Just received World of Archie Jumbo Comics #60 and they are featuring a reprint of part 1 of a 2 parter Man from Riverdale from the amazing Fernando Ruiz. Part 2 will be in World of Archie #61 coming in August!

Hmm... That was a four part series. I guess they're consolidating that into two REALLY big parts. Part 2 isn't out until August? Ugh!

I guess they're at the point where they're starting to put all of those twenty-page stories we did in the 32-page books about five years ago into the digests now. Those stories are going to eat up a lot of real estate in those books. I remember being told five years ago "The five page story is dead." I thought that was crazy! The five-page story is Archie's bread and butter! With these twenty-page stories you're looking at getting about five stories per issue!

I was wrong as I was assuming that it was a 2 part story but it is indeed a 4 part story. So the next three parts will be in the next three World of Archie Comics Digests #61, #62, #63

I actually don't mind the page count these stories take as their awesome multi part stories from the past. Usually they limit the 20 page stories like Man from Riverdale to one per digest as the rest are the regular smaller stories.

Fernando is an icon not only in Archie comics, but in comics in general. It is a damn shame that they showed him the door. I have the digest that is shown on the 1st post with the story and as usual Fernando did great work.

Wow, you're on here and you are thanking me. Wow, I am acting like an 11 year old. :) I should be thanking you more for the countless smiles and laughs you gave me during my youth.

My all-time favorite Ruiz cover:

I love the little nuances like the girls simply taking in the sun at the beach, with the subtle light and shadows on them. The two beauties radiate sexuality, in fact, it could easily rival a DeCarlo cover in this regard (no offense DR). Ronica differentiates from Betty as she listens to her music while Betty simply lies there, possibly listening to the sea and feeling the breeze. Both girls are content. Nothing needs to be said. Excellent work...

I don't know if DeCarlo ever drew the boobs that big. This cover was pushing the boundaries for ACP and a preview for what was to come with Die Kitty Die.

Yeah, my first though is DeCarlo always went first with impossibly tiny waists and alluring outfits and poses for the girls.
Comics!

I guess it's a matter of preference. DeCarlo played loose, too, given his past work before Archie. And Cheryl Blossom really pushed that boundary, lest we forget....

Me too.

I think I saw FR had a print made of that cover illustration to sell, and it doesn't surprise me that would be one of his most popular covers and prints. It seems to be pretty well-recognized among Archie fans.

So the sad day is finally here. Another reminder that everything I like has to go away. Well, except for The Simpsons.

And if I had to say Ruiz' best art it's either Man from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E. (Also my all-time favorite Archie story) or Cyrano Jones.

Fernando Ruiz - The Dan DeCarlo of his generation.

Gisele Lagace - The Kathleen Webb of hers.

I certainly did, DecarloRules.

Not only is it a popular print, but it also stops a lot of traffic at conventions!

By the way, everyone can check out my prints over at my website:

That's the place to go to find out about my latest projects and appearances. I will even talk about Archie still whenever it comes up over there.
