  • Vegan Jughead: Ms. Grundy would have been a total surprise but it turned out she wasn't really Ms. Grundy so I can let that go.  Killing Moose after barely seeing him last year and Midge after she was in literally one episode (and barely in it, at that) seems ridiculous.

  • DeCarlo Rules: For a character franchise that's been running for 75+ years, ARCHIE really has a pretty small cast of regulars. Apart from the core 5 and the other 6 already mentioned, there's Cheryl & Jason and Kevin... and (filed under "extended supporting players") the teachers and parents. That's pretty much it. 14 teen characters and their parents & teachers. Sabrina and Josie and their supporting casts coexist in Riverdale, but they're really their own separate franchises. If your murder victims turn out to be Jinx Malloy and Cricket O'Dell, there's not much drama in it, beyond a shrug.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Why Moose and Midge? Good question... let me know if you can think of any other ongoing characters who are more expendable, but still well-known. I guess the other likely candidates would be Dilton and Ethel, or Chuck and Nancy. I guess you could come up with a short list of other names, but are they really that well-known? Ms. Grundy was a total surprise!

  • Tuxedo Mark: I recently watched Geek House's reaction to the episode. They're very amateur. They often leave in false starts and farting around before the actual intro. Joey often struggles with the episode title, like he can't just look it up before they start recording. Joey has to announce that he's putting the video into full screen and then does a countdown. Cut all of that stuff out! In the new review, he and his wife didn't react at all to Moose and Midge being killed. It soon became apparent that they didn't even know it was Moose and Midge! Joey referred to them as the "drug addicts".

Re-Introducing Myself/ Starting over
« on: December 02, 2016, 06:59:22 PM »
Hey Guys!
I don't know if anyone here remembers me, but I used to come on this site all the time. I haven't been on in a while, and now that I back, I guess the site started over or something... idk...

BUT I'M BACK  ;D

And I plan on being more active, last year I was busy with a lot of stuff, but this year I have much more free time.

And honestly I fear that we Archie fans are in a time where we have to stick together...

Anyways, since I am technically new, I would like to re-introduce myself...

My name is Gillian ____________ (hopefully you will see my last name in comic books in the future because..)
I want to be a cartoonist after I graduate
I'm in High School
My dream school is "The Joe Kubert school of cartoon and graphic art" (which is where Dan Parent, and Fernando Ruiz went..)
I am a HUGE Archie Comics fan (duh...) I've been reading them for 7 years now (I think) But I've been reading comics in general since I was 5 starting with Casper, Wendy, and various other Harvey comics.

And really, that's it it... if you want to know anything else ask away.

Hopefully I can be more active, and you will see a lot more of me!

-Gillian

Also, It took me a week to get used to this website the first time.. so I'm going to have to get used to it again... (sorry for any stupid questions I may have)

Since you are back . What are you reading? The new Archie reboot, Jughead , B & V & Reggie & Me. Which is your favorite?

Hi BettyReggie! Before our accounts got deleted, we were friends, so I'm glad to see a familiar face.

I've been reading almost all of the new Archie reboots, and I'm kinda glad you ask.

The New Archie reboot, is honestly starting out kinda slow. Its entertaining, but it is bothersome as a loyal fan to have to start over and both know what is going to happen, and not know at all. My favorite is issue #4 for sure, I respect the new art styles, but I do prefer the classic Archie look, but I like that they're trying new things.

Now for the new Jug-head reboot, I've been a little behind. Honestly because of the style of the first few issues. I strongly dislike it (Sorry Erica Henderson..), but I just got issue 9 and Derek Charms style is actually really good. It kinda fits in with the old style and silliness... not gonna lie, I really like it.

I only have Issue #1 of Betty of Veronica... And I originally hated it, I just went back to look at it now, and its not as bad as I thought it was. I don't really have much to say about it. Good Issue.

