  • CAPalace: I'm a woman btw and I'm just so sick of the blatant anti-men thing going on in comics these days. It's not doing women any favors either. :/

  • CAPalace: They're banking on Archie 700 to sell a lot because "lol a new number wow lol" and it will for the first issue but it'll just go back to the average/poor numbers it had before. And YOU KNOW with that writer on B+V it's going to turn into an anti-men, oooh girl power lol violence against men and demeaning men is feminism and fun lol lol Good luck. I'll stick to Ebay to find the DeCarlo stuff thanks.
    July 09, 2018, 09:04:54 PM
  • Tuxedo Mark: I'm looking forward to the new B&V series. Personally, I think that previous B&V series by what's-his-name was way worse than anything that Rotante wrote on Vixens.
    July 09, 2018, 08:43:47 PM
  • DeCarlo Rules: So, so predictable... they love to exploit NUMBERS, whether it's a single digit (1 or 0) or a triple-digit ending in 00. Good lord, I can't believe they're actually giving Jamie Rotante ANOTHER B&V series to write ruin! She is the worst I've read -- although it's a tough call, Marguerite Bennett was pretty horrible as well. Nick Spencer can actually be quite good as a writer... or pretty bad, depending on the character and the direction. He was great on ANT-MAN and SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN (both books that had a strong humorous subtext), and not so hot on CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE AVENGERS. And he's he new writer on (yet another) first issue of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, so I wouldn't guess the ARCHIE gig will last. ACP could probably only afford to hire him for that ONE issue, #700.

    July 05, 2018, 12:14:16 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: So both ARCHIE and RIVERDALE are "on hiatus"? That means ACP has no ongoing floppy comic titles. Not a good sign. Good thing they still have the digests going (knock on wood).
    July 05, 2018, 12:12:47 AM
  • Vegan Jughead: I'm sure it has been; it was a dumb concept LOL.  The RIVERDALE comic is on hiatus until at least early 2019 and I'm skeptical it will ever come back.

General Discussion / Re: What is to become of me and my collection?

What are your intentions for your collection?

Probably leave them with my family as I travel the world.

General Discussion / What is to become of me and my collection?
« on: September 26, 2017, 08:34:37 PM »

Hi all!  Long time no see!  So, maybe you have (or haven't noticed) my absence for over half a year or so now.  There is a reason for this.  I have been dealing with problems in my family life, and problems with my future.  Here is the 411:

Myself:  I am doing rather well, actually.  I have made many advances in my education, and social life.  I have cut ties to people that are extreme in every sense of the word, and (even though I have been gaining more weight), I have been eating better!  Life has never been better!

My education:  I AM ALMOST DONE!  I am amazed at how far I have come in my life.  I am hoping to attend University in Japan in the coming years.

My employment:  As of right now, I am technically not employed.  I have held two jobs in the past that did not turn out so well.  As of right now, I sort of work for PD Staffing, and they send me wherever they need within a 50 mile radius of my home, but other than that, I don't have a job.  However, next summer I am going home to Alaska to do some mining work for $4600 for 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

My collection:  This is probably what you all came here to see.  My collection.  It hasn't really grown, or shrank.  I got a neighborhood kid interested in Archie, but that's about as far as its gone.  My problem is, that I plan on living in a different country every 2 years (or less), and cannot have much stuff.  Luckily for me, I am a datahoarder, so I have a digital copy of everything I physically own (yes, including most of my archies).  At a point, I hope to scan what I don't already have a digital copy of, and make a copy of it myself!  I am currently at 41TB of stuff, and climbing by 3TB a month!

Moving:  As of this time, I don't have any concrete plans of moving.  However, in 2019, I plan to move to Japan.  I have not decided where to live there, but I am sure I will be able to choose soon.

Travel:  GOOD NEWS!  I should be able to go on a service mission through ANY church to ANY of the places that were battered by Hurricane Irma, to help rebuild for the people that live there.  I hope to leave in December, but this can change.

That's about it.  Questions?  Thoughts on my life thus far?

