  • DeCarlo Rules: I just took a peek at online preview pages of Superteens vs. Crusaders #2, and I'm actually starting to get pretty excited about this. Not from an Archie-centric POV, because it's not classic Archie-style... but the Mighty Crusaders are looking mighty good to me, maybe better than I've ever seen them done. I don't expect that to make any difference in sales, since practically no one else cares about those characters...  :(

  • DeCarlo Rules: Ah, I was hoping for some kind of surprise. The usual ongoing titles plus TPB collections of VIXENS Vol. 1, ARCHIE'S BIG BOOK Vol. 4 (Fairy Tales), and the previously-announced debut issues of the miniseries ARCHIE MEETS BATMAN '66 and ARCHIE'S SUPERTEENS VS. MIGHTY CRUSADERS. It's nice to see a second issue of Dan Parent's BETTY & VERONICA FRIENDS FOREVER, which means that it's bi-monthly, for however long it lasts.  :smitten:

I just finished watching the first season of Black Lightning and thought it was pretty good.  I'm working my way through the third season of The Magicians now.

Story Help / Re: Who has a copy of Jughead double digest no. 52?

Mycomicshop.com has several copies in stock.  There are also a few copies on ebay at the moment.

I checked with comics.org and that is not an issue that they have inventoried yet.

Sounds like a printing error.  I checked my copy of #286 and assume that you are talking about the Ski the World story.  In my digest, Page 10 is on the back of Page 9 and then the story ends on Page 11 with a little END box in the last panel.  The back of that page starts The Andrews Family Tree story.

I'll definitely be buying the series.  Then again, I supported Your Pal, Archie as well.

General Discussion / Re: How many comics do you own?
« on: February 10, 2018, 10:25:24 PM »
I've been collecting since 1977 so I've got a headstart on you.  I also collect many more titles than most collectors with lots of DC, Marvel, Dell, Gold Key, Harvey, Charlton and other companies, including more recent ones like Dark Horse, Image, IDW and so on.

I don't know exactly how many comics I have, but I'd estimate it at around 90,000 with approximately 7000 of them Archies.  The oldest one I have is Superman #6 form 1940.  I started collecting with Richie Rich comics so those are among my favorites.

I'll be reorganizing and making a new inventory of my collection at some point in the next year or so.  I will probably also downsize it a bit and get rid of some of the series I don't care about as much anymore such as X-Men and Aquaman.

I picked up a number of issues of March of Comics, a promotional series that ran for nearly 500 issues back in the 1940s-1980s.

I watched the first 9 episodes of season 2 of Riverdale over the past few days.  Shows had been piling up on my dvr over the past few months and I am now all caught up except for the first two episodes of Grown-ish which I will watch tonight.

The onslaught of new episodes of various shows is going to pick up soon though as Arrow, Supergirl, Flash and other shows resume and as Black Lightning, Magicians, Alienist and other shows begin or return.

I picked up a large run of the Dell Roy Rogers series that filled a lot of gaps and I now need only 14 more issues for the run.  The run included #1, but it has a detached cover so I'm not keeping that issue.

I just finished watching the third season of Outlander.  It is an excellent show.

This looks somewhat interesting, but I've never been a Dick Tracy fan so I'll probably end up passing on it.

I'm loving the Casper series. I wish they had more available.

Have you read the original Casper comics from the 1940s-1990s?  There are plenty of those available.

If you're thinking of Archie Giant Series which ran from 1954-1992  (38 years), it actually produced fewer issues than Pep.  It ended with issue #632, but there were two gaps.

It skipped from #35 (Oct 65) to #136 (Dec 65)

and it skipped from #251 (Oct 76) to #452 (Dec 76)

I'm not sure why they skipped these numbers, but it means that there were only 332 issues in the series as opposed to 632.

I find it interesting, though, that Archie Giant Series actually continued a variety of canceled titles, including Pep (5 issues) and other titles such as Josie, Little Archie, Archie's Pals n Gals and Archie and Me.

How do you know Archie's not 18 in this story?

Because he's still in high school? Nothing has changed in that respect. I guess the Archieverse just has different laws regarding playing the lottery.

There are plenty of high school students who are 18.  I turned 18 in January of my senior year, but I've had students who turned 18 before their senior year even started.

I haven't read the story in question and he probably isn't supposed  to be 18, but not just because he is still in high school.

Sony actually still has the film rights for Spider-Man, but they are sharing them with Marvel as part of their deal, which is what allows Spider-Man to be in the Marvel cinematic universe.  The technicalities don't really mean much to the consumers/fans, but it is nice to see the two companies cooperating and the results - Spider-Man Homecoming and Spider-Mans appearance in Civil War - were pretty good.

Okay, maybe I misunderstood what was going on there. So are you saying Sony produced the Spider-Man: Homecoming film, or Marvel Studios/Disney? And in either case, how does the other company make money off it, or is it some kind of profit-sharing percentage deal on paper?

My understanding is that Sony put up the money for the film and paid Marvel Studios a fee to produce the movie.  Sony distributed the movie and kept the profits while Marvel Studios gets to use the Spider-Man character in Avengers, Captain America and other movies that are owned by Marvel.  Sony retains the rights which is why they are exploring movies for Venom, Black Cat and others.
