Mine are a candy that I loved back in South Africa that they don't seem to have here in America called Fizzers. They have 3 flavours(Strawberry, Bluebuzz(Mixed Fruit), and Cream Soda) and they also fizz in your mouth. They are also chewy.

Kit Kat
In America I like these. Hershey Special Dark Chocolate Bar. They are not available in South Africa. The only Hershey's chocolate I have ever seen in my life in South Africa and it hasn't been many times were the Kisses, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Regular Hershey Bar.

M & M's & Resses Pieces
I also really love these. These can actually be found in South Africa, but not like here in America.

I love Haribo gummies! They are better than the rest. You can find them here in the States but usually only in specialty shops. Of course there's always amazon. I really like the soda flavored gummies by Haribo. It tastes a bit like Lemon Bitters.

I have never seen them here yet. I will have to look for them.
Hmmm, chewy AND fizzy? They look to be about the same texture as Tootsie Rolls - which are usually chocolate flavored, but not actually made with chocolate, although I know they've produced other flavors. I guess you'd call Tootsie Rolls basically taffy-like, it's the fizzy that throws me, because while we've had various kinds of fizzy candy products, none of them have been the least bit Tootsie Roll-like.

Various brands of gummy bears are pretty common over here. There are a lot of commonly available gummy candies, like Gummi Worms or Swedish Fish. In fact it's so common that they make gummy vitamins - for adults!
there's a company called Theo in Seattle that makes great chocolate but there are a lot of good ones. I'm vegan so I stick to dark chocolate and I especially love dark chocolate bars with quinoa or peanut butter mixed in.

Fizzers are like taffy but the fizz is actually quite weird. When you chew into the candy and bite a fizz area of the candy you will get a strong fizzy burst in your mouth. Other times you eat the candy you may miss those areas and won't get the fizzy sensation as much.

From your description, it sounds like they took a taffy-type candy and put Pop Rocks inside the taffy. Pop Rocks (which irishmoxie mentioned earlier) are just like the 'fizz areas' you describe, but it's just those, and they fizz and pop in your mouth. I don't know if they're easy to find in stores any more, but they used to be a lot more popular years ago. You can still buy them on Amazon. There are a lot of 'nostalgia candy' companies now that specialize in older candies that used to be popular, but you don't find commonly in stores any more, but they'll ship them to you by mail.
