I've been fine with the Archie reboot, but I have to say I'm kind of surprised it's made it to issue 31.  I haven't looked at the sales, but I can't imagine they're that great these days.  Other than that, pretty standard stuff: overpriced digests that keep getting smaller and a horror title but NOT Afterlife or Sabrina and the last gasp of Cosmo and The Archies.  Oh yeah, and Vixens which I can't imagine will be long for this world either.

All About Archie / "The Archies" will end with issue #7
February 16, 2018, 12:31:14 PM
I can't say I'm surprised, although I've really enjoyed the book.  It's probably weak sales that's ending it (I haven't looked up the sales), but it also could be because after they got The Monkees and Blondie, they weren't able to get any more well known "guest" bands to appear in the book.

I can't imagine what the future is for the RIVERDALE comic title because while I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the stories, Thomas Pitilli's art is horrible in that book in my opinion.

I don't want to nix it, or throw cold water on anyone, but you know that ACP always seems to announce any new title as "ongoing"... but very few of them have turned out to be. Mostly they last just long enough to generate a trade paperback collection (5 issues), like the previously announced COSMO "ongoing" -- now downgraded to a 5-issue miniseries. That happened before with REGGIE & ME as well, and somehow it doesn't look like MIGHTY CRUSADERS and VIXENS are going to be continuing past their initial story arcs, either. So here's hoping that BETTY AND VERONICA FRIENDS FOREVER breaks the curse. Maybe the demand for more classic stories in the digest format is an indicator of the turning tide -- let's hope so.

Dan Parent already said on Facebook that it would be "at least 5", so you aren't really throwing cold water.  It's just reality.  If it sells they'll keep it.  If it doesn't they won't.  At least they're trying it!  I thought Your Pal Archie was awesome, but it didn't sell.  Maybe B&V can do better!

Dan Parent! Bill Gollher!

It says it's an ongoing.  Let's support this thing so it doesn't get Your Pal Archied.

This ROCKS!!!

Reviews have absolutely no bearing on whether a series continues as an ongoing title, or ends. Only sales.

Which is probably the same reason there was no solicitation for a fifth issue of MIGHTY CRUSADERS in the March 2018 ACP solicitations, as well.

Sadly I agree and if this continues Archie comics will go bankrupt unless it be saved when it is bought by IDW who publishes the classic strips or Warner bros since they broadcast the classic strips

Or unless they come out with a TV show that lasts at least 3 seasons and another one on Netflix.  That might help.

All About Archie / Archie April 2018 solicitations
January 24, 2018, 09:21:08 AM
I like the looks of Volume 3 of Archie's Big Book.  Volume 2 was Fantasy and those are my least favorite stories.  Volume 3 is Rock n Roll and those are some of my favorite stories.  Also, a Time Police trade paperback.  Pretty cool!

All About Archie / Jughead: The Hunger
January 21, 2018, 11:32:19 AM
I just read issue 2 of Jughead: The Hunger (3 if you count the "one shot").

This is a really good book and since Roberto isn't working on it, it's actually being published.

The Kennedys artwork is really good and for some reason Joe Eisma did the second half of this issue and his art is fine for this story too.

I actually thought the one shot wasn't that great but took a chance on the regular series and it's much improved over the one shot.

Good story and just enough humor.

I have no idea how it's selling but it's been a pleasant surprise.

I know I'll get killed for saying this but I'll say it anyway.....

There's absolutely nothing going on with ACP. ACP is dying if not already dead.

It's classic Archie or nothing.

Not for me.  I like the new books and RIVERDALE.  I love classic Archie too.  I like it all.

Still no Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Afterlife With Archie (aside from a trade collection).

I hope that Best of Betty and Veronica Vol 2 trade really happens this time, though.

General Discussion / Re: Sears/Kmart

That's a bummer. I remember going into a K-mart once and specifically asking a store clerk if they carried Archie digests, and the answer was "No", although that was a couple of years ago. I do remember seeing them about a year later in Walmart, but lately when I've been in there... once again, no Archie digests. Come to think of it, it's been a while since I've looked at Barnes & Noble, which was the only other place I knew of that I could reliably find them (other than special-ordering through my LCS) so who knows if B&N even carries them now. It would explain a lot.

Barnes and Noble does still carry all of the digests.  From what I can tell, though, at the one near my house, no one looks at them or buys them.

Wasn't "Passion Point" also a makeout spot on HAPPY DAYS? I admit my memory of the show is a little fuzzy after a few decades, but it immediately seemed to ring a bell. I don't recall ever seeing it in an Archie story, so I guess my memory was from the show.

I think that was Inspiration Point.

Apart from the reprint digests, just about EVERY Archie Comics brand (or imprint) has only one or two ongoing titles.
Riverdale TV series:
RIVERDALE
New Riverdale:
ARCHIE
THE ARCHIES
Archie Horror: (but they only come out with a one or two issues a year... which is stretching the definition of an "ongoing title")
AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE
CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA
JUGHEAD: THE HUNGER (*hasn't even come out yet, so hard to say if it'll be "ongoing" or not)
All-New Classic Archie:
YOUR PAL ARCHIE (not really an "ongoing" anyway)
Archie Alterniverse: (there's no real imprint for this one, so I just made one up)
BETTY & VERONICA: VIXENS (*hasn't even come out yet, so hard to say if it'll be "ongoing" or not)
Dark Circle:
THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS
Archie Action:
COSMO
Also, even though there might nominally be 3 "ongoing" titles (such as that is, for titles which rarely produce a new issue every 6 months or so) under the Archie Horror imprint, none of those titles take place in the same universe. You might also say that it's debateable as to whether even ARCHIE and THE ARCHIES are taking place in the same "universe".
So really, that's all Archie Comics publishes -- a bunch of different stand-alone comics which are independent and self-contained, and not related to any other titles.
*And by that I mean -- REGGIE AND ME was intended to be an ongoing title, but low preorders on the first couple of issues nixed that idea pretty fast, and it was downgraded to a 5-issue miniseries. That could happen to ANY of these announced-as-ongoing titles. Poor sales would result in turning it into a one-story-arc-only limited series, just enough to make up one trade collection.
Woah! You're not kidding. it's like there is only one book in each brands though some of the brands have 2 or 3 books  especially that I think that Archie horror should be a sub brand to the Archie Alterniverse (which you called it ) since it takes place in the horror version of the Archie universe  and I thought the Dark circle title will be ongoing but instead there is only the revived Mighty crusaders
But what makes you think that 'Your pal archie' will no longer be ongoing and what ever happened to Life with kevin?
But still if this type of process continues sales will be low and this will cause the company to decline or go into bankruptcy even though their first live action show Riverdale is mildly popular and the only hope is that they should sell the company to IDW or maybe DC comics itself since it's parent company Warner Bros produce the Riverdale TV show.

Terrence, always with the bankruptcy talk.  I agree the publishing side isn't doing that well mainly because they dropped the ball on the horror titles which were by far their sellers.

However, RIVERDALE is no longer "mildly popular".  Currently, at least, it's getting really popular thanks to Netflix and a new interest being taken by teenagers.
