All About Archie / Re: Derek Charm

He draws cute art. I'm gonna start picking up Jughead again.

And to answer your question why he wasn't hired in the first place: nepotism.

I reread Archie vs Predator to see whether I'd like it any better the second time, reading the whole thing together. I didn't.

Mr. Lodge has a bunker beneath the mansion that he built "after that Russian arms deal went sour"? (Because, c'mon... we all know that's how he got so rich, by selling weapons to the Russians, right?) With some kind of sci-fi machine that turns an almost-dead Archie into Arnold Shwarzenegger on crack? And it can also turn the Predator into Archie? Because even though he spent the entire story picking them off one by one, he's repented his evil ways at the end and is a good guy now? WTF? That's the kind of writing that turns the phrase "comic book writing" into a venomous slur to sling at any hack writer. Utter tripe.

I've tried reading this several times and can never get past the first issue. The writing is just bad.
Like it or hate it, it's one for the "Crazy Betty" thread in the end ...

I'm not even sure I'm clear on what Alex DeCampi was trying to imply with that ending -- that somehow the Predator killed everyone else because he's smitten with Betty and just wants to get her away from everyone else, or protect her from those he sees as a threat to her... Cheryl and Jason, Veronica, Archie? Because she's so pretty and nice, and even an extraterrestrial hunter could see that? NOTHING about the story makes the least bit of sense, and then DeCampi is just casually tossing stuff in there like implying that you don't get to be a teenage witch without making a few sacrifices -- of the human type (enough to fill a mass grave, which just disappears along with her house into the netherworld, after she's killed) -- at least, as best as I can make things out there.

Now you got me curious. I'll have to read this. I usually love beach/tropical stories.

I have been reading Sunstone & Jem & The Holograms & Lumberjanes . I have a few Unbeatable Squirrel Girl & Black Canary & Deadly Class issues. I gave up on Harley Quinn & Zodaic Starforce Those 2 weren't good anymore. I have 3 issues of New Romancer. I don't have the issues but I really like Giant Days. I only have 1 issue of Paper Girls but the graphic novel is one the wait list at the library for me. It's cool that one of girls is named Erin that's my real name. I'm really looking foward to getting Nameless City from the Library, it's on my wait list. It's from Faith Erin Hicks.

Going to read nameless city soon. Read a preview of it I really liked.

Strawberry Shortcake #1, Puss in Boots #1, Camp Midnight (preview) - had high hopes for all these and sadly disappointed. The art in Puss is nothing like the cover. The writing on these just isn't funny enough. I wish more comic writers could write comedy as well as in Die Kitty Die and Supersuckers. I like all ages but these were just too juvenile for me. I think older comics pre 1980 even though labeled for kids can also be enjoyed as adults. I think the new all ages comics they are pumping out are mostly for kids now.

Really liking Jonesy, Jem and the Holograms, Lumberjanes, Princeless (even though the Make Yourself series isn't great), Harrow County  :smitten:, Rachel Rising. I'm really getting into horror comics (I guess they are more mystery) which surprises me because I don't like horror movies or gritty things at all.

Also really liked the EMET comics for women such as Finding Molly and The Wendy Project. I just wish they came out more often.

Black Magick. Paper Girls. Plutona. A lot of these are on hiatus right now which saves my wallet.

Bee and Puppycat. Grumpy Cat. Chi's Sweet Home  :smitten: Hero Cats (occasioonally) and Action Lab Dog of Wonder

Die Kitty Die. Super Suckers.

Fresh Romance another women's comic. I love the historical romance story in this one called Ruined. Very Jane Austen.

Lots of manga that people here are probably not interested in. Some manga from the Web Toon app.

I tried to only mention my favs that I have to read as soon as I get them.

Patsy Walker Hellcat #5 - I think I'll be dropping this series. I liked the first 3 issues but the last two have been too superhero-y for me and skewed away from the girlie stuff.

Pink Panther Classic #1 - A type of comic that is sadly lacking in the marketplace today. A nice alternative to Archie and Disney. The humor reminds me of Looney Tunes. I'll probably read this when I have nothing else to read.

Rachel Rising #4 and 5 - very spooky. Loving it so far. Reminds me a lot of

We Can Never Go Home 1-5 - really strange story. It's supposed to return this year but I don't think I'll be continuing.

Where do you get all these from? The digital app?

I liked the cover of this one too.

I'm planning to read these 12 comics so I hang them on my wall.
Jem & The Holograms-Outrageous Annual
Jem & The Holograms #4 & & #9 & #10 & #13 & #14
And I also want to read Lumberjanes
Lumberjanes #3 & #9 & #11 & #12 & #13 & #14

Trying to find the time to reread lumberjanes from the beginning. I hope there are some Easter eggs or foreshadowing to the mysteries of the forest.

General Comics / Die Kitty Die #3

Another great issue. I enjoyed all the Fernando Ruiz cameos saying the things he's said on this board and I believe I spotted Victor Gorelick as well. The upcoming ex-husbands issues I think will be really funny.

Sounds like Dan and Fernando are going to be doing variant covers for other Chapterhouse series. It's always interesting to see other characters in their style.

Fan Fiction / Re: Fan Art Thread

I like that one with Dilton inspired by the Powerpuff girls and the last one featuring The Archies. The one with The Pussycats walking through the fall leaves is beautiful.

I read each of these for 12 minutes
Bart Simpson-Master Of Disaster
Phonogram-The Single Club
Giant Days-Volume #2

How'd you enjoy Giant Days? I read that one occasionally. It's one of the few girlie comics. It's even about people in college instead of high school.

I signed up for this site about 1 1/2 years ago. Used to lurk a lot, there were a lot of great old threads to read. I forgot about my account after a short while due to being busy with my new job.

I came back about 2 weeks before all the data was deleted and posted a few times. There was a certain ignorant poster who seemed to infiltrate every innocent post and seemed to want to argue about everything. Made me reluctant to post or share an actual opinion and I'm probably not the only one who felt that way. Luckily that particular person no longer posts here. News of the Riverdale show resparked my interest in this forum, but I'm still surprised at the negativity regarding the show but it's alright.

Anyway, the data deletion itself was sort of a punch in the gut. Now those old threads I liked lurking are gone and it's hard to stay interested in "what did you buy today?" sort of clunky topics and clunky gigantic signatures. I feel like there's a large gap between what ultra-fans and casual-fans want to talk about, if that makes any sense. I agree forums are old news: pretty much every forum I go to is dead except for the imdb.com main forums. However I think a forum like this dedicated only to Archie is unique and I wish this forum could become active again. I wasn't and haven't been here long but I feel like I missed the glory days of this place.

There seems to be 2 types of posters on this forum. Those obsessed with classic Archie and that's the only comic they read and those that read lots of comics and Archie just happens to be one of them. I actually quite enjoy the "What comics are you reading thread?". I get a lot of recommendations from there.
