  • Vegan Jughead: Ms. Grundy would have been a total surprise but it turned out she wasn't really Ms. Grundy so I can let that go.  Killing Moose after barely seeing him last year and Midge after she was in literally one episode (and barely in it, at that) seems ridiculous.
    October 21, 2017, 08:31:51 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: For a character franchise that's been running for 75+ years, ARCHIE really has a pretty small cast of regulars. Apart from the core 5 and the other 6 already mentioned, there's Cheryl & Jason and Kevin... and (filed under "extended supporting players") the teachers and parents. That's pretty much it. 14 teen characters and their parents & teachers. Sabrina and Josie and their supporting casts coexist in Riverdale, but they're really their own separate franchises. If your murder victims turn out to be Jinx Malloy and Cricket O'Dell, there's not much drama in it, beyond a shrug.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Why Moose and Midge? Good question... let me know if you can think of any other ongoing characters who are more expendable, but still well-known. I guess the other likely candidates would be Dilton and Ethel, or Chuck and Nancy. I guess you could come up with a short list of other names, but are they really that well-known? Ms. Grundy was a total surprise!

    October 20, 2017, 12:36:49 PM
  • Tuxedo Mark: I recently watched Geek House's reaction to the episode. They're very amateur. They often leave in false starts and farting around before the actual intro. Joey often struggles with the episode title, like he can't just look it up before they start recording. Joey has to announce that he's putting the video into full screen and then does a countdown. Cut all of that stuff out! In the new review, he and his wife didn't react at all to Moose and Midge being killed. It soon became apparent that they didn't even know it was Moose and Midge! Joey referred to them as the "drug addicts".

I'm buying everything but the Sonic stuff.  That B&V variant by Allison Sohn (who is also the wife of Adam Hughes), is beautiful. Sad that it depicts Pop's going out of business, but I'm sure Betty will be able to rally the kids to save it.

I also LOVE the Afterlife cover by Francavilla, but then, Josie is my favorite female in the Archieverse.  I'm really partial to non-Pussycat Josie, but this is better than nothing.

Audrey Mok cover of Jughead is drop dead gorgeous too.

Whatever you think of the reboots (I'm personally fine with them), I think we're getting some great art from them.

I like The Afterlife With Archie #10 where Betty & Veronica are killing Cheerleaders in the locker room. It's great.
Archie #11, my man Thomas Pitilli does another beautiful cover which I get. He drew that beautiful commission of Reggie looking in the mirror but he reflection is one of sadness, Because he is the black sheep of the group, I gave Thomas the idea to draw that. And that was first time he ever drawed Reggie. Veronica Fish's cover is nice too.
Betty & Veronica #2 has 3 covers that I like. Kevin Wada & Allison Sohn & Adam Hughes which I will preorder. All 3 Jughead covers are great. But my most favorite is Veronica Fish. Betty & Veronica Comics Double Digest #246 is good too.

Excited for the battle of the bands issue. I wish there were more music themed comics. Besides Jem and the Holograms and Josie and the Pussycats, I wonder if there are any others.

Four digests solicited, with only one of them (Jughead and Archie #22) indicating the lead story is new. Not good.  >:(

I miss the classic Archie artists. But at least Derek Charm's an improvement and a move in the right direction. Don't care for Veronica Fish's work at all.

After reading the solicitation, it almost seems like reading the story when it actually comes out is a mere formality. Such suspense. Right around the sentence where they said "she never takes off that giant burger head", I started thinking "I bet it turns out to be Sabrina"... and I was right. At least I didn't have to wait 2 months for that satisfaction. OR maybe it would be more satisfying if they didn't just tell you the plot ahead of time.

That doesn't necessarily ruin a story.  I watched every episode of Colombo even though I knew he was gonna catch the murderer.  It was just a question of how.

So your argument here would be the actual reason to read the comic now is to see whether Sabrina (A) just put on a costume supplied to her by the burger restaurant, but never takes off the giant burger head, or (B) she actually used witchcraft to change herself into a hamburger with a giant burger head? Not comparable to knowing that in every story that Sabrina appears, she's going to use magic somehow, but it's just a question of how. That thing with the costume is a little too specific, like someone telling you some twist of the plot in an episode of Colombo before you ever watched it. I'd say the point here is that now when you actually read the story, the minute the Burger Lady appears, you already know beforehand that it's Sabrina in the costume. Not quite the same thing.

The only reason for me to read Jughead now is Sabrina.

More specifically, Sabrina as drawn by Derek Charm, as opposed to Sabrina as drawn by Erica Henderson. Erica has some talents, but they don't include drawing attractive looking people, female OR male. That's a real disadvantage for most comic books.

I wonder how Sabrina will be in Jughead #9, do the kids from RiverDale really know she's a witch? Or do think she just strange? I remember in old Jughead issue, I think it was #200. Jughead saw Sabrina at outside shopping at a food market & they didn't think the sold fruit. Creepy Stuff like bats etc. She was embarrassed but actually told him she was a witch. I don't think he really believed her.

I don't think they know.  This should be interesting!
