  • DeCarlo Rules: Presumably with an ongoing B&V series, they'd want to keep it nominally in continuity with the ongoing ARCHIE title.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Oh, I hadn't noticed that the story is "Senior Year", so that explains it. It's a one-off story arc, just like "Freshman Year". They're not going to keep them as seniors permanently, or have them graduate and go on to college in an ongoing series.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Probably just a space-filler while they look for a better writer than Jaime Rotante. I hope.

  • DeCarlo Rules: It seems like they put extras on a disc because people expect them, or it helps drive sales, but more often than not, it seems like very little thought goes into the content. Of course there are some examples where the extras are exceptional, but usually that's not the case.

  • irishmoxie: I love digital movies and streaming. I usually get the Blu-ray Disc because I like to watch the extras the first time and then end up adding the digital code online or rip it and put it on the hard drive. Just much more convenient to stream it then search for the disc when I want to watch it.

  • DeCarlo Rules: On the other hand, maybe I should just bypass the Blu-Ray format altogether, buy a huge terabyte HD, and download everything. There's something to be said for that, in that you can get everything quicker and stacks of Blu-Ray cases aren't taking up space in your house, I guess.

  • DeCarlo Rules: This coming from a guy who still hasn't capitulated to the inevitable domination of Blu-Ray. It's getting to the point where I might have to relent, since I've seen some anime sets being released for the first time on Blu-Ray (no combo pak) with NO release of a DVD version.
    August 27, 2018, 03:09:15 pm
  • DeCarlo Rules: I'll never get used to people not being able to wait a few days when they order stuff online. I guess maybe I could understand it IF it were something that there was no other way to see, but I assume you've already seen the episodes.  People who are that impatient usually don't even buy disc sets, they just buy it digitally or stream it.

Anybody else excited about Betty & Veronica #1?
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:09:12 pm »
.Personally I'm really excited about having new stories about B & V. I think it will be awesome. When I saw Adam Hughes was behind it. I looked him up because I didn't know anything about him. He did a beautiful cover for Life With Archie & B & V #275. He draws women beautifully. Especially Betty Cooper. So tell me what you feel about upcoming Betty & Veronica.

I feel this book epitomizes everything that is wrong and self-destructive about the current Archie Comics.

I saw that B & V picture that you did on Facebook. You wrote who needs Adam Hughes? It was funny but I say lets give him a chance. Take the reboot of Jughead. Nobody there really cared for the art which was done by Erica Henderson. I really like her Jughead but I'm not huge Fan of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. The art in that comic is not my favorite.

I'm looking forward to it, but I actually wish it was a different artist.  I like a lot of the variant covers of B&V #1 better than Adam's art.

Also, he's writing and drawing it.  Evidently he hasn't been the writer on many of his comics.  I hope he doesn't make it too trashy.  He has a reputation for that apparently.

Finally, he also has a rep for being REALLY slow so I'm afraid there will be a lot of delays.

I'm just happy to see new issues . I just hope we get more adult themed stories.

I'm excited in the sense that I like new stories, especially those centered around Betty and Veronica, but to my understanding, they aren't exactly friends in the new Archie continuity, so I'm a bit clueless as to how this book is going to go because I haven't been following Archie related news.

I agree completely. The more new stories the better, and I have been wanting to see Archie branch out a little more in a grounded way. I love all the crazy stuff like Predator, Sharknado, Sabrina, and AWA, but of course that's all pretty out there. I've really enjoyed Mark Waid's Archie so far, so I hope the new B&V is like that. The thing I'm most looking forward to is learning about this new Veronica, she's still a bit of a mystery since we only really see her through others eyes except for a brief moment where she mostly talks about Archie.  ::)

I really want to see them out of High School. No prom stories, I'm tired of them.

I don't think you'll see them out of high school in this book since it replaces the regular Betty and Veronica series.

:2funny: There are a lot of prom stories, aren't there?

Anyway, the new Kevin is supposed to be him as a young adult, is that something you're interested in? I am, I love Dan Parent's work and I think he can deliver. His Archie Marries Valerie is one of my favorite arcs.

I want to see them out of high school too but I wasn't that crazy about Life With Archie.

Clearly LIFE WITH KEVIN isn't going to be in the same continuity as ARCHIE, and it's still debatable whether JUGHEAD is in the same continuity as ARCHIE, so why should B&V have to be? Not sure why that seems so important to people given that they can accept and enjoy titles as diverse as classic Archie, New Riverdale Archie, Life With Archie, and Afterlife With Archie -- each of which is clearly different from each other. Not sure why there seems to be this general feeling that all of the New Riverdale titles need to occupy the same space and time. I feel like that just hampers the creators in each trying to find their own audience for each particular title, which may not be exactly the same. Diversity just seems a better way to go to me, all things considered.

To answer the question, I'm not particularly excited about the new B&V book, just more curious than anything else. Still not sold on a semi-realistic take on B&V. It will be Adam Hughes' job to get me excited about it, I guess.

It's not such a bad idea. I wouldn't mind if they became college students or young 20-something besties. It would actually be cool if they left Archie out of the book, or if not totally out, then just not having them both competing over him. Just something to throw a little spin on it. It's a fresh start, so they should be flexible to experiment a little bit, as long as their personalities remain the same and they're still best friends & rivals.

As an example, the last classic B&V story arc, "Farewell, Betty & Veronica" was already a slight departure from the standard formula, while still nominally within 'classic Archie', so why not use the opportunity of a new #1 to mix a new wrinkle or two into the old standard. It's a fresh retake with a largely new audience, anyway.

I just wish they were done with High School. I want to know did they go to college? Are they still crazy about Archie, he's not the only fish in the sea. Maybe have Betty her old flame date Adam or Trey. Where did Adam disappear to? After the one story about Betty dumping Archie for Adam you never saw him again. I hope would they have more problems besides who Archie going bring to the dance. That's so played.

Yeah, apart from the main Archie title, which will probably always be that, they don't need to treat the other characters like spinoffs of the first series. Let them be the stars of their own books and do their own things (which doesn't mean Jughead, Archie and Reggie can't be in there somewhere, just that they don't need to be as prominent or have the same status quo as in the main ARCHIE title. There may be people who like the other titles that don't like the main Archie title, and vice-versa.

Whatever variations they make while experimenting a little don't need to be cast in stone as permanent, anyway. If it doesn't seem to be grabbing enough of the audience they need to get, they can always further tweak it a little this way or that, until they find the right mix that works.

On Adam Hughes Twitter page he has a border new picture of Betty & Veronica. They look great. I asked him if that what they will look like in comics. But he didn't answer me yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

Betty and Veronica stories are my favorites and the Adam Hughes art when it comes to drawing Betty and Veronica speaks for itself. I have been exclusively reading digests lately, but may just give this a little peek if I kind get my hands on it without having to purchase it online. We shall see.
