  • DeCarlo Rules: I thought the ad money was only a piece of the webcomics big picture, with the other pieces being commission work and print collections of past webcomics, and word-of-mouth that leads to paying assignments from established publishers. It seems like Gisele just has too much talent to stay out of the game for long, and if nothing else, minus the expenses of hosting and time spent creating webcomics, she ought to be able to make a living just doing covers (which pay better than interior pages), if nothing else.

  • irishmoxie: Apparently the ad money for webcomics couldn't pay her living expenses anymore.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Aw, dang. I hope Gisele gets a regular print comic series going. Hopefully that's the only reason she's quitting webcomics.

  • DeCarlo Rules: I hope they continue reprinting those Jughead stories from the early 2nd series issues (late 1980s) in World of Archie digest. Maybe not, because that was a special Time Police section, but I can always hope. Loverboy Jughead, Skatepunk Jughead, Snax Headjug. The weirder the better.
    November 06, 2017, 09:29:09 AM
  • Jabroniville: The next issue was a pretty great one- Jughead swears off girls by writing songs about how awful women are, which makes the girls at the shows fall in LOVE with him. Eventually, Betty & Ronnie refuse to play another sexist number, and he's finally consoled by ETHEL of all people (who really got the short end of the stick with the Debbie/Joani arc).
    November 06, 2017, 03:58:39 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: The way that I figure it is that January was a Time Marshall, and Jughead was a mere Deputy, so he probably didn't have the clearance level or Need To Know status for her to tell his about the multiverse. Although he could presumably have figured it out on his own, based on some of the Time Police missions he was involved in.

Only see the digests here at the front checkouts at grocery stores like Foodland and Safeway.

Lots of opportunities and openings in retail.....so probably there is an even better job coming your way soon. If you enjoy retail work (and it isn't for everyone for sure) you'll find the right spot. I was in retail for the same company for thirty-five years and enjoyed my job, but retirement is even better. :coolsmiley:

Okay...here is one of my favorite Deja Vu combos. Give good old Archie 10 years to rethink it and he opts for both Veronica and Betty :)

And same gag....different books and characters. Sometimes these are almost like those spot the difference puzzles.

All About Archie / Deja Vu
« on: April 14, 2017, 09:24:14 PM »
One of my pleasures in collecting Archie Comics is finding those I call the Deja Vu issues. It is a fairly usual practice for Archie Comics to use covers from the Golden Age to repeat in the Silver Age. Usually the same gag and cast with some updates in the look. I think the theory was that the average enthusiasm for comic fans was 10 years or less, so there was no need not to recycle a good cover with some updates. Here is Pep 72 from March 1949 and Archie 120 from June 1961.

Did anyone else have the pleasure of enjoying the Freddy the Pig series in their younger days? Absolutely wonderful books by Walter R Brooks and all were illustrated by Kurt Wiese. Great adventures for younger readers, but still stand up nicely when you read them again as adults.

Well so long Ronnie. I hope you and Alexandra find some board where foul language and negative attitudes are more appreciated and you'll have a good time.

Best of luck.

I'll echo that thought....good job. And now we can go back to enjoying discussing Archie comics and knock off the drama. The return of civility will be a refreshing change.

Uncle Scrooge? Good stuff always and a natural for an Archie reader. Try Super Duck some time.

Sigh and poor Alexandra keeps mistaking rudeness as humor. I wonder why her karma just keeps going negative. Perhaps she just needs to find a board dedicated to herself. Seems she is quickly wearing out her welcome here.

Why not try being a little more considerate and you might fit in a bit better. Worth a try.

Well I hadn't thought about those cafeterias in stores for quite a while, but it was the norm in the sixties/early seventies. K-Mart usually had the as did my old employer Murphy Mart in Bethel Park PA. Even Sears had one at the anchor Sears at the mall. Usually pretty cheap and mostly decent food. Sort of good the way food in bowling alleys tend to be good. Often it was in a raised area a couple of feet off the store sales floor so you could gaze out at your next purchases as you grazed on the food.

Wow....sounds like a mystery for the Dover Boys:  The Case of the Phantom Issue.

I don't have a copy of #1, but wonder if there is any mention of the next exciting issue in that book.

I have found no reference to it anywhere other than the Overstreet Guide. It lists #1 as September 1950 and #2 as 1950, but no month. I've tried to google images for Adventures of the Dover Boys and come up with a lot of photos of #1, but not a sign of a second issue.

My collection of Archie includes a lot of esoteric titles, but this may not be one that ever existed.