Hopefully they get a surplus in cash to release new titles, or rebooted ones, such as the actual "Archie's Madhouse", or maybe a new darker "Cosmo" series.

Cheryl learns that she will not be allowed to speak at Jason's memorial. Jughead and Kevin discover that Betty is going on a date with Trev for the purposes of gathering information, while Coach Clayton pits Archie and Reggie against each other for the coveted spot of team captain. Archie is introduced to Oscar, who asks him to write his songs down. Trev informs Betty that Jason had become much more secretive in the weeks before his death, and was rumored to be selling drugs. Jughead suggests searching the Blossom family mansion for clues. Archie injures his hand during practice, and confesses to Veronica that he feels torn between pursuing his music or football. While cleaning the diner, Hermoine finds a box with a snake inside it, a warning from the Serpents. Cheryl attends the memorial wearing a white dress (the one she wore when Jason died), and breaks down during her address. Betty and Jughead meet Jason's grandmother, who mistakes her for Polly and tells her not to let Penelope know that she and Jason were engaged. Betty learns that her family has long hated the Blossoms since their great-grandfather cheated them out of their fortune years ago. Archie is named captain, but turns it down to focus on his music. Jughead and Polly deduce that Hal is responsible for stealing the evidence.

Of course I will try to get all the Digests, but Money is tight.  However, Post Falls library has this thing setup so that way you can either come in and drop off some Archie Digests, or Take some free of charge, and you never have to return them!  Love that, last time I went, I came back with maybe 7-8 Digests.  Almost got a complete collection of the 75th anniversary digests from that.  Only missing #2 and the latest (my mother bought me #5 for V-day)!

Quote from: Alexandra Cabot
... (snip)...      Frankly, I don't see the point of Archie Comics without Montana/DeCarlo/etc. art style.
This in a nutshell.  No one wanted or needed New Coke, either. I understand sales were slugggish, but from my outsiders perspective the fault lies more with ACP management than the creative staff.

Oh Christ, don't even REMIND me about New Coke!  That stuff was terrible!

From Bleeding Cool, dated 2-16-17...

We’ve been wondering what Archie Comics may be replacing Sonic The Hedgehog with…

In a press release, and probably being talked about at ComicsPRO right now, Marvel and Archie have announced a publishing collaboration. No, not Punisher Meets Archie 2, but Marvel Comics Digest, a collection of Marvel’s all-ages titles packaged in a digest format and sold on the newsstand, in “big box” stores as well as comic retailers. Six to be published each year, with four in 2017 starting with MARVEL COMICS DIGEST: Starring The Amazing Spider-Man.

Others starring Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the X-Men are to follow.

Could have something to do with Marvel's sales being the worst they've had in years right now. And just to clarify, I believe they're saying "six" issues "to be published each year", not six ongoing digest titles.

Here are my thoughts:

Cheryl's a bitch to Veronica's mom and Veronica, but it turns out that she was right to be suspicious of Hermione.

LOL at Cheryl inviting herself to sit with Veronica at the drive-in. (And Cheryl sucking on that Twizzler / Red Vine was yummy.) I guess, for all of her talk about wanting Veronica to remember her place, she isn't ashamed to be seen hanging out with her, not even on the back of a pick-up truck.

I expected some kind of Cheryl/Veronica scene after Cheryl sent Kevin away for snacks, but nothing happened.

Why, why, WHY did Betty take the gun home with her?! (Fun fact: I wrote a fanfic back in 1999 in which Betty bought a gun and hid it in her dresser drawer, but at least that was somewhat justified - if ill-conceived.)

So Cheryl and Kevin definitely drive. Heck, Cheryl had TWO driving scenes in this episode. I guess the show really is saying they turned 16 over the summer before sophomore year. Did anyone here know any kids in that situation in high school?

So I guess Ms. Grundy is gone. I actually didn't mind the storyline, even though some people found it squicky. Then again, I ship Cybersix/Lori. Anyone remember "Cybersix"?

Jughead's a movie buff. This is consistent with his portrayal on "Archie's Weird Mysteries" - but broader. On that show, he was just into horror movies.

