All About Archie / I'm here.
April 05, 2020, 12:42:32 AM
I haven't been able to sign in for a long long while on my phone, I just can't figure out how to do it. I have moved, too, to Portland, OR -  and, I've been having extreme problems regarding my health and things stolen from me :-[ and I haven't been able to go to a comics shop since before I came here :( - I am pretty handicapped , too :o. The only comics pubs I've acquired recently have been three books I ordered from Walmart,Com - Spider-Man " Life Story " tpb, a 2010s " Pearls Before Swine " book, and this big-sized hardcover of : Little Lulu " from Drawn & Quarterly.
I am, rare for me, on a desktops now, so I can sign in. BTW, I still think you should bring back the link to the daly strip ~ Yeah, I know it's reprints ~ Come ON!!!!!!!!!!! :2funny:

All About Archie / " SUGAR SUGAR " 50th Anniversary
August 06, 2019, 08:36:12 PM
Earlier to-day I l\watched on YouTube a (basically) complete August 1969 episode of Dick Clark's " AMERICAN BANDSTAND " TV series ~ which, in showing its Top Ten...had " Sugar Sugar " at #1 ;D :D !!!!!!!!! And played it IN FULL! :smitten:
I was going to link to it but I can't find it now (fap) ~ The few minutes of the Top Ten and " S., S. " was up as a separate , short, post, but I didn't want to bother with that.

Are the standard comic-book format comic books of Betty & Veronica (which comic-book print new stories by Parent that also appear ~ seperately?? ~ in the digests) still coming out?
When I moved recently, I asked my new LCS to make that franchise something in my box ~ by I have seen none since then, and I thought that...

General Comics / MAD magazine discontinuation
July 12, 2019, 07:10:35 PM
In case it's escaped someone here ~ MAD magazine has announced its , essentially, discontinuation after 67 years :'( . To be absolutely precise, briefly, the magazine will switch over entirely to reprints inside and greatly curtail its distribution ~ Comicbook.com has the full story ~ This is almost certainly a by-stages pulling of the plug ~ Though DC is claiming now that new annuals will continue. Anyway, seems to me like a would-be corporate " keep the trademark alive " strategem.
An era has ended :-X !!!!!!!!!!!

All About Archie / Anachronism Patrol
October 05, 2018, 10:39:57 PM
Let's look at reprinted Archie stories and wonder, from the references in them, whether they've been revised. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :smitten: :D

In B&V FRIENDS #264, a Dan DeCarlo-penciled story has Veronica looking for a collectible
car on the Web. Dan D. passed before the 20th Century was
over, and had left Archie on bad terms by then. Would a story from earlier in the 90s have dropped the term/concept? I was rather late, I suppose, getting on the Web - 2000-2001 - so that no doubt affects my viewpoint.
A clearly early-60s story (Archie in letter/bowtie outfit) drops " groovy " as a slang phrase, in a panel showing
a big pre-'66-style big-finned car, as a matter of fact! Was " groovy " really Archie-level slang then?
  A " Gag Bag " has Archie/Jughead using a quadrophonic record player! :2funny:

Other Media / The " Carrie " Riverdale Episode
September 30, 2018, 08:24:11 AM
I thought I posted about the " Riverdale " episode where they did a production of the musical bases on Stephen King's " Carrie ", but I searched for it and I could not find it :-[ .

Did anyone here see this episode of " RIVERDALE " where they put on a production of the musical based on Stephen King's "Carrie "?
I just found out about it recently, when I saw a vinyl LP of the soundtrack of the episode at Urban Outfiters. with a bonus track. I was going to ask about it here but I ended up buying the LP before I did that :) . I haven't played it or even opened it yet, as I don't have a turntable NOW - but I am preparing to get one (Not just for the Carrie LP, for stuff in general.) - my first in YEARS and years! :smitten: ;D
I presume there is a shorter CD and digital download as well :buck2: ?

All About Archie / Sizes & formats
August 28, 2018, 04:42:37 AM
I was not aware, as it says here, that the $2.99 BETTY AND VERONICA: FRIENDS FOREVER was reprints! From the digests?
For its size, I had never seen a 20-pages-plus-cover comic book before, I think, from a still technically ' big ' company. :P
#9
Okay - HOW MANY FLIPPING VERSIONS, ALREADY, HAVE their been of the " serious " super-heroes published by ACP have there been? I was tending to call them " the MLJ heroes, yes, evem including the ones who originated after the MLJ name was given up, but I saw a Wikipedia entry saying " Red Circle " was the prefered generic phrase. Which one?

