  • Fernando Ruiz: I don't know where the idea originated for the "Archie meets Archie" story. I know one day Victor Gorelick gave me the assignment to write a story where the current Archie meets the first appearance Archie. It was going to be for a digest celebrating whatever anniversary they were celebrating. That.

  • Mr.Lodge: The first batch of "Memory Lane" stories were the best but were never given the chance to "conclude" properly. The 10th Anniversary one are total crap.....

  • Tuxedo Mark: @Fernando Ruiz I never heard that before! Good to know! :)
    November 16, 2019, 06:08:57 pm
  • DeCarlo Rules: Nice to establish that. I forgot about that Twilight Zone episode! But of course, the phrase "a stroll down Memory Lane" is a familiar euphemism, so TZ took that as a literal plot device. The Memory Lane stories were the beginning of a fertile period for ACP, idea-wise.

  • Fernando Ruiz: Responding to the comments for the "When Archie Meets Archie" review, the idea for "Memory Lane" was mine. I borrowed it from an old Twilight Zone episode and thought it was a nice convenient device for the story.

Josie and the Pussycats (cartoon)

What's everyone's thoughts on the old Josie cartoon series?

Personally, I kinda like it (more than the Filmation cartoons, anyway). It's cheesy, dorky fun. It's not so much "Josie and the Pussycats" as it is "Josie and Friends Play Scooby-Doo". I'd much rather watch this than Scooby, though.

Here's a video of a "Musical Evolution" of the band that Cartoon Network did (it also happens to be one of the oldest videos on YouTube!):

The first cartoon  (versus the outer space one, which was deplorable to me) is great. Too bad Hanna  Barbarra didn't make more original ones. It started the musical bands solving mysteries cartoons that  H-B copied over and over afterwards...

DeCarlo Rules

Apart from the "chase" sequence in each episode, which is really just an excuse to showcase the songs without having to stop the action for the band to perform in front of an audience, it really wasn't all that much like Scooby-Doo. They really weren't solving mysteries for the most part, and the situations they got into while traveling around the world were a lot closer to those in Jonny Quest (but obviously played for comedy, and nowhere near as violent), except that there were more master spies, mad scientists, and supervillain types. Aside from that, they reused some of the background music cues from Scooby, and both had a cowardly main character voiced by Casey Kasem.

In the second episode, there's a good joke about it, when Alexandra disguises herself by covering herself with plant leaves, and some of the other kids mistake her for a plant monster that's chasing them and they all start punching her. Alexandra shouts "Hey, stop! Cut it out! It's ME!!" and when they pull off her disguise, they all exclaim "ALEXANDRA!?!" and she says "Who were you expecting -- SCOOBY-DOO?"

Captain Jetpack

I liked both series, and I wish they publish the soundtrack, again.
Old version was a limited release, & costs like Hell.

With brown hair and a green shirt.

And Don Messick (Scooby Doo) voiced Sebastian.

And the blond leader guy wore an ascot.

And I could make a list of hundreds of such similarities between various Hanna-Barbera cartoons, so on average, J&TPC wasn't any different. H-B constantly remixed character traits, voices, music cues, etc. from one season to the next.

I was just looking at the closing credits, and I noticed Janet Waldo isn't credited, but a "Judy Waite" is. Is this a pseudonym?
