I know most of y'all are into classic Archie only and a lot of y'all didn't get into RIVERDALE.

I've bought all of the reboots except B&V Vixens.  I actually thought the Mark Waid written Archie was pretty good.  Not great, but some issues were, to me, well above average, while others were dull.  I loved Afterlife With Archie and liked Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but of course we know what happened with those.

This latest news about the main title, ARCHIE, though, is too much. To cancel the Waid one, then have this bizarre Archie 1941 series that's NOT drawn by a classic artist like Jeff Shultz or Dan Parent, and then follow it up with something that looks so non-descript and non-Archie is just weird. It's almost irrelevant to me what it's going to contain or what the quality ends up being.  It just seems like the company is drifting with no idea what to do next.

I understand why that would be the case. They own characters that most people find outdated and irrelevant and it can't be easy figuring out what to do.

Unlike a lot of y'all, I absolutely loved Riverdale, the TV show. The first season was awesome and the second season had plenty of good moments. But now I'm reading there's going to be some kind of cult leader.  I'll give season 3 a chance but it sounds like I won't be making it through the whole season if it's going to be about some stupid cult.

I've been an Archie fan for LONG time. Some people on here know that comics made by Archie Comics are the only comics I've ever read.  I'll continue to buy collections produced by ACP if they're done well and contain at least some material I don't already have.

I'm perfectly willing to jump on board if they come up with new ideas that look compelling but for the first time in my life I'm not subscribing to at least one new title of theirs and I'm cancelling my subscription to the flagship title.

I trust that if anything good happens, the well educated fans on this forum will let us know!

I was never a fan of Betty and Veronica as biker chicks to begin with. I always thought of these ladies as too classy for that trash, so I'm not terribly disappointed that this title didn't work out.

I haven't written anything in thread in a while. It's hard when you don't have a computer. And I had to use my phone. I have been to the library a lot so at least I can try to highlight what I write like how I use to in the old days. Without a computer I haven't been on Twitter. I miss it. But what can you do.

I miss you on Twitter.  You can't do Twitter on your phone?  I use the Twitter app on my phone.

You know I read the news that a new miniseries called Archie 1941 will replace the Archie main series which is about to be in hiatus which I don't know 'why?'As it tells about the Archie gang in a 1941 setting after they graduate from high school reaching towards  adulthood as they deal with life in the  town of Riverdale when their country heads towards world war II.
Now my opinion is that I appreciate that the miniseries will take place in a year the character debuted however I think it should have  been the retelling of Archie and his gang earlier tales during the 1940s or least take place in the middle of the 40s and the 50s which was the era where the characters gain their popularity.
Still maybe we will see what the miniseries like as we take a look at the 1941 version of the Archie characters dealing with life in world war 2 era ,And I wonder if the main Archie series will come back after the miniseries ended and see if it is ongoing or not.

I'm pretty sure the main title isn't selling much and that's why they're trying this miniseries, so in one way I wouldn't expect the main title back, BUT how would it look if Archie Comics isn't even publishing it's flagship title?  That would be an embarrassment.  Then again, they aren't publishing a regular Betty and Veronica or Jughead title either and the world hasn't ended.  As I said in an earlier post, I'm not sure there's anything they can do. I think to most folks, Archie just isn't compelling and doesn't relate to world. The TV show bought them some time, but it remains to be seen how much.

Nothing, really. Two titles are plenty. It would start to get to be overkill.

I agree.
Well now, we are four titles in to Archie Horror imprint - how is everyone feeling about the line so far? We have Afterlife with Archie, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Jughead: The Hunger, and now, Vamperonica. I have yet to read The Hunger, but I have been loving the rest - with Chilling being my favorite book by far. I do have a soft-spot for Witchy tales, though.

I'm waiting for the trade on Vampironica, but I've loved The Hunger so far!

All About Archie / 'Archie 1941' comic

Not sure how I feel about this throwback five issue miniseries being published.

The original 1940s Archie Comics are not among my faves.  Mark Waid is writing it.  We'll see how it goes.

I really think in pushing hard for television adaptations like Riverdale and Sabrina, Jon Goldwater's true goal is to raise Archie's cultural awareness just high enough to attract a big media conglomerate as a buyer for ACP.

I would imagine he's got something like a hundred-million figure in mind for the sale of all ACP's intellectual property, but I bet if he got a serious offer about a third of that size, he'd sign on the dotted line and bail out next month -- if Nancy Silberkleit is willing to take her cut and walk.

Nancy might just block it for spite depending on her financial condition.

Just finished watching season 1 of Big Little Lies with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman among others.  GREAT show!

I can't really see returning to classic style helping all that much. It wasn't selling which is why the reboots happened to begin with.

