  • DeCarlo Rules: It seems like they put extras on a disc because people expect them, or it helps drive sales, but more often than not, it seems like very little thought goes into the content. Of course there are some examples where the extras are exceptional, but usually that's not the case.

  • irishmoxie: I love digital movies and streaming. I usually get the Blu-ray Disc because I like to watch the extras the first time and then end up adding the digital code online or rip it and put it on the hard drive. Just much more convenient to stream it then search for the disc when I want to watch it.

  • DeCarlo Rules: On the other hand, maybe I should just bypass the Blu-Ray format altogether, buy a huge terabyte HD, and download everything. There's something to be said for that, in that you can get everything quicker and stacks of Blu-Ray cases aren't taking up space in your house, I guess.

  • DeCarlo Rules: This coming from a guy who still hasn't capitulated to the inevitable domination of Blu-Ray. It's getting to the point where I might have to relent, since I've seen some anime sets being released for the first time on Blu-Ray (no combo pak) with NO release of a DVD version.

  • DeCarlo Rules: I'll never get used to people not being able to wait a few days when they order stuff online. I guess maybe I could understand it IF it were something that there was no other way to see, but I assume you've already seen the episodes.  People who are that impatient usually don't even buy disc sets, they just buy it digitally or stream it.

  • DeCarlo Rules: The questions you ask about classic Archie (which is a cartoon on paper) are sort of "real-world logic" questions. A cartoon world, unlike the real world, creates its own rules and its own logic, nonsensical as that might be. Like Wile E. Coyote not being affected by gravity until he looks down and realizes he's run off the edge of the cliff.

Looked at the review....and don't disagree with some of the observations....but I'd still bet you'd be entertained. Looks great....sounds good. Grab some popcorn and a favorite beverage. Fire up the big screen...turn up the volume...and enjoy. I'm betting you'll have fun. But then again I'm fairly easily amused.

Anyone see Altered Carbon on Netflix?  Nice combination of Mystery and Science-Fiction.

It was fun...ready for another season already. Doctor Smith is a darker version and most effective in giving me the creeps.

Interesting to read everyone's guesses as to how many comics they have collected or accumulated. I am fortunate to have somehow hung on to the majority of comics I collected in my younger days. At different times I had different interests, but 90% of  my books are golden and silver age. I've thinned the herd of more recent books in the last decade, but also managed to add others from eras. Recently completed my run of Tarzan from the Dell Four Color books through the Gold Key books. I miss the hunt looking the last few pieces in that collection. Right now my most fun is in Golden Age Archie...great art...wonderful covers and generally entertaining stories. All together I have roughly around 5000 books, but never seem to get around to doing a good inventory. Probably explains why I end up with duplicates every too often.

Lots of opportunities and openings in retail.....so probably there is an even better job coming your way soon. If you enjoy retail work (and it isn't for everyone for sure) you'll find the right spot. I was in retail for the same company for thirty-five years and enjoyed my job, but retirement is even better. :coolsmiley:

All About Archie / Re: Deja Vu

Okay...here is one of my favorite Deja Vu combos. Give good old Archie 10 years to rethink it and he opts for both Veronica and Betty :)

And same gag....different books and characters. Sometimes these are almost like those spot the difference puzzles.

All About Archie / Deja Vu
« on: April 14, 2017, 09:24:14 pm »
One of my pleasures in collecting Archie Comics is finding those I call the Deja Vu issues. It is a fairly usual practice for Archie Comics to use covers from the Golden Age to repeat in the Silver Age. Usually the same gag and cast with some updates in the look. I think the theory was that the average enthusiasm for comic fans was 10 years or less, so there was no need not to recycle a good cover with some updates. Here is Pep 72 from March 1949 and Archie 120 from June 1961.

Did anyone else have the pleasure of enjoying the Freddy the Pig series in their younger days? Absolutely wonderful books by Walter R Brooks and all were illustrated by Kurt Wiese. Great adventures for younger readers, but still stand up nicely when you read them again as adults.

Well so long Ronnie. I hope you and Alexandra find some board where foul language and negative attitudes are more appreciated and you'll have a good time.

Best of luck.

I'll echo that thought....good job. And now we can go back to enjoying discussing Archie comics and knock off the drama. The return of civility will be a refreshing change.

Uncle Scrooge? Good stuff always and a natural for an Archie reader. Try Super Duck some time.

I think destroyed might be a bit of a stretch....seems more like annoyed

Sigh and poor Alexandra keeps mistaking rudeness as humor. I wonder why her karma just keeps going negative. Perhaps she just needs to find a board dedicated to herself. Seems she is quickly wearing out her welcome here.

Why not try being a little more considerate and you might fit in a bit better. Worth a try.
