  • DeCarlo Rules: That's pretty much the whole point of having an internet -- it connects you to entertainment, information, and people who would otherwise be too far away from you physically, or would involve much greater effort on your part to connect with. And although there are some advantages for comic book collectors inherent in the direct-market dedicated comic book shop system, the major BIG (obvious) DISadvantage is that only a few thousand of those shops exist, compared to the huge number of retailers who used to carry comic books along with their other products back in the days of the "newsstand distribution system".

  • Tuxedo Mark: The only "local" comic shop within "reasonable" distance of my house is 18 miles away, in the next county. Yeah, no, I'll continue getting my comics digitally.

  • DeCarlo Rules: @Archiecomicxfan215 - FCBD comic books may be free to you, but the retailer has to PAY for those comic books he gives away for free. The publishers of the FCBD comics make no profit off them, and they're distributed to retailers by Diamond Comics for free, but they have to charge comic shop owners money for them, because paper and printing costs money. Your local comic shop owner loses a small amount of money with every FCBD comic book he gives away. Of course the whole idea behind FCBD is that sampling those free comic books will create interest in customers actually BUYing the retail versions of those FCBD comic books later on.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Don't forget to pick up the FCBD issue of DIE KITTY DIE: I Love You to Death! by Dan & Fernando from Chapterhouse Comics! Oh, and I guess if you care about that RIVERDALE thing, you could pick up the FCBD issue where Pop Tate eavesdrops on all the conversations of his teenage customers (makes him sound a little creepy, if you ask me...) Doesn't an adult business proprietor have more important things to worry about???

Achenar!  Set up a poll so we can see a ranking.  Allow voters to pick two(or three) from the list.  The cream will rise to the top.

My ranking has changed slightly from the thread in 2012.

1. Jughead
2. Betty
3. Veronica
4. Archie
5. Reggie

Over the past few years I'm finding I enjoy the Veronica character more and more and she's moved past Archie at this point.  As I've read more and more of Dan Parent's take on the character I've begun to view her differently.  She's still spoiled and self-indulgent, but Dan's given her a softer and more sensitive side and I find her more relatable.  I also find the Veronica of the last decade or so to be funnier .  I recently re-read two stories where she tries to start a new fashion fad, one where she's wearing cardboard boxes as a skirt or head covering, and the other where she's wearing a giant cowbell and the other Riverdale girls follow her lead.  I guess I appreciate Dan's sense of humor.

Jughead is still far and away my favorite, and Reggie never seems to have much to say or do when he does appear, so I don't see those two moving up or down on my list anytime soon.

As for the reboot Archie, I'm still trying to accept the new changes we've been presented with.  I don't find any of the five particulary compelling at this point.  Possibly after a few story arcs should the titles stick around for awhile.

Unquestionably. As drawn by Dan DeCarlo or Harry Lucey (to name the two most prominent among others), she always LOOKED attractive, but I think it fell to Dan Parent to give her a certain cuteness that is appealing -- if not precisely innocence, then at least a kind of vulnerability that makes her more endearing, counterpointed by the hijinks of "just Veronica being Veronica". That is as much due to Dan P's sculpting her character subtly as a writer as to the (to be honest, probably editorially-mandated) toning down of her 'Dragon Lady' sex appeal that the older generation of artists leaned heavily on (not that he isn't capable of amping that up when needed, like on certain covers). A true appreciation of Dan Parent's contributions to ACP does not hinge merely on his draftmanship alone, but that individual tone of quirky humor that he injects the stories with.
