  • DeCarlo Rules: @Kallell - Right. That's what I meant. The solicitations that came OUT for the months of November, December, and January... as Diamond Comics Distribution dates their catalogs. And those ACP comics digests solicited in those catalogs would indeed have shipping dates in the months of January, February, and March.  Which means ALL the issues of Archie, World of Archie, Betty and Veronica, and B & V Friends in those solicitations are JUMBO COMICS digests. Unlike those titles, Riverdale Comics Digest, Marvel Comics Digest, and Archie and Me Comics Digest haven't varied in their format from one issue to the next.

  • Archie Comics Collector(Kalell): Very interesting observation DeCarlo Rules. Actually December 2017 was the last month in which there was still three Digest formats: Annual, Comics Double Digest and a Jumbo Comics Digest. As I looked through Jan, Feb and March solicits it seems that the main two formats are Comics Digest 128 pager: Archie and Me and the rest of the main Archie Digests will just be Jumbo Comics Digest 192 pagers. They seem to be doing away with the Annuals and Comics Double Digests for now.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Looking back through the ACP solicitations from November, December and January, it just dawned on me that EVERY regular digest title solicted (except for Archie and Me Comics Digest, Riverdale Comics Digest, and Marvel Comics Digest) is a JUMBO COMICS Digest (192 pages). Are Jumbo Comics Digests the new permanent format? It sure looks that way.

Archie Jumbo Double Digest 285 has an interesting story called "Snowbound". It's what I call an "Action Archie" story, you know, the adventure ones that have Goldberg illustrating where Archie is in danger, or fighting some really nasty bad guys who want to off him, those stories. Here, however, it's done by DeCarlo....

Cute little B&V DeCarlo-drawn story added to my third album! Be sure to use the directional sort in the lower right corner to read it from left to right (A-Z). Enjoy!

No more Archie and Me digest!  >:(  Why? Those stupid Archie Babies! I hate them!  >:(  I'd sooner read Katy Keene than that drivel!  :tickedoff:

I guess they must have figured -- it worked for Disney Babies and Baby Looney Tunes, so why not?

But I totally agree -- of all the many creatively bankrupt concepts ACP has ever generated, Archie Babies has to rank as the absolute worst (and this from a company that brought out comics based on Koosh-Kins...) Yes, I am done with Archie and Me Comics Digest.

The Archie-centric digest titles (as opposed to B&V) have really reached a nadir lately. They have they dropped any variety or reprints of interesting or little-seen series, apart from the drivel mentioned above. I guess they must really be desperate, since they've re-instituted the free digital comic giveaways after two years, with no fanfare whatsoever. These are apparently now under the title Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest.
Now, here I could go for the free stuff. Is the free digital on their site?

This is from Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #285, the first digest issue to appear in 2018.

The free digital comic is Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest #35.

All About Archie / Re: Weird Archie Comics Panels/Storylines
« on: December 29, 2017, 06:13:29 PM »

Here's one panel I just randomly found in one of my old digests, and it isn't a photo shopped one. I did a double-take when I saw it:

Trump seems to be mentioned, or appear, in comic books lately even more than Obama ever did (and his presence was relatively conspicuous). Indeed, there's practically an entire subgenre now of Trump comics. Here's a short list of recently noted solicitations:

ANTARCTIC PRESS:
TRUMP VS CLINTON: UNCIVIL WAR COLORING BOOK
   TRUMP VS TIME LINCOLN #1
(ONE SHOT)
HOW THE TRUMP STOLE CHRISTMAS (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP #1 (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP: A MAN-CHILD COVFEFE! #1 (ONE SHOT)
THE TREMENDOUS TRUMP: WORLD WAR T #1 (ONE SHOT)
TRUMP: PUTIN ON THE HITS #1 (ONE SHOT)