Josie and the Pussycats #1 and #2 are both amazing. I love the art style. I love that they are taking the time to explain how the band started (which is weird, because I complained about the Archie reboot starting over) Its all just great

Also, I love how in every comic they include classic stories, it makes me happy.

Reggie and me isn't out yet is it? I thought it came out on the 7th.. either way I'm excited.

Now for my 2 favorite things so far! (I really cant decide which I like more) Die Kitty Die (not Archie, but Parent and Ruiz... so I'm going to talk about it) and Archie meets the Ramones. I LOVE Die Kitty Die, even if it pokes fun at Archie Comics a little bit. Its a joy to any comic fan, I cannot praise it enough! And as a Ramones fan (Punk rock is my favorite music btw) I love Archie meets the Ramones. Gisele's art is beautiful and its such a fun story line. I kinda like it more than Archie meets KISS (my hardcover autograph edition might be influencing my decision though, its just so amazing.)

I'd love to know if you agree/disagree with my opinions

Surprisingly Archie Comics did send Reggie & Me #1out already. I have 4 of them. The rest are coming from Midtown Comics. Sandy Jarell makes Reggie look really handsome & tan. I just there would be more than 5 issues. I hope a lot of people buy it. Out of the all the reboots my least is Josie & The Pussycats. Maybe because I didn't really care for them before. I have only got the #1 & #2 so far.

In that case I have to get Reggie & Me ASAP

I honestly can't even rank the reboots at the point. I only have the first Betty and Veronica issue, and for Jughead I have the first few and the last few. If the issues in between are more like the latest issues, then the Jughead reboot might just be my favorite.

The old Josie and the Pussycats stories aren't my favorite, but I do really love them. But maybe that's because I like Dan Decarlo so much. They really have suffered with so much through the years.. I like the animated show.. but that live action movie... was just so bad! It has grown on me the more I have watched it (which isn't often..) but its just a poorly made movie.

OH YEAH! Those are the best Archie comics. Even if one of them isn't an Archie comic. Have you tried SUPER SUCKERS by Darin Henry and Jeff Schultz? Or any of Gisele and Dave Lumsden's Pixie Trix Comix?  (EERIE CUTIES, MAGICK CHICKS, DANGEROUSLY CHLOE, MA3)  In my opinion those are the type of comics ACP should be publishing. Also BETTY BOOP (Dynamite Entertainment) by Roger Langridge and Gisele is really good, too.

I can't get into most of the New Riverdale comics, but JUGHEAD is probably the one that comes closest to being readable, and also has the best artwork so far now that Derek Charm took over the penciling. I'm interested in seeing how Tom DeFalco writes REGGIE, though.

I thought the art would turn out to be my biggest problem with the New Riverdale comics, but it's the writing more than anything. This 'decompressed storytelling' style of nothing but multi-part stores isn't working for the Archie characters. Maybe they're fine if you sit down and read all 5 or 6 parts together, but it just doesn't work as single issues. On the other hand, I loved the classic Archie multi-part stories because even though it was part of a longer story, you could still get a satisfying read from each individual issue, so it was a shorter story-within-a-story. They need to take a lesson from those, and make each issue of the NR comics worth something as a story by itself. That's one of the biggest problems. The other biggest problem is that all the characters are too out-of-character compared to their former incarnations. Just for example, I really have no idea who the hell Veronica Lodge is. She might as well change her name to Superbitch.

Anyway, before I get too far off on a tangent... Welcome Back Gillibean!!

Good luck with your art, and you should definitely, definitely go to the Kubie School!  I thought about it when I was younger, but never made the commitment. I wish I had now, but it's too late for me.

Thanks for the comic suggestions, I'm totally going to look into them (especially Super Suckers, looks good)

I agree about the new reboots, they're just not as good. They don't feel like Archie comics. I respect the new art (They've changed it before with the "Archie's new look" series) But the difference between these, and the New Look series is the storytelling.

I really hate how they are changing the background stories of the characters, It just messes up everything that Archie has already established.