General Discussion / It,s all about me
January 26, 2017, 12:46:23 PM
I haven,t been bacck here for a while , I know .
For one , I REALLY have tended to have difficulty getting enough Internet time - and , I have REALLY been having health issues :'(  (as well as mucho financial/possessions ones :'( ) - And , I have bought very few comics :'(  , and quite few Archiees - Partly I,ve just gotten out of the habit - Here in San Francisco now there is only one cmic store I know how to get to easily and they are fairly small-scale - I think they give the New Riverdale 32s a fair play , in fact but I have never bought any 32s of BV , Jug , or Reg - I have rather enjoyed the issues I,ve bought of the Archie 32 , but my money/transportation issues and maybe feeling : it,s a new era : and sort of thinking : Well , mmaybe I,ll train myself to buy or library0=-read something so obviously designed for book collection : about the new Archie -=- Oh , and there,s my health issues . Too .
  It,s my birthday today :) ;D .
Did this site shut down AGAIN in the months since I was last here ? (Actually , as far as my  degree of involvement with this site goes , in my years coming here I think I,ve had a tendency to come here and put up a lot of posts , maybbe try to cover up the entire : Recent Topics : column - but then not come back for a long time .
I am actually writing this from a hospital , where I,ve been essentially the last week getting treated for an effect of my Congestive Heart Failure (CGF) - that leads me to massively baloon waterweight , from a normal 270s pounds (I am not a slim person :o ) , 5, 9: ,I was again up to 335 pounds this time - it had happened before , 325-ish then :'(  and took much Lazik , making me massively - Well , you know :-X .
I also wal=lk using a crutch , and , wrse , hobble along really slowly/tending t get tired due to the CHF :'(  . I have only 7&1/2 toes due to diabetic infections a couple years back :'( . I have COPD of the lungs , too , making (Renal kidney failure too) me at times , cough a great deal :'( .
I could talk some about my financial problems too :'( .
If I am in this hospital tonight , oddly enough , their TV system may not get the CW station in San Francisco , it seems it gets the : big : broadcast and a lotta cable stations but not these : second division : broadcast stations !

Through the Decades / Still GA reprints ?
July 09, 2016, 10:17:38 PM
I bought ARCHIE #8 recently , and , contrary to what I had internalized , it still had Golden Age Archie reprints .
  I was glad .  8)
Will it keep having them ? Are these stories which have already been reprinted in Archie book collections (thus already " mastered " , if you will , for reprinting) ?
Do the Jughead and B&V titles feature reprints too ?

All About Archie / " Going steady " in Riverdale
July 09, 2016, 10:14:23 PM
I recently got a couple more recent digests at the same area Safeway I mentioned I had been meaning to write about them but I don't have them mear me now  >:( .
However the odd thing was that in one digest TWO DIFFERENT STORIES ! referred to the concept of " going steady " - and they weren't Fifties/early Sixties stories - Really , who talks about " going steady " anymore ?Or since thelate Sixties , iF that ? - but , one was the , I believe , second part of that booklength first Archie-Valerie story from a few years ago in which the Lodges at the movies see Archarie and , noting that Archie is not G. S. w/Betty or Ronnie , decode not to get involved .
Another one was likely a 00s Satn Goldberg Betty tory from the old 32-page title too it had Bett thinking " Archie is finally going to ask me to  go steady ! " !
  GOING STEADY  :D ????????????????????

All About Archie / Mr. and Mrs. Lodge
July 09, 2016, 10:03:17 PM
When I was a kid stories almost never showed Mrs. Lodge .
Really (I'm 56) ~ these 60s (reprinted in the 70s I guess more than as new ones)/70s stories made so little use of Mrs. Lodge that you could easily think that Mr. Lodge was one of the many widowed daddies that 1960s situation comedies (Brian Keith , Fred MacMurray...) so liked ~ I only - I THINK - remember one vintage story showing Mrs. Lodge and it was version considerably different from the " silver fox/stylish woman of a certain age " that the 00s comics showed !
I recall this story showing Mr. Lodge , in a nostalgic mood , remembering his young married years , when he lived in a pretty basic apartment and was out of town (As a salesman ?) a lot of the time ~ He recalled the little Veronica rushing to meet him when he came back ! Mrs. Lodge was at home , of course , TC-ing of B .
This was before Archie came up w/this concept of the Lodges always having been rich , and having come across to America on the Mayflower which I ran into again in a recent digest (However , I remember an Artie Andrews story showing a child Mr. Lodge moving to Riverdale at modest/perhaps - upperish ? - middle-class but aspiring level so who knows .) !
IIRC , furthermore , this story showed a modern-day Mrs. Lodge - who was depicted as an overweight , rather empty-headed , society woman concerned with trivial stuff (the Margaret Dumont - Charlotte Greenwood ? - arche/sterotype) with the obvious implication?? that she and Mr. Lodge had rather grown apart over the years .