DC COMICS:
   MAD ABOUT TRUMP TP

DRAWN & QUARTERLY:
   THE UNQUOTABLE TRUMP GN

FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS:
   TRUMP'S A-B-C HC

IDW:
SH*T MY PRESIDENT SAYS: THE ILLUSTRATED TWEETS OF DONALD TRUMP HC

KEENSPOT ENTERTAINMENT:
   TRUMP'S TITANS #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS THE MANDELA EFFECT #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS FIDGET SPINNER #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VS MARK ZUCKERBERG #1
TRUMP'S TITANS VOL 01: SICK OF WINNING
TP
Yes, President Obama had the nerve to just try and do his job in being a President, as opposed to our current Narcissistic Ninny in the Oval Office. That's why Trump gets the comics to me. Sure, Obama made the talk show circuits while President, but he did it with style and dignity. Now? It's a freakin' reality show 24/7...

General Discussion / Re: Sears/Kmart
« on: December 18, 2017, 06:42:41 PM »

...And the suffering continues:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/sears-is-teetering-on-the-edge-of-bankruptcy-and-kmart-could-be-its-first-casualty/ar-BBGO9co?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

Yeah, I saw this yesterday on my phone. I was kinda surprised when they closed the Kmart that I used to work at, since it was supposedly one of the better stores, but it looks like the company would rather close Kmart stores over Sears stores.

By the way, from the third-quarter results posted on November 30, they had a net loss of $558,000,000.
Makes one wonder what their motivation to keep going is. One cannot keep going after losing so much money, they just can't--unless I'm missing something.... ???

All About Archie / Re: Trula Twyst (Jughead's nemesis)
« on: November 10, 2017, 07:51:36 AM »

I think a lot of his attitude towards women comes from seeing how Veronica (and others like Cheryl) treats Archie like crap even though he is too much of a lapdog for her (her fickleness doesn't help either).
Excellent point. Jughead sees his buddy as very pliable to girl's "wiles" (also one his strengths with them-he doesn't want to hurt any, though he does it when he sees other girls behind their backs), and he doesn't want to be treated like that. My deal with Trula is that she doesn't seem to have any flaws, which is of course not true. I seem to recall the story where Juhead stayed at her home when he was trying to prove a point to his parents about staying under their roof. We found out a little about Trula, where her parents were divorced. I think DR pointed out when she couldn't control them not staying together as a child, and she's been trying to make up for it ever since through her psychology.

I like a story where Trula gets hers, such as the one where she spreads rumors about Betty and Ronica, reversing what most people usually thought of the girls, saying Betty isn't as nice as she seems, while Ronica is much nicer than she appears, all to aid her study about people's reactions. Jughead got wind of it, and in the end, he poured some food on her in the cafeteria, and left her, all while doing it in a "gentle" manner.

I think that Jughead's friendship with Betty is the most genuine outside of Archie. Recall at the end of the classic Archie story "Decisions" (in my second album, near the front). He told Betty if he kissed any girl, it would be Betty. He also said if Archie has to like a girl, he'd prefer Betty for him, and Jughead would approve. Throughout the years, Jughead has virtually almost always helped Betty over Ronica in Betty's battles for Archie's attentions. In the most recent new Archie book, Jughead recalled a memory when they were all children, concerning Betty: Hot Dog being hit by a car, and was struggling to survive while they were all at the veterinarian's office. Archie, not understanding (though he tries), said the worse thing possible while comforting Jughead: "I know how you feel". Jughead dismissed Archie and Betty in a huff. Betty came back later and sat with Jughead while he worried about Hot Dog. He knows Betty's a good person, throughout both the classic and the new versions. That hasn't changed....

All About Archie / Re: Trula Twyst (Jughead's nemesis)
« on: November 07, 2017, 03:31:44 PM »
Why? Because she's the only person capable of getting the best of Jughead?  ;D
I think she gets too much the best of Jughead. Trula seems to do no wrong with him, completely crippling Jughead, seemingly almost all the time. Then again, Jughead allows himself to let her really get in his head, and he gets riled up, which makes it worse...
