that was somehow messing up the URLs, and the security error was due to a hidden setting related to the addon that rewrites the URLs.

Got a new problem for you, sorry. You know in the albums where you have "newer" or "older" at the bottom of a page panel where you can go to the next or previous page panel? Well, some pages have them, and others don't. One has to go back to an album page with the 24 panels, then click on a panel, as opposed to clicking through the pages...

Got a nice stash uploaded today in my second album! Goldberg-drawn Action Archie and Chuck goodies that include a Riverdale blizzard and earthquake (though both not in the same story, and the earthquake isn't even the main plot--go figure), Melody encourages a boy stalker, a Jughead story, and more! Enjoy!  ;D

News and New Releases / Re: ARCHIE COMICS FOR MAY 2017
« on: March 05, 2017, 11:25:08 AM »

I don't know what year this comes from, but Archie's Funhouse only got started a couple of years ago [...]  I know which comic I'd rather buy.

Archie's Funhouse #20 is from July 2016. Jughead & Archie #22 is from October 2016. Both covers were drawn by Fernando Ruiz some time ago. He turned in his final work for ACP over a year ago, so in all likelihood he'd gotten far ahead on covers for these two particular digest titles, and they had been drawn and sitting awaiting publication for some time. This is because as 2015 began, both of those particular titles were being published at the frequency of 10 times per year. Sometime around the Fall of 2015, both of them were reduced in frequency from the former 10 issues per year to only 6 issues per year, which accounts for Fernando's work still appearing on those digest covers long after he'd received his last paying work from ACP.

As I mentioned before, it seems very likely that the digest editor decided that it might be a good idea for covers to become less specific and more generic. If you look carefully at some of the collected 1000 Page and Giant Comics digests, you'll see that those are now mostly all Dan Parent covers as well, recycled from images used on previous covers. If it's a joke cover, it can't be used this way again, because readers will remember the joke and realize that they had seen the same cover before. Worse still, they might not buy it if it looks familiar, thinking that they already own or have read it because of that. They're just trying to save money, and are probably building up a big file of seasonal and themed images that can be recycled (once they have enough of them) over and over for years.

On the left, from November 2016. On the right, from February 2015. Recycled (or re-scooter'ed) after only 20 months.

Welcome/Introductions / Riverdale brought me here

Hi, I'm Kaitlyn and I am 18 years old and I started watching the new Riverdale series on the CW a few weeks ago. Before I start with my introduction though I want to say I lurked this forum and saw that many either hate the show or love it. I just want to make it clear that this thread is not going to be about the show or turn in a debate about hating or liking the show. It simply is what brought me to here and got me to pick up 3 Archie Jumbo Comics to read. So please don't bring that here. OK, like I said I picked up 3 Archie Jumbo Comics which seemed liked the best bang for my buck and I was very happy with what I have read. The comics I bought were Jughead and Archie #25, Archie #276, and Betty and Veronica #250. So my question to the more seasoned readers out there is it better for me to continue to pick these up periodically at my local bookstore or maybe get a subscription for Jumbo comics directly from Archie comics?

Hi there! I go by Justnobody online, and I'm a huge archie fan who got here from a tumblr friend! I've been into it for years now, I always sorta knew about it but never really picked up a digest until I read all of Afterlife With Archie in one sitting, hah. Looking forward to my time here!

They're really pushing Cheryl. Hopefully she makes more than just a mini appearance. I wonder if she will get her own series. Seems like everyone is.

DeCarlo Rules was right about Adam Hughes pushing back Betty and Veronica #2 infinitely it seems. I don't understand the archaic comic system. They make you order 3 months in advance and then delay delay delay. It seems so out of touch with the modern consumer. I used to buy tons of novels when I had more time to read and they were never delayed like comics are. Comics are seated almost as much as music albums.

What kinda work do you do that's busier in the summer?

I live and work on Cape Cod. We rely heavily on summer tourism to get us through the winters, so we're ramping up for our busy season.

I hadn't been on the site for a while, and then came back to find it essentially starting over, so here I am. I see that many kept their former names, so *waves to those I know*. For those who don't know me (or forgot, because it's been a hella long time, my name is Erin. I used to read/watch Archie when I was a kid, but stopped and only got back into it a couple of years ago. I'm keeping up with the new stuff, but my favorites are the 70s and early 80s stories and artwork I grew up with. I do, however, like the two horror titles.

Favorite characters are Betty, Sabrina, Valerie, and Reggie.

I'm heading into my busy season, so I may not be around terribly much until fall, but you never know when I might pop in. See you later! :)