Betty keeps a diary. Does anyone know any teens today that keep handwritten diaries?

My son is 16 and he has friends with their licenses as sophomores. Like Kevin, they borrow their wheels from their parents.

They have their license at the beginning of their sophomore year?

Some. Yes.

I got my license in senior year.  Then again, I was 16 that year.  I planned on getting it a year earlier, but couldn't due to obligations in my family

All About Archie / Riverdale Episode 4
« on: February 17, 2017, 03:41:27 AM »

Synopsis: Jughead discovers an anonymous buyer for the drive-in plans to tear it down and launches a battle to keep it open; Betty's friendship with Archie takes a hit after she uncovers shocking information about Miss Grundy's past. Meanwhile, Veronica confronts her mother about a suspicious meeting between her and a shady Southside Serpent; and after uncovering Betty's diary, Alice seizes the opportunity to destroy Archie's golden-boy image.

Review:  Aside from the anti gun Propaganda, this was a good episode.  The ending surprised me, as I never really thought of Jug as living at the drive in.  He homeless now.  His father is a gang banger.  Wonder what next week will be like!

In my 11 years of loving Archie Comics, one thing has become apparent to me.  They are not so family friendly anymore.

I'm not heteronormative so I don't really care about Archie Comics being family friendly (a lot of people read it for innuendo anyways), but it's transformed into something it wasn't before and something completely alienating to it's original core audience which is pretty bad imo.  There's a way to expand your market without destroying everything.  Marvel Comics made similar mistakes recently too, and now they're back tracking like crazy to keep their old fans because the comics side of their business was tanking hardcore.

In my opinion, I don't really see Marvel backtracking as you say.  I see them wandering into uncharted territory, and loosing a LOT of subscribers!

In my 11 years of loving Archie Comics, one thing has become apparent to me.  They are not so family friendly anymore.  Sure, the digests might be, but how often do we see new content in those that have quite a few sexual innuendos?  Also, they are even reprinting some of the Reboot stuff in the digests (though that's not so obvious to a casual).  Hell, they are even releasing a digest (finally a single) that will (most likely) contain nothing but rebooted content.  I feel like the show (like the reboot) is a last ditch attempt to the company.  And with Sonic not going to be published here real soon (sonic makes up quite a bit of revenue), I'm not sure where the company will go from here.  Sure, we have what, 8 digests now (including the Riverdale one), but how long do you see some of those lasting?  Sure, one could argue that while sales on some are steady, most of the sales are declining.  I mean, the 75th anniversary digest is supposed to end its run at Issue #12 (no big surprise).  The Riverdale one, I'm not so sure about.  It could get 1 issue, or 10 or 20 or it could last a decade.  I don't know!

Lets talk about the other Digests now.

Archie Double Digest: Issue #277
Betty & Veronica Double Digest: Issue #252
World of Archie Double Digest: Issue #67
Jughead & Archie Double Digest: Issue #25
B&V & Friends Double Digest Issue #253
Archie Funhouse Double Digest Issue #25
75th Anniversary Jumbo Digest Issue #7
Riverdale Digest: Issue #Upcoming

Those are what we have so far for the digests.  How far they are going to go, I do NOT know.  As for the Floppies?

Riverdale: Issue #Upcoming
Archie: Issue #18
Betty & Veronica: Issue #3
Jughead: Issue #13
Josie and the Pussycats: Issue #5
Little Archie: Issue #Upcoming
Afterlife with Archie: Issue #12
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Issue #8
Reggie and Me: Issue #3

There are also a lot of One shots coming out too.  ACP just signed a deal with WB for more comics and shows (but who knows if that'll follow through).  I'm still holding out for a Dilton and Me floppy!

One more thing before I go.  I have created a Discord for this server.  Not sure how many of you would want to join, but I will leave the link here for whomever wants it:

Alright! Love the Moose special.

And could Betty & Veronica come out before the next Afterlife be in April? It's the ultimate tortoise vs turtle race reaching it's conclusion!! :)

From what I've been reading, Betty and Veronica have already "come out".  ;D
