  • Fernando Ruiz: I don't know where the idea originated for the "Archie meets Archie" story. I know one day Victor Gorelick gave me the assignment to write a story where the current Archie meets the first appearance Archie. It was going to be for a digest celebrating whatever anniversary they were celebrating. That.

  • Mr.Lodge: The first batch of "Memory Lane" stories were the best but were never given the chance to "conclude" properly. The 10th Anniversary one are total crap.....

  • Tuxedo Mark: @Fernando Ruiz I never heard that before! Good to know! :)
    November 16, 2019, 06:08:57 pm
  • DeCarlo Rules: Nice to establish that. I forgot about that Twilight Zone episode! But of course, the phrase "a stroll down Memory Lane" is a familiar euphemism, so TZ took that as a literal plot device. The Memory Lane stories were the beginning of a fertile period for ACP, idea-wise.

  • Fernando Ruiz: Responding to the comments for the "When Archie Meets Archie" review, the idea for "Memory Lane" was mine. I borrowed it from an old Twilight Zone episode and thought it was a nice convenient device for the story.

Dan Parent is doing a new ongoing series in the classic Archie style...sort of.  It's a little updated, but this will be fantastic!  It will be written by Ty Templeton who I'm not familiar with.  Can't wait for this!

I wonder if it will be in July 2017 Solicitations? And I hope it's a comic not a digital one.

According to the article,  it will be published both in print and online.

So, if I understand this right, this new series is a "bridge" between the Classic Archie and the Newer Archie? Interesting approach. One thing that I think will challenge Mr. Parent is if he can keep both drawing styles separate without both blurring together. I'm trying to remember if this has ever happened in any comic company by any artist. I just wished they could do the same thing with the other Classic Archie artists, like Mr. Ruiz, Mr. Shultz, Ms. Legace, and Mr. Kennedy....

Tuxedo Mark

Huh. That's an interesting approach. I'll definitely buy it.

Mr.Lodge

Don't care for Dan Parent. Too pedestrian/generic for me.

More a fan of Goldberg, Ruiz, DeCarlo, Crane, Legace, Hartley, Montana.

Fernando Ruiz

It's definitely a step in the right direction. It's too bad its a half of a step. Once again, we see Archie Comics trying to have their cake and eat it too. What a way of sub-dividing their brand! How many different Archies are we going to have? Reboot Archie, Classic Archie, New Classic Archie... Which of these is going to be the face of the company?

With Dan busy on this book, and presumably subsequent follow-ups, I'm sure you'll see some of these others coming back to pick up the slack on digests here and there. Given the really poor treatment Archie Comics has shown me, I will not be among them.

Thanks, Mr. Lodge.

I happen to like what Dan is doing here, but I do wish the company would have the guts to let him just go full CLASSIC!

Thank you for responding. have you heard from Mr. Parent that this extra book will cut into his Die Kitty Die work?

Dan and I are pretty committed to Kitty. We've got lots of plans we're working on. So far, regardless of what else we've been doing, we've always made Kitty our top priority! It hasn't been easy but so far we've been managing it!

JonInIowaCity

I wonder if Kevin, Reggie, Moose, Pop, Weatherbee, etc. will look more like their "Riverdale" counterparts?

📚 📚 📚 I hope to see it in the July 2017 Solicitations 📚 📚 📚.

PTF

I like Templeton. I used to read Batman Adventures all the time when I was a kid. Heck, to me, the comics were better than the tv show.

Wow ! guess  old dog is doing new tricks after all and dan parents is trying out his new artwork on the new series. His original artwork  feels so plastic like what he did with his female characters but this one is new and improved and it's kind of okay. I guess change does work after all.

So i guess Dan is going to make a new series by  returning to the classic archie world in reboot style but with a lighter tone and aimed for all ages since the main series is going towards dark territory as one of the characters will be killed off in the over the edge storyline (possibly reggie)