I think to most people, Archie Comics are an anachronism.  Not sure there's much they can do except continue the gimmicks like horror, the tv show, and crossovers (Batman '66) until they run out of ideas.
#25
They will probably start a "Classic Archie" title published along side the current flagship title and if it sells as well or better, they'll discontinue the current one.

I will point out that "Your Pal Archie" was close to classic style and didn't sell.  And it was a great book in my opinion.

I don't but I sure wish he'd come back and make new ones!

Curiously, while the original dates of publication are sourced for these stories, the actual titles and issue numbers of the comic books they appeared in do not appear in the credits in this trade collection. I've tried to source those comics here (with a couple of guesses when I couldn't confirm the original appearance for certain).

All of the stories (except for three Sabrina stories, one Josie story, and one Chuck Clayton story) feature The Archies, unless noted in the story titles above. Not a bad collection overall, but one could have hoped for more classic stories from the sixties and seventies... but actually, the best stories in this collection are the most recent ones from the 2010s. "Battle of the Bands", the two-parter from ARCHIE & FRIENDS #124-125 is kind of a slight story. Not bad per se as Archies stories go, if it were a standard 5 or 6-pager... maybe even a 12-pager. But at 44 pages, it takes up far too much space in this collection that could have been devoted to better stories. Since they did reprint both "The Archies Rockin' World Tour" 4-parter, and "Banded Together!" which preceded it, both of which advance the romance story of Archie and Valerie, they probably should have reprinted the whole "Archies and Josie & the Pussycats" multi-parter that kicked off the (then-)surprising love story, so you could see the whole thing (apart from the future timeline where Archie Marries Valerie, already reprinted in the "Rock and Roll Romance" trade collection). They could definitely have left out "Oh Solo Mio" (good story though it is), since that one appeared in both last Fall's BEST OF JOSIE trade collection, and last month's B&V FRIENDS JUMBO COMICS digest, and of course, the entire "Rockin' World Tour" arc appeared in its own trade collection back in December 2014 (under the slightly modified title ARCHIE - ROCKIN' THE WORLD!) as Volume 24 of the Archie & Friends All-Stars series (on better paper, too). As an aside, the previous collection's title modification was a result of there already having been a previous volume (No. 11) in the Archie & Friends All-Stars series released back in July of 2011, entitled ARCHIE: WORLD TOUR (which collected the multipart story from ARCHIE & FRIENDS #117-120).

Not bad, but not what I was expecting. I was expecting to see reprints of all those musical guest-stars not included in previous trades, like Lady Gaga, the Veronicas, and the School Gyrls, plus the usual stories where celebrity pop stars of the day are alluded to, but not named as such. While I was slightly underwhelmed, all things considered I guess I should just be grateful they didn't waste my time by reprinting that Archies one-shot from last year, and shut up and be happy about it.

I agree with everything you say about this. They could have done so much more AND I'm surprised they didn't reprint the Archies one-shot as well! I still think this format has a lot going for it and hope they'll make better use of it in the future.  The only consolation is I got this really cheap when Archie Comics sent me a "flash sale" email and I jumped on it. I'm glad I didn't have to pay a lot.  I DO love the bright cover though.

Yes, DCR, that's what I mean, the Blondie issue.  Sorry, I guess #7 is the next and final issue.

You just gotta love it when as a subscriber you wind up getting an issue weeks earlier than retail consumers. Doesn't happen for me with my digest subs all that often, but it DOES happen occasionally.

Yes, usually my subscription copies are almost EXACTLY 2 weeks late, except apparently when they announce the issue will be delayed 2 weeks, then you get it early!  Ha ha.

...Let me get this straight - the standard paper version of THE ARCHIES was available do a while - through bricks and mortar shops and thru Amazon - And,  I assume,  other Internet dealers who sell paper stuff? - but was WITHDRAWN FROM SALE for a while :crazy2: ? But now is available again? Ay Yi yi :idiot2: :buck2: !

I've only heard that on this message board.  I never found that to be the case anywhere else.  To make things more confusing, issue 7 is officially delayed by a couple of weeks until April 11th, but I got 2 copies of issue 7 with my subscription BEFORE the original publishing date of March 28th. I only have one subscription but Archie Comics has sent me 2 copies of the last few issues.

I think you must mean issue #6 - the Blondie issue, right?  So you have it? Still waiting on my copy of that issue with the Dan Parent variant cover ordered thru my LCS, but Diamond now lists the shipping date as April 11th. Shipping dates as originally solicited are often revised in later Diamond updates to retailers, a very common practice that affects nearly every publisher at one time or another. Diamond Comics issues shipping updates on a weekly basis.