Since so much stuff was destroyed in the old board's collapse I fuguure we - I - might as well re-post old threads/topics .

...Business/structure/planning-wise , I mean .
Has it been about two years since I was here ? It's been , stretching , about two years that my health , at least in part , has kept be bouncing around along the coastal Pacific Northwest , Santa Cruz to Olympia , Bellingham , Seattle , Santa Cruz again and back to San Francisco .
About two years back , IIRC , Archie had cut down on digests a bit , and was down to just one Archie 32-pager , the ARCHIE monthly .
I had found out that they were still publishing modern-style humorous/cartoon Archie in the digests , while doing the " new approach " in the 32-pagers (Of which I have only seen the " ARCHIE " title - I have had #s 1 , 2 , and 7 , which last came off like the end of a story arc , but I see the first TPB in of #s1-6 - I suppose they had planned to do the standard length already ?) . It seemed a bit sad , but okay (That make any sense ????) .
But now , is Archie-the-company apparently planning to move away from new stories from the digests ENTIRELY , and bet the farm ~ I suppose ~ 100% on the new approach , and I guess hope that the " RIVERDALE " TV series will be the cavalry ? (I tend maybe doubt that modern-day TV shows help the sales of the base comic all that much , it isn't the 60s or even the 80s anymore .)
So Dan Parent ~ going through already-bought scripts ~ and semi-retired Bob Bolling are ALL the creators working on digest material now ?
I bought the first couple Chilling Sabrinas , but the endless delays at least contributed to me falling off . I never got on board with Afterlife With . There's that lawsuit/sexual harassment thing between Archie-owner factions , too ~ I don't know whether I ever mentioned this here , but HARPER'S magazine put  a brief bit about it i their front-of-the-book kin d of " oddball bits " section a bit back , thy were , obviously , amused by the whole concept , as many " normals " would be .

All About Archie / Retail reports
June 13, 2016, 02:32:06 PM
Let's make this an all-purpose thread for reporting our sightings , etc. of Archie stuff ~ especially the ACTUAL comic books and digests (I guess many?? people here would tend to reserve " comic books " for " standard " 32-pagers so thinking of that I wrote it that way)  :2funny: !
I bought a Jughead and Archie?? at a Safeway here in San Francisco t'other day , " the Castro Safeway " . They also had World Of Archie , IIRC . I was going to look up the last issue of the 32-page " last " B&V series ~ but this computer workshop's computers blocks comics.org !!!!!!!!!!! FRICKEN FRATTEN RITZEN RATTEN .
Can anyone direct me , please , to a site where the last few ishes of the now-discontinued last B&V covers are up , please ? :'(

I put a fairly lengthy ost on this subject up but my " Time to stay logged in" expired on me !  :'( FRICKEN FRACKEN RICKEN RATTEN !  :knuppel2: :-X

All About Archie / The structure of the digests ?
June 11, 2016, 04:06:41 PM
Once and for all , is the balance of the Archie digests , in general ~ Or , HAS it been , since I get the impression that , in my absence , something has gone a little rotten in Mamaroneck business-wise !!!!!!!!!!! Has it , up until Donald Trump threw his hairpiece in the ring ;D , say , the recent past ~ Have the Archie digests generally had (1) The first story and (2) the last story being new ones ?
Plus maybe some other full-fleged stories , and some filllers/gags of some kind .
What has the general balance/placing of new against old material in the digests been ?
#19
Is Bob Bolling still working for Archie ? That digest I mentioned buying recently had a (I presume) new story by him , the last one ~ If Bob is still active , I think tht might mke hime the only still-active Silver Age artist !!!!!!!!! (Of course , Stan Lee ~ and , actually , Roy Thomas ~ ar still active , as far as WRITERS go... :) )

Feedback/Support / Was there a , er , revamp...
June 11, 2016, 03:40:43 PM
......here , in the time I was gone ?
Meaning , were a lot of old posts deleted/gotten rid of ?
I remember this long-running " Home events " (or something like that) line , in which I talked about having Aspergers' and someone else spoke about his difficulties with his parents , especially his father's dementia and death . My !!!!!!!!! Cheerful , eh ??? ??? ??? ?? ::)
